We continued our cricket tour by flying from Antigua to Barbados arriving at the Turtle bay hotel in the early evening. We did not have a very auspicious start, faced with a long queue at reception. The promised welcome drink did not materialise. The reason for the long queue became apparent when we finally reached the front and were given about 12 pages of terms and conditions which we were required to read and agree to before actually checking in. Basically as far as any of could make out, these made it clear that anything that happened during our stay was our fault and the hotel was responsible for nothing that might go wrong. No wonder everything took so long, When we did eventually reach our room it proved to be of a good size with a decent balcony. The bedside clock, television and wifi did not work. We had to go to reception to get on line. Plenty of reviews have made the point that this hotel is dated and due for a major overhaul, apparently in the new year. This is certainly our impression. To us it seems like a hotel for the masses. There is a small swimming pool. This is mainly used by people to stand in with a cocktail and a phone in order to take selfies. Unfortunately, despite being on the beach, sea swimming was impossible while we were there because of the very choppy conditions. The gym was well equipped and a pleasure to use. There is a small supermarket a few minutes walk from the hotel which enabled us to buy a few essentials. It will be interesting to read reviews of Turtle Beach after the refurbishment has been carried out. There is much scope for improvement but the potential is there. One unusual issue which is not the fault of the hotel is that a walk along the beach is well nigh impossible. Each of the many beach side hotels have extended their properties to the waters edge with a variety of obstructions to make it as difficult as possible to pass from one to another.

Liked · The highlight of my stay was that I was allowed to use their WIFI to find alternative accommodation. Due to the suboptimal room occupancy system, there was no room available for me despite a confirmed booking. Disliked · I would have been very happy if the hotel had offered me an equivalent alternative accommodation given the overbooking. That wasn't the case, so we had to look for a hostel as darkness fell on our first evening on a foreign continent.

Our first time visiting Barbados and we hand picked this hotel to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. We were drawn to the beautiful ocean front room and the location and facilities of the hotel and were very excited! We did feel a bit underwhelmed, as initially, the hotel did not seem to be aware of our special celebration despite informing them ahead over email. We wanted to ensure that this hotel was a better fit for us than the sister hotels. We were emailed back saying we were in good hands and they would make our stay special and not to worry. There were slight issues with the room being a bit dated but these were quickly overlooked by how very spacious and equipped it was. We could hear the waves and had beautiful views of the beach across 2 generous balconies. We were not happy with the birds in the buffet area and slowly a few things started to get to us as we could see the hotel needed some repairs and TLC. We also felt the hotel had not approached us and had not promised on making us feel special at all. We did speak to the client liaison officer, Raisha, on two occasions, raising our concerns and even thought it might be best to get moved but nothing could be done it seemed and nothing materialised. Eventually, we spoke to Shodia, the hotel manager and it was then that things took a turn for the better! She kindly listened to our wishes for our big anniversary day that was approaching and personally took charge. She admitted that the hotel was dated and also informed us that it was being refurbished in 2025. We appreciated her time and honesty and she made us feel at ease, we could see we were in good hands! We wanted a photoshoot on the beach, and a romantic meal on the beach that evening. We were also investigating a couples massage too. She sourced a photographer that she personally knew and had negotiated a very reasonable price and time for us which we happily confirmed. In addition, she had booked us a complimentary romantic meal on the beach courtesy of the hotel for any inconveniences. We were so overwhelmed and thanked her for her kindness. The day ended up to be truly special and magical, our photoshoot was greatly shot and manged by Ryan and he sent us the photos quickly during our stay. Our meal was so beautiful and Chantelle looked after us so well, making us feel very special, the food and ambience spectacular and we really enjoyed it! Shodia, met us throughout our stay to check up on us alongside Raisha and we really started to feel the love resulting in our stay to be truly magical.! Even when we were leaving, Shodia stayed with us to wish us a safe journey back and we shared many hugs. The hotel food was excellent worn lots of variety, both in the buffet and the 2 a la carte restaurants which we visited. The beach was lovely, clean and vibrant with great views, we didn't even mind the waves being a bit choppy! We were even lucky enough to see one of he refurbished rooms at the end to freshen up in before leaving, and it was magnificent! We can see the benefits that the hotel will bring to its customers once refurbished. We would love you to come and stay at this hotel and make some wonderful memories like us. Massive thank you to Shodia, Raisha and Chantelle and many other members of staff. Also to Ryan our photographer!

