About the Hotel

Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.

Luxury meets History

I took my son to Peru for his graduation present. We chose this historic property for our stay and it was a highlight of our trip. The property has retained the hisoric charm of the monastery while providing the creature comforts required for the luxury traveler. The team knew us by name, always greeted us, and went out of their way to see if we needed anything. We LOVED the opera night and the cooking classes offered by the hotel. The breakfast buffet and juice bar were delicious, and offered a wonderful variety. Lastly, the attention to detail was appreciated. From the thoughtful welcome letter, the memento of Cusco we were given upon checkout, the beautiful holiday decorations, complimentary coffee bar,

One of the most amazing hotel stays we've experienced

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Monestario. Above everything else, I want to stress that the staff who work at this hotel are the most attentive, caring and professional that we have experienced on our travels around the globe. The location is perfectly close to all important areas of Cusco. Staying here is an absolute no-brainer.

A Magical Stay at Belmond Monasterio

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Belmond Monasterio offers a perfect blend of history, luxury, and impeccable service. The beautifully restored monastery boasts serene courtyards and elegant rooms, with the option for oxygen-enriched accommodations—a lifesaver at high altitude. The staff’s hospitality is unmatched, and the dining experience is superb, especially the courtyard breakfast and the Peruvian cuisine at the restaurant. Its prime location, just steps from Cusco’s top attractions, makes it ideal for exploring. A truly unforgettable experience—highly recommended!

Hotel Monasterio in Cusco is truly world-class. Cusco is about 11,000 feet in altitude, but they offer oxygen supplement in rooms. Everything is superb. The manager invited us to a special cocktail party on one night, very gracious.

My daughter and I enjoyed our trip to Peru immensely. We stayed at the Hotel Monasterio in Cusco and found it to be superb. We had a magnificent suite, the staff was perfect and the chef sent us a wonderful surprise birthday cake to our room.

We visited Peru and the entire trip was spectacular. Orient-Express hotels provided exceptional service and world-class accommodations. We stayed at the Miraflores Park Hotel, Hotel Monasterio, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. All three hotels had beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurants, and a helpful friendly English-speaking staff. From now on, Orient-Express will be at the top of my list for worldwide travel.
