Reviews for Turtle Beach by Elegant Hotels

Shocked Marriott is associated with this resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

I have stayed at Marriott Hotels for 1,000+ nights. What I appreciate about Marriott is that there is a minimum standard for service, food, and appearance of the hotel and rooms whether you are staying at a Courtyard or a JW Marriott. Turtle Beach fell short in all areas. I am shocked that Marriott would associate itself with a resort like Turtle Beach. The food and alcohol is the biggest issue. The food is the worst I have eaten at any hotel/resort. It is so bad we have been eating out and enjoying fantastic meals around Barbados. But when you pay for an AI it would be nice to have an enjoyable meal at the resort when you are paying nearly $1,000 per night. The wine that is included in meals is $7 bottle on-line. Just horrible wine. The staff for the most part is friendly and helpful but many seem to really dislike being here. It’s a mixed bag but not up to Marriott standards The hotel is in need of a major renovation which I understand is happening soon. It is very dated and has lots of maintenance issues. In a positive note it is in a great location and has a nice beach. Lots of potential but really falls short on delivering a great experience.

Nice spot, but looking forward to the renovation

So, there's not much point in commenting on the physical condition of a resort that's about to close to undergo a year of renovations. Suffice to say it is quite obvious that the resort needs them. It does, however, seem that some routine maintenance has been ignored as the resort prepares for its major renovation, which may be understandable but isn't really fair to guests who have been paying full price in the meantime. For the positives, the location is fabulous. The resort sits on an absolutely beautiful beach that is rarely very crowded. And while the pools do need some renovation, they are kept immaculately clean. If you're a larger party that wants to lounge together, you do have to be sure to go down first thing in the morning to play the chair game, but contrary to some reviews I never found any problems getting clean towels. Service was generally quite good, with the occasional exception. Our room was serviced every day without issue. Waitstaff were very friendly, though at times they were obviously overwhelmed, and staffing levels did not always seem adequate to deal with the large holiday season crowd. If you have young children, be aware that none of the dinner options seat before 7 pm, which can be tough on the little ones. That's a policy I'd suggest they reconsider post-renovation. I'd like to give a special shout out to the kids club staff, who were all wonderful. Food is about what you would expect at an AI, which is to say that it was generally fine, but rarely rose above that level. The resort is small for an AI, so restaurant choices are limited. They did vary the menu at the lunch and dinner buffet each day to try and offer a variety of cuisines, and some were executed much better than others. We were there for New Year's Eve, and they did a nice job of making the main dinner buffet festive. Overall, I'd say it a pleasant, friendly resort in a lovely location that is showing its age. I'll be very curious to see what it looks like after the renovation, as it has the potential to be a real gem.

Mediocre at best

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

This hotel is barely a 3/5. The facility is dated. The food is a cheap buffet. Some of the staff are nice. Most of the staff seem miserable. Especially the buffet wait staff. The bartenders are great and work very hard. But the absolute most annoying part of this “resort” is that they run out of clean towels by the pool EVERY DAY!!! And no one cares. How can you have a beach resort with not enough towels. So annoying. Definitely over priced for what you get. After this experience I don’t think we’ll ever visit an all inclusive again.

We just returned from another great week at turtle beach I can’t say enough good things about the resort and the staff Dionne, Lennelle, Cheryl, Karen to name a few in the restaurants. Elizabeth, Romar, Ricardo, Winston at the bars. Herm, Nigel and Andrew as bell hops. Renaldo, Ian & Dario are the beach having our chairs ready for us every morning Maradona and Ron serving us drinks is on the beach Jo Ann and Tayna in the front office as well as all the front desk girls Everyone went out if their way to help us As they all say to us “ Welcome Home”. We will miss everyone next year when closed for renovations but will definitely be back in2026 We just LOVE turtle beach

Barbados, turtle beach resort, a waste of time

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

I’m not sure how anyone can write a positive review about this “resort”. Perhaps if they only sit by the pool and do absolutely nothing, or on the other hand, barely stay at the hotel. It is outdated by about 20 years at least, the food is very mediocre at best, they do over-power the drinks as expected, but the waitstaff are always rude and act as if they are annoyed with you all the time. Nothing works, they took our dirty towels one day during service and never gave us new ones. We called housekeeping and the front desk four times over the course of the day and never received towels. If you ask for service, whatever it may be from taxi to towels by the front desk it may never happen. We were almost late to an excursion because they never scheduled our taxi. You know about the towel service. The included activity area tends not to be available. When they are present they take lunch or breaks often so find a small slot to corner them and expect more abrupt responses, no friendly faces. The equipment was in disarray and broken. Compared to Sandals it was a nightmare. We were poking our noses over the fence looking at the organization and fun people had at their own resort at Sandals. Still don’t expect courtesy there either. It was truly a waste staying here and it’s true even when experiencing the rest of the island, manners are scarce. Courtesy may not exist here unless it’s an event where the tip jar comes out at the end. They expect tips even after being rude and taking an exuberant amount of time to help. I’m trying to think of an area at the resort where it made me feel as if I would want to return. Nope I got nothing. I was here twenty years ago and after this time I’m never coming back.
