Donald Trump bought the now-named Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in 2014, adding his imprint to the already well-known golf club and lodge at Doonbeg. Rooms are situated in the grandiose main house or clustered in quaint, contemporary cottages made of French limestone, where impossibly fluffy goose down comforters and classic furniture make for a cozy getaway. The hotel offers genealogy services to guests to trace their potential Irish heritage – no doubt standing on these windswept emerald hills makes many a visitor wish them to be their birthright.

We had a wonderful one night stay. We booked a suite and were upgraded to an ocean view suite on arrival. The check in was smooth. Staff were amazing and really helpful. The suite was absolutely gorgeous and such a treat. All areas of the hotel were relaxing and luxurious. We had some lovely drinks in the bar looking out at the gorgeous views of the sea. My husband was very impressed with the standard of the Guinness served. We had dinner in the bar and restaurant which is a separate building but still very close by. Once again, excellent service but honestly we both found the food underwhelming. My meal was very bland and my husband wasn’t overly impressed either. It was just ok. Breakfast the next morning was phenomenal. Fresh, flavoursome and loads of choice. One of the nicest hotel breakfasts we have had. We ended our stay with a lovely refreshing walk on the beach attached to the hotel. Overall I would highly recommend a stay here. It is expensive but for a special occasion it is totally worth it

If you are not a golfer, don’t go here. Arrived late - mix up with rooms - took over 30m to resolve - with staff finally agreeing our booking was correct. Decor is nice but overpriced and we were glad to leave in the morning. Won’t be coming back. A couple we befriended came fur the golf, but decided not to play because of the wind. Quite a distance from anywhere else, nothing much to see locally.

Just checked in a few hours ago and must say it’s one of the nicest hotels with the most helpful staff. We have stayed in numerous 5stars across Ireland and the rest of the world and trump doonbeg is definitely one of the best. Check in was done immediately by lovely gents at the gate and the facilities are top notch. Staff are excellent.

We arrived Sunday aftenoon just wanted a cup of tea and a scone while we were waiting for the room.we were directed to the golf clubhouse but they couldn't do tea and scones directed to the main bar only to be told that they only did afternoon tea. After about 20 minutes we got a tea and 4 very small scones each.we checked into the room the heat was overpowering .The assistant was unable to adjust it was so hot that it was difficult to walk on the bathroom floor. The room was well presented but very small. We went into Doonbeg for dinner and back to the bar for a drink. When we went to bed we couldn't sleep with the sauna heat in the room. The next night we had to put on the air con high to cool the room but the noise also kept us awake. We went out for a drive the first day to return at 3pm the room had not been made up.We had something light to eat in the Golf Club on the 2nd night which was good.great atmosphere in the bars however as the rooms are so small and hot nowhere to read a newspaper or a book. The one part that is absolutely 5 star is the staff.I left the hotel wrecked after two nights with litte sleep. Is the heating a problem that cant be rectified if so patroms should be told when booking.

Our first stop in Ireland. We arrived, the wind was blowing 65mph, it was raining and chilly. However, from the moment we walked into our cottage villa, the comfort settled in. The coziness hit a peak though as soon as the bellhop turned on the fireplace. The villa is incredible, and the view of the Irish countryside through the recessed windows was peaceful, to say the least. Most of the time there, you feel as though you are looking at a painting. Finally, the shower pressure was the strongest we had ever felt. The food was exceptional and the dining areas in the clubhouse are beautiful. Highly recommend the calamari followed by a drink next to fireplace. In the morning, the a sweet woman arrived at our door with a wicker basket filled with a full Irish breakfast for the two of us. While we were there, we also had a chance to participate in the falconry experience on the property. Molly, the falconer was incredibly sweet and informative, and the birds (Ruby and Forrest) were beautiful. If you have a chance, this is an experience not to be skipped while on site. That same morning we also took a short trip to the Cliffs of Kilkee. They are not quite a grand as Moher, but there was nobody there. Had the place almost entirely to ourselves, which was great. Finally, what really puts this place over the top was the staff. Easy to tell that they were all kind people, but beyond that, as professionals, they were flawless. Doonbeg is not a large place and unless you are a golfer, which we are not, I am guessing it goes largely overlooked. That said, there's plenty of things to do nearby and the resort is nothing short of a 5-star experience.
