About the Hotel

Backpackers trekking through the jungle highlands of Belize a few years ago occasionally stumbled onto a rustic place called Blancaneaux Lodge - then a row of thatched huts above an idyllic valley, where waterfalls drop into granite pools lined with tiger ferns while parrots roost in the palmettos. Francis Ford Coppola himself stumbled upon this same enchanted retreat in the Mountain Pine Ridge reserve in 1981. "I'd been looking for some kind of tropical utopia," Coppola says. "This was the paradise hideaway I was looking for." The rest is history... Welcome to Blancaneaux Lodge.

Reviews for Blancaneaux Lodge

Blancaneaux Lodge is the perfect hideaway...

We have just returned form 4 nights in Blancaneaux after a 7 week South and Central America trip and we stayed in 18 different hotels - three of them part of the Coppola chain - and Blancaneaux is by far the best out of the three. We had a hard time getting there due to protests at the border and arrived very late but the staff were all out in the dark with cold towels and drinks to meet us, including Bernie the GM. They were so welcoming and could not do enough to help us. The luggage was taken straight to the room and was there by the time we reached it. We had THE nicest villa - Room 12 - at the very end of the path in the trees and with its own plunge pool. Breakfast was delivered every day bang on time and it was so lovely to sit outside amongst the birds and trees by the pool to eat breakfast before we went out. There are lots of things to do here and we took full advantage of the location. We visited Barton Creek Cave with George's Adventure Tours and he was fab at guiding us into the caves in his canoe. We did the ATM caves which is a good day trip and Blancaneaux packed us a really beautiful lunch with fresh fruit, salsa and chips, fab tuna and chicken salad wraps plus their own granola bars for energy and water etc. We did sunset horse riding through the pine forest and rainforest as there are stables on the premises with 22 horses for all ages and abilities. Mark took us on a beautiful jungle hike of 14.5kms to the waterfalls and he carried yet another lovely lunch packed by the lodge to incentivise us to reach the waterfall as it was hot, steep and quite challenging at times. The waiting staff in the restaurant knew our names on the first sitting and greeted us accordingly every tine we saw them which goes a long way in my book as it was full at the time we visited and they always knew us which is great hospitality. So friendly, professional, food was very good and the FCC wines are varied too. Bernie was always about checking up that everyone and everything was OK which I like as there's nothing worse than an absent Manager who does not know how his ship is running. On our last night they had prepared a private table out by the fire pit with flowers and depurations with the fire on for us to enjoy the menu.. a really lovely touch. A generally wonderful experience and a great few days to relax by the pool or tube down the river with lots to keep you busy if you prefer. Thanks to everyone in the team at Blancaneaux lodge, it really was fantastic.

Highly recommend for families with teens!

We had a fabulous visit to Blancaneaux Lodge this month. Our family of 2 parents and 2 teens enjoyed the beautiful villa complete with a lovely hammock in our personal outdoor/indoor space. The food was delicious especially the meal and tour of the organic garden and the traditional belizian dinner. We loved the short hike to the tubing on the river in front of the hotel. The day trips to Caracol Mayan ruins and the river pools and the 7 mile cave kayaking were fantastic.

Heaven in the pine forest

What a magical place full of stunning beauty, amazing people, great food, and fun adventures. Everything about the lodge is done with thoughtfulness. The individuals that help you during your stay and kind, knowledgeable and personable. The buildings are so beautiful, we could not stop commenting about how the lighting and decor made us all instantly relax and feel like we were on a magical vacation. The attention to be environmentally sensitive was so refreshing (no plastic, hydroelectric power, limited light pollution). The experiences were so perfectly curated, from the organic garden tour to riding horses through the forest. We were a family of seven ranging from young adults to parents of a certain age, we all want to go back to Blancaneaux as soon as possible. Thank you Jairo, Minor and Rendel (and everyone else) for taking wonderful care of us.

Wonderful getaway in a magical location

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

This property exceeded our expectations. The grounds were beautifully designed with great thought given to every little detail (including the many votive candles that lit the lodge and our rooms at night). This was truly one of the most beautiful places we have vacationed. But the absolute highlight of our trip was the service. It was exceptional. The staff were friendly, hard working, and incredibly thoughtful. We rarely visit a place twice, but given the service, and beauty of property, we are really tempted to try another one of their locations in Belize.

We stayed at the Turtle Inn and Blancaneaux Lodge for a week in October, and it was the best vacation we have ever taken. The cabanas and cottages were lovely, the staff was incredible, and the food was outstanding. It's rare that you come home from vacation without a single negative thing to say - our only criticism is that we couldn't stay longer! It was truly an amazing experience.
