Easy elegance in the heart of Cortina d'Ampezzo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We had a wonderful stay at this fine hotel. The vibe is my style - stylish and elegant without too much formality or fussiness. Our rooms were beautiful with very comfortable beds and excellent amenities. The indoor pool and spa were lovely and the breakfast was terrific. The most outstanding part of our stay, however, was the excellent service from all the staff. Every step of the way they were there to help but not interfere. The only thing to be aware of, however, is that the hotel does not have air conditioning (or at least that is what I think they told us). I don't like air conditioning anyway, so we left our window open (no screens) to cool things down and my husband ended up getting quite a few mosquito bites. Windows open also meant we got a fair amount of car noise from the surrounding streets. Overall we loved it and would definitely stay there if we ever return to Cortina.

Beautiful overpriced hotel without airco

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The good stuff: A stylish renovated hotel in Cortina. The rooms and hotel look absolutely stunning. The spa is very nice and has all you need to relax after a long day hiking. There is plenty of staff who all do their best to give great service and make your stay as comfortable as possible. The breakfast buffet is very extensive and super nice. There is a nice bar and restaurant (but very expensive). Now the bad stuff: This is the most expensive hotel in this town. We spend more than 500 euro's per night to find out that the rooms had NO airconditioning. You would expect a hotel rated as 5 stars and for these prices have airconditioning (even though the booking websites don't claim they have, but who reads these details for hotels with these ratings and prices). The room was very hot in the evening and night and we really slept awful because of this. If you stay here in the winter, no problem, but in the summer we feel this hotel is way overpriced because of this. We had to remove the cover of the bed and had to sleep with the doors open, but outside it is noisy early morning. They do offer a fan when you complain but that only brings in more noise and doesn't really help anyway. We also would expect the spa would be open later than only 20:00. The staff do their best to give great service but are sometimes a bit too pushy.

Rude Restaurant and Bar Staff

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Hotel was amazing…BUT, the restaurant and bar were horrific. Tried to charge me 35 EUR for sitting with my wife at breakfast . The manager tried to explain to me that they had to charge me because they had limited seating (the restaurant was at about 10% capacity, and whether I was there or not, she still would need a table). Then in the evenings they wouldn’t wait on our family at the outside patio bar. Two nights in a row. The same manager was there from the morning. The disdain they had for us was palpable. But we don’t know why. We are all well traveled, speak a decent amount of Italian and are polite to everyone. I would not go back and would not recommend this establishment, as wonderful as the hotel was, because of the rudeness of the restaurant and bar staff.

Was I the Prostitute in the Bar?

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I stayed for three(3) wonderful weeks at Grand Hotel Savoia, Cortina. Every day I enjoyed delicious meals and drinks at Restaurant Savoy/Terrace Bar and Breakfast Buffet, capably overseen by Barbara and both Antonio's. However I didn't once see any Prostitutes as per a ridiculous review, unless I was again taken for one?🤔See P.S. Because of this suspect review, either fake or written by a very confused person, I felt I should reassure Trip Advisor readers that this well-located hotel in such a beautiful, heritage listed area is a great place to stay. Customer Service is exceptional throughout also reflecting the high standards of General Manager, Rosanna Conti, Concierges are most helpful regarding advice/suggestions for sightseeing and activities, while Housekeeping ensures the rooms are very clean and tidy. In fact all the Staff are so obliging and friendly, keen to make your stay as good as possible. P.S. When I was a young, short-skirted, make-up free, suntanned blond traveller in Italy and staying in Youth Hostels, a very kind Tour Guide warned me that I could be taken for a Scandinavian who had come to Italy for the Summer to make money! Fast forward many decades to the Era of the Keyboard Warrior🙄……..but you can rest easy knowing there is a lot to love about staying at this hotel.

Lovely stay at The Grand Hotel Savoia Cortina D'Ampezzo

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Our stay at the Grand Hotel Savoia Cortina d'Ampezzo was very pleasant and memorable. The concierge, Diana Kirtadze, gave us good guidance for the hikes we wanted to do. The kitchen staff packed us a nice breakfast box and had it ready and waiting for us at the front desk super early for our hike that morning. The breakfast buffet was extensive; had everything one could ever want for breakfast - all kinds of fresh fruits and juices, breads, eggs, pastries, cold cuts, cereal, yogurt, cheeses, teas, coffees, warm porridge and egg preparations made to order .... the food was freshly made, delicious, and beautifully displayed. I wish they had more vegetarian choices for dinner. We received impeccable service from Giovanni Rizzo and his team, at breakfast and dinner, during our stay. They were polite, friendly and struck a perfect balance between being attentive without being intrusive. The turndown service at this property was rather nice too. The housekeeping staff served us with a smile; they got us a portable fan on a warm night, and gave us several extra bottles of drinking water (choice of still or sparkling) when we asked for them. We had a lovely stay at this property - their balsamic vinegar, olive oil (Vibianini) and tiramisu were the best yet!
