Reviews for JW Marriott El Convento Cusco

Caring staff when we desperately needed them

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

First, the hotel is beautiful and you’re in the middle of everything. What’s more important is the care from the staff. My boyfriend and I came down with awful food poisoning and bacterial infections and before we knew what the problem was, Sebastian came to our room to administer oxygen, test our blood pressure, etc. He walked to a pharmacy to get us electrolytes. He arranged for a local doctor to check on us. We ultimately had to go to a hospital but everyone on staff knew we were very sick and asked how we were. They came to check on us and brought us extra blankets. I can’t say enough about how much that care meant to us.

Superb!

Our 5 day stay at the impressive El Convento Marriott in Cuzco was one of our best travelling experiences. This is an excellent hotel, superb rooms, most comfortable bed, bedding and facilities. It’s a large hotel in a beautifully restored colonial convent but it really is the charming and unfailingly helpful team of staff that make it an exceptional experience. From the warmest of welcomes from Alejandro in reception, to the faultless and charming personal service at breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the organising of travel plans and events in the hotel. Being recognised by name every day as one left and returned and kindly checking all was well was another touch. Dinner on arrival was superb. Breakfasts delicious. Great coffee. We had enormous fun with the hotel events that brought the Peruvian culture to life. Notably with Chef Bryan and his ceviche making master class, and Williams for the informative pisco tasting and cocktail making class. Do both! Oswald in the restaurant area helped us every day with recommendations and and reservations. Overall, a truly superb and memorable stay made particularly special by the excellent Marriott staff. I highly recommend this hotel not just for the impressive decor, the amazing setting and convenient location, they also really take care of you. PS This is the best Marriott I have ever stayed in anywhere. They went above and beyond in every area.

Incredible experience!!!

I was initially a little unsure about booking this hotel as there are so many other options in Cusco, but I am SO glad I did! My husband and I love to travel, and this was one of the first times that the hotel experience was as memorable a part of the trip as the historic sights and delicious food. The staff here are phenomenal and consistently went the extra mile to make our stay better. Everyone was so kind and welcoming! This started check-in, when Jesus was able to arrange for an early check-in and even put our luggage up in the room so we didn’t have to bring it up ourselves after exploring the city in the morning, and then consistently checked in with us to see how we were doing. We also loved the Pisco class with Igor, who walked us through the fascinating history of the drink and gave us tips on where to find the best local food in the area. But I think my favorite activity was the ceviche making class with Chef Marcello. He took his time to walk us through each step and even gave us a tour of the herb garden at the end! We also (of course!) loved Panchita, who was so cute multiple family members thought she was a stuffed animal. Truly, booking this hotel made our experience in Cusco much more special, and if we ever return, there is no doubt about where we’ll be staying!

Amazing!!

JW Marriott El Convento Cusco is an exceptional hotel that blends luxury with history. Located in a restored 16th-century convent, it offers a unique mix of modern comfort and colonial charm. The rooms are elegant, with comfortable beds and oxygen-enriched air to help with the high altitude. The service is outstanding—staff members are friendly, attentive, and always willing to help. The hotel’s restaurant serves delicious Peruvian and international cuisine, and the breakfast buffet is a must-try. Its location is perfect, just a short walk from Cusco’s main attractions, including the Plaza de Armas. If you're looking for a luxurious stay with a historical touch, this is the place to be!

Room gorgeous service needs improvement

Definitely Not five star service: My luggage was lost and the hotel made no special accommodations to wash the only clothes I had that day. They told me my clothes would be washed when I came from dinner before 9:30 and I was there by 8pm and then said no They recommended a laundry service down the street and I sent my only clothes there and they said it would be back by 6am so I could wear clothes to machu pichu for the 7:20 train and then I was told the next day at 6:45 that no the clothes would not be ready in time for the train In devastating horror I had to travel to machu pichu in bathrobes for 15 hours or lose my $3400 tickets to machu pichu on the Hiram Bingham train It was awful. Also there is no concierge at this hotel. Also when you call the front desk from your room most of the time they do not answer and that is a review I saw several times online from this hotel that they really need to address. Also guest’s must leave at least 20 minutes for the check out process because errors were found on the final bill and it takes longer than usual for correction making us late for our flight which cost me $120 usd to change my flight to a later flight And after all of these mishaps they offered me a free $19 transportation to the airport. What a joke! After spending thousands at their hotel. I’m so disappointed in this jw marriott hotel service and how the hotel management handled the situation. Some positives were: The oxygen provided freely for altitude sickness The free unlimited hot teas The baby alpaca in the courtyard Pisco sour class The luxury suite with terrace was beautiful

One of the best hotels I've ever experienced. A hidden treasure blended with beauty and luxury with a modern lifestyle touch, tucked away in a city rich in culture.

Of the many fine attributes of the JW Marriott Cusco, the blending of historical architecture with modern comforts and high design is most unusual and perfectly executed. From the soft lighting to the rich dark woods and stone in the public areas, the understated atmosphere distinguishes itself as belonging uniquely to the Cusco property. And that holds true all the way to the lower levels where the lovely spa is intimately nestled. Not only was the staff properly warm, friendly and bi-lingual, but equally important highly skilled at their duties (which is surprisingly not always the case in fine hotels).
