Reviews for Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver

Would not stay there again.

The hotel is not up to the standard i was expecting from the brand. A few of the staff were unhelpful, at times rude, and when there was an issue with noise through the night i was made to feel like i was inconveniencing them. They had not advised of work being required, and the noise was intolerable. I eventually got a room change, but got no help in moving our luggage, which was by this time 1am in the morning. The next night an announcement was made to say an alarm had been tripped, fire crew was on its way and to stand by. Nothing more was heard, that lack of further communication resulted in yet a second night with little sleep. Our flight was delayed 24 hours, but rather than stay another night, we checked out and moved to a lovely hotel across the road.

Old and worn down

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This hotel is very dated and worn. There were baseboards ripped off in the hallways, stains on the carpet, paint chipped in the elevators. We had no heat when we checked into our room. Had to call front desk twice to request a visit from engineering. Heat was back on but no way to control temp on wall thermostat. It was about 80 degrees in our room. Tried calling to request early check in and no one at front desk answers the phone. Highly suggest a different hotel.

Weekend trip

The Kimpton is beautiful and in a perfect place close to a lot of things in downtown. Judithe was super kind and accommodating during our stay and I really appreciate her. Also the restaurant attached to the hotel is super yummy! Everyone we interacted with was super kind and helpful.

My Stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver: A Nightmare of Hidden Fees and Poor Service!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

**My Stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver: A Nightmare of Hidden Fees and Poor Service** My experience at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver was one of the most frustrating and disappointing hotel stays I've ever had. No matter your budget, no one wants to be blindsided by unexpected fees—and that’s exactly what happened during my visit. I was in Denver for a three-day work event, and to avoid the 170-mile drive back and forth, especially with snow in the forecast, I decided to book a nearby hotel. After a quick Google search, I found the Kimpton Hotel Monaco on Super.com, just 0.4 miles from my event. The price seemed reasonable—$59.99 per night plus tax and fees, totaling $140.09 for two nights in a King-sized bed with a walk-in shower. The reviews were glowing, praising the stylish rooms, pet-friendly policies (no deposit required), and the convenience of the Panzano restaurant. As someone from Colorado Springs unfamiliar with downtown Denver, this seemed like the perfect choice for me and my two dogs. Unfortunately, things quickly took a turn for the worse. Upon check-in, I was asked to put a $200 "incidental" hold on my card. What I wasn’t told was that a $30 per night gratuity fee would automatically be added to my bill. I discovered this when checking my account on the room’s TV. When I reached out to the front desk, they explained that the fee is standard for all guests, though it hadn’t been mentioned during check-in. To make matters worse, I learned that the hotel doesn’t offer its own parking. This left me with two unappealing options: either search for street parking and carry my luggage and dogs into the hotel or pay $59 per night for valet. I reluctantly opted for valet. I was also informed that there was no designated dog potty area, but a dog park was three blocks away. So, I had to bundle up and take my dogs outside in the snow late at night, where I was even harassed by homeless individuals. Adding to my frustration, while many hotels offer free Wi-Fi, Kimpton charges $12.99 per night for it—another fee I wasn’t informed about. To make matters worse, one of the elevators was out of order, and the room lacked basic amenities like a coffee maker and microwave. The ice machines were only located on odd-numbered floors, so being on the 6th floor, I had to go either to the 5th or 7th floor for ice. I had to request a microwave, and when the refrigerator didn’t work, they had to replace it. The “comforter” on the bed was so thin it provided no warmth, and the extra blanket I asked for was equally flimsy. While they did offer a complimentary glass of cheap wine (with a screw-top) in the evening and coffee and hot cocoa in the morning, these weren’t truly free—they were bundled into the "mandatory" gratuity fees we were charged. Dining options were limited since my car was valet-parked, leaving me with no choice but to eat at the overpriced Panzano restaurant. The hostess recommended a $65 chicken and rice dish, which was bland and tasteless. No condiments were provided, so I had to endure the flavorless meal until I couldn’t take it anymore and threw it away. On the second night, I made it in time for "Happy Hour" and ordered a $15 personal pizza, which was overpriced but at least edible—offering a small relief in an otherwise miserable stay. By the end of my trip, I had paid $140 for the room but was also charged an additional $148 for parking and one night of gratuity fees (the front desk was nice enough to remove one of the charges), $80 including tips for two meals, bringing my total to $448 for two nights. Fortunately, I noticed the Wi-Fi charge before using it and avoided an extra $25-$40 fee by using my phone’s hotspot. Looking back, I would have been better off booking an AirBnB, where I could’ve had free parking, cooked my own meals, and avoided some of these hidden fees. The lack of transparency was the most frustrating part. I understand that some fees are necessary, but failing to disclose them upfront feels dishonest. My advice to anyone booking a hotel—whether through Expedia, Hotels.com, Priceline, or any other platform—is to carefully check the hotel’s website for hidden charges *before* booking. My stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco Denver was an extremely unpleasant experience, and I strongly urge others to be cautious of surprise costs and poor service, especially if you're traveling with pets. Think twice before booking here!
