About the Hotel

Glorietta Bay Inn is a century-old mansion originally built by sugar magnet John D. Spreckels in 1908. Its envious location, overlooking the bay on lovely Coronado island across the harbor from downtown San Diego, is just one block from the beach and steps away from a fleet of upscale shops and restaurants that line charming Orange Avenue. The rooms, housed in both the original mansion and a more modern annex, are all newly-remodeled with varying appointments. Those who slumber beneath the storied roofs enjoy extra plush bedding and fabulous views, plus turndown service with milk and cookies left bedside for late-night noshing. All guests are privy to an expanded continental breakfast and afternoon refreshments. The inn also has a refreshing swimming pool for anyone wanting to take a plunge.

Enjoy many of the amenities of the Del at a lower rate

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We have stayed at the Del numerous times and the newer sections there are amazing. But we tried this hotel across the street and it had a similar era feel but at a lower cost. You are steps from the Del and can still enjoy the restaurants and walking through the neighboring hotel and beach but at nearly half the cost. Don’t get me wrong. The Del is entrenched with so much history and is well worth the stay. But if you are okay with just wanting to experience the area - lots of good restaurants (especially Swaddee Thai restaurant) along Orange Avenue, blocks from the beach, awesome ice cream at Moo time, bike riding around the island, and the small town feel - this place is ideally located, offers decent amenities, has a friendly staff, and sometimes has great deals on Travelzoo. We really enjoyed our stay in Room 108.

Spectacular hotel

The Glorietta Bay is a beautiful hotel with a great location, directly opposite the famous Hotel Del Coronado and minutes from the beach and downtown Coronado. The staff were all very helpful and the complimentary breakfast is an extra bonus, lots of variety and very tasty! We highly recommend this hotel.

Great place to stay in Coronado!

Glorietta Bay Inn is a great place to stay in Coronado. The service is excellent & the location can’t be beat. It’s easy to walk to the Del, the beach, & shops. This was my daughter & I’s first trip to Coronado and I would definitely stay here again.

Two and a half stars - time to renovate

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

The hotel description uses the word “charming” - that’s code for old. At one point in time, this hotel was probably indeed very charming in the true sense of the word. That time, however, has long passed. By decades. This place is in dire need of a renovation - everything is old and dated. The furniture, carpet, bathroom, all of it is showing wear and tear. Even though it isn’t dirty, it has the feel of being unclean by virtue of worn down sheets, chipped paint, old furnishings etc. Its location is the biggest selling point, it is across the street from the Del and a 5 minute walk to the beach. All the shops and restaurants on Orange Ave are also very close. Right next door, a former motel has been renovated into a boutique hotel and the contrast between the two is stark. If the owners have the funds to renovate, this could be a wonderful alternative to the Del. The average age of guest during my stay seemed to be 65 (I felt so young!). I suppose if that’s the demo they’re going after, then no need to change a thing.

Best stay here in the Coronado island

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We are planning a wedding for my daughters' wedding at the Hotel Del Coronado in April and needed a hotel to hold 75 to 100 people and this is the place. We stayed here this past weekend for some planning and meetings. The GBI was great for our entire stay at their hotel. From Jordan, to the housekeeping staff, to the front desk staff they are all a delight. Rooms were very very clean and the grounds were immaculate. I really have nothing bad to say. Best stay we've had in some time. Every time we're on Coronado Island we will be staying here at GBI

We stayed at Glorietta Bay in the Sugar Baron Suite. The overall experience was outstanding with service world-class. We would definitely stay at the Glorietta Inn again.
