About the Hotel

Voted the Best Hotel in South America by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, Belmond Hotel Monasterio deserves every accolade that comes its way. Built in the 16th century as a monastery on Inca foundations, this cloistered compound is located amid the historic splendor of Cusco, Peru. Most notably, the hotel serves as an ideal base for exploring the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu. Much of the original architecture of Belmond Hotel Monasterio remains intact, paying homage to its original seminarian occupants. In keeping with its intended purpose, the rooms and suites feature a mix of traditional and contemporary furnishings, with a gallery of religious art gracing the walls. Because of the high elevation, 11,000 feet above sea level, many of the rooms are equipped with an oxygen supplementation system for your added comfort.

Lunch in the gardens is amazing and an oasis compared to the chaos of plaza de armas…

Amazing lunch in the gardens! We were looking for plaza de armas and couldn’t find parking and drove past the monasterio! It’s gorgeous and Ronald was outside and was so friendly we decided to stay for lunch! He walked us in and we ate under a 350 year old tree and had amazing food and service! We want to stay there next time we are in Cusco but lunch was a pretty good start - thanks also to santiago our server for making it a special meal

This hotel is absolutely incredible! It’s beautifully designed and perfectly located near all the main attractions in Cusco. The staff went above and beyond, anticipating our needs, delivering flawless service, and always greeting us with warm smiles and genuine hospitality. A special shoutout to Maria, Bryan, Raul, and Alex for making our stay and anniversary celebration even more exceptional!

Hotel Monasterio in Cusco is truly world-class. Cusco is about 11,000 feet in altitude, but they offer oxygen supplement in rooms. Everything is superb. The manager invited us to a special cocktail party on one night, very gracious.

My daughter and I enjoyed our trip to Peru immensely. We stayed at the Hotel Monasterio in Cusco and found it to be superb. We had a magnificent suite, the staff was perfect and the chef sent us a wonderful surprise birthday cake to our room.

We visited Peru and the entire trip was spectacular. Orient-Express hotels provided exceptional service and world-class accommodations. We stayed at the Miraflores Park Hotel, Hotel Monasterio, and Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. All three hotels had beautiful rooms, outstanding restaurants, and a helpful friendly English-speaking staff. From now on, Orient-Express will be at the top of my list for worldwide travel.
