About the Hotel

Dating back to 1682, the Steenberg Hotel is an exquisite historic wine farm set in the foothills of South Africa's magnificent Constantia Valley. Although just 20 minutes from the center of Cape Town, this serene set of buildings - declared an official National Monument - is its own seductive world, surrounded by vineyards and an 18-hole championship golf course. The buildings have been lovingly restored and decorated traditionally with antiques in elegant 17th-century style. In your delightful guest room or suite, you will discover a wealth of treats, which may include a romantic patio with views of the vines and fairways.

The hotel is not as described and we were given a view of a wall and hedge - not the wonderful views of mountains promised. Plenty of noise and activity around the room as we were next to the staff/canteen and recreation area. The pool advertised on their website is only for certain guests. Most people staying there can only use the Spa pool, when it’s not full of the public using the Spa. When we went there were no sunbeds and spa guests were eating chips in the pool. Another couple we spoke to could not believe that on a scorchingly hot day - they could not use the beautiful pool that was pictured when booking. Pollsmore Prison is nearby - which may account for the delays getting in to the property, due to the strict security. Outside the hotels there are warning signs, not to cycle alone.

It was with incredulity that we were allocated a room, next to the workers rest facilities/restaurant, and with a view of a wall and hedge. The manager was very apologetic and explained that the Mountain View room we booked had not been kept for us, but he would ensure we were moved to the correct room today. Disappointingly, this room does not have “ tranquil werf on their entrance doorstep and private terraces with spectacular unimpeded views of the mountains across the vines or meandering greens” This is misrepresentation, as are the misleading photographs of a spectacular pool that it transpires - is not available to guests staying in our rooms. We are only allowed access to the small pool at the Spa. This is not exclusive as this is for the use of anyone using the Spa. Yesterday, there were no seats left when we looked in. It is unconscionable that you continue to deliberately mislead potential guests. What you do offer is interrupted views of Pollsmore Prison - not mentioned anywhere on your website, or Tripadvisor.

Perfection

An incredible hotel. Excellent staff, perfect rooms and the most amazing 2 restaurants. The food in both the Tryn restaurant and the Bistro is first class. Chef Kerry has designed fabulous menus and runs a brilliant kitchen and front of house. Coupled with the wine from the vineyard this is the perfect place to stay and eat Golf at the onsite course is also excellent

Delightful hotel set in Vineyards

What a glorious place! This was my second stay! Set in vineyards with beautiful gardens and mountain views, Steenberg Hotel is a delight! My room was large with it's own private outside area, a huge bed, lounge area and stunning bathroom (with bath and shower). It felt luxurious and comfortable. The pool is small and heated which was perfect for early December. I also took the opportunity to use one of the mountain bikes to explore the estate. There is a good selection for breakfast which one can have in the room, or in the restaurant Trynn. My only niggle was that the in room dining menu was small and quite disappointing especially if one doesn't eat meat. The spa is super and there is a wide range of treatments. I will be back!

Lovely family stay

Beautiful property and staff who made our stay wonderful over four nights. The setting is beautiful, the staff are wonderful and the pool is the warmest I’ve ever been in - which our seven year old daughter wouldn’t leave! The premier room was perfect and large to include our daughter and whenever we needed anything, staff were friendly and responsive to help. Trynn is lovely and the a la carte breakfast was a welcome change from breakfast buffets too. Small details could change - the pool area offers a very formal fine dining lunch menu rather than snacks (we had to ask repeatedly before someone agreed we could have a sandwich rather than a veal escalope for example!) and the pool area was often not staffed or had staff who don’t offer you a drink or get you a sub bed unless you ask. But these are minor details and didn’t detract from our stay at all.

The Steenberg is absolutely beautiful and the staff couldn't have been more gracious, friendly and professional. The food at Cathrina's restaurant was beautifully prepared and the service was exceptional. The property offers lots to do but the staff also gave us the option do using their transportation to visit other wine properties in the area as well as other fine restaurants. Though only 30 minutes from the heart of Cape Town you are truly in the country and away from it all. My wife and I would go back and stay for a week in a heart beat and it is a must on the next visit to South Africa.” L. The restaurant at the hotel is excellent and is a great place to celebrate - the high quality of the Steenberg wine helps!

We stayed in the hotel for 5 days. Playing 18 holes on the Steenberg golf course is an experience I'll never miss. So we decided already to go again!

We stayed at the Steenberg Hotel in September. We would very highly recommend Catharina's, the restaurant attached to the hotel. We couldn't find fault the food and service here - wonderful.

Steenberg was recommended to us by a friend. South Africa is wonderful and a stay at Steenberg makes it complete.
