We were married in the courtyard of the Cypress Inn 34 years ago and we love coming back for memories and just to have a good relaxing time. We also love the ability to bring our pets.

Our experience was fairly nice until the day we checked out. I inadvertently left an expensive piece of clothing in the closet. A woman from the front desk called me to tell me it would be sent to me at my home address. It has been over a month and it has apparently disappeared. There is no information and no one from the hotel seems too interested. Very disappointing, I would expect better.

This place has turned into a worn out frat house. If you don’t mind being woken up by drunks coming in at all hours, be my guest. Most clientele are low life now. What was once a place of elegance is gone. Very sad. Doris Day is rolling in her grave.

Wow what an elegant sophisticated hotel. We booked this as I am a fan of the late Doris Day and we are so pleased we did as it didn’t disappoint. The hotel was in the perfect location for shops and restaurants, our room was lovely spotlessly clean with a lovely fireplace and some desert wine a lovely touch! Staff were very accommodating with our luggage and allowed us to pick up later after checkout. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in this beautiful hotel we highly recommend if you are planning a stay in Carmel. 🥰

We just returned from a 3 night stay. In response to the the review just below mine, in which it stated that the rooms do not "provide an ambience reflective of common areas", I whole-heartedly disagree. It just depends on your chosen room type. We happened to be staying in a standard two-queen room on the second floor, in the original 1929 built section of the building. Our extended family was staying in a larger King Suite room, presumably in a newer section of the building. (I didn't ask the bellman for details, but when he helped us with our luggage, he referenced that our room was in the "original section"...implying that there was a newer section). All I can say is, what a difference in rooms. Our room, while nice, was very small. And yes, I'll agree with the review below mine, the bathroom was extremely small. While I did not take measurements like they did, I did give the shower my "chicken wing" test. While standing in the shower, lifting my bent-arms up in a chicken wing style, my elbows hit side-to-side on the shower walls, before they were even up 90 degrees. TIGHT space. No fridge. And finally, in our room, no A/C. Our extended family's King Suite was the exact opposite.....vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, very roomy, separate sitting area, large bathroom, A/C, and a fridge. So all of this to say, some rooms DID provide the ambience of the common areas. Just not the more-affordable queen rooms. Location of the hotel is great. Total vibe of the hotel is fantastic. Especially if you like dogs. If you are not a dog owner, or at least a dog-lover, you may want to pass. One negative of the hotel that I must mention: there are no dedicated parking spaces or a dedicated hotel parking lot. There IS a small gated lot approximately one block away that has about 12 parking spaces in it dedicated to the hotel's guests. But getting a "clicker" to be able to use this space is like winning the lottery. You have to ask for it early, be placed on a waiting list, and then cross your fingers that you are a chosen one. There's simply more guests than parking spots available.....this made for a less than ideal experience. I'm sure I have a parking ticket or two coming my way any day now. But aside from the parking situation, our overall stay was great. Two-thumbs up for the Cypress Inn.