We stayed here for 10 days. Room was dated but cleaned daily to a reasonable standard, we had an oceanfront room which we paid extra for. Pools were nice and plenty of sun beds. Food was mediocre but our biggest complaint was the birds flying around the dining room, stealing food, pooping on chairs and tables and on one occasion in my coffee cup. This is a health hazard but the staff seem unbothered by this. There is no air-conditioning in any of the public areas other than the rooms and the coffee shop, and due to the humidity we did find this uncomfortable at times. The location at the sea front is very nice although not many bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. The staff on the whole worked hard and were pleasant. The hotel is due to close next year for refurbishment which is much needed.

Saying "Turtle Beach by Elegant Hotels - All-Inclusive is a facility in dire need of infrastructure upgrades and personnel changes" is an understatement. First off, my reservation which was booked directly through Marriott was messed up and I only found out because I called in advance of arrival to make plans given that this was my 50th Birthday trip with friends. Resolving that issue took several calls where I not only incurred international calling charges but dealt with the most helpful Elena and the most unhelpful, dismissive and flat out rude customer service representative by the name of Leonardo. At the time I thought this was a one off and more a reflection of one ill-equip Marriott All-Inclusive customer service employee. Little did I know that this was a sign of the service to come. After all of those calls upon arrival at the hotel my room was still not setup as requested and one of the porters-Andrew- said it was my fault because I should have emailed. Someone should make Andrew aware that an email is not an option on the website AND this comment is unnecessary when delivering bags to the room of weary travelers. The stay itself was a nightmare, the rooms are in severe need of renovation. The bath fixtures are all loose, water leaked from the light above the bathroom sink continuously. On the 4th night of stay there was a storm and the room flooded; water streamed in from the balcony although the doors were closed, we had to move all items to the beds and closet shelves. When reported we were told someone would come to vacuum up the water, this never occurred. We visited the front desk and cordially told the person on duty of our dilemma and she gave us some used beach towels off the floor. By the next morning, our room still had not been checked on by the time housekeeping arrived. Our housekeeper, then asked to use the phone and placed a report of the leak above the bathroom sink that was now a constant fast drip. Still no one ever came to the room. The food at the buffet for breakfast and dinner was poor in taste and options. The breakfast buffet experience was traumatizing because the birds are uncontrolled and overran the tables; plates could not be left unattended. The buffet restaurant staff were mostly cordial but in terms of service they lacked motivation and some were downright disrespectful. There was one instance where it seemed we were intentionally being ignored as the tables around us were bussed but not ours and we did not get the drinks requested and ended having to place request with other staff members. On one night we did visit the sister site Crystal Cove and the buffet was better. On my last day I expected to have late check out as it was mentioned in my arrival letter only to realize there was a process that was not explained at check-in. I chuckled because it was on the last day that I had the most individuals check on the room as it seemed they were getting different messages from the front desk and each time they came by they were surprised that I had not been given guidance on the later checkout process or called. Ultimately I left the nightmare that was Marriott's Turtle Beach by Elegant Hotels - All-Inclusive earlier than planned for the airport just seeking a more hospitable location before my flight . The only bright spot at Turtle Beach by Elegant Hotels - All-Inclusive was the activities team, Randall was really helpful. Other than that I left Turtle Beach by Elegant Hotels - All-Inclusive feeling I had paid thousands of dollars to be treated like I was invisible, unworthy of basic courtesy and not as valued as other guests. On my last day while waiting for my taxi, I did speak with an individual who identified herself as a Customer Service manager, she seemed to listen but I did not even note her name because at this point a person just listening with no immediate action is annoying; it feels like a platitude after 5 nights of egregious service. Which it was, because since then I have reached out to Marriott directly, completing the after-stay survey and have gotten no responses. In fact the stay has somehow vanished from my Marriott Bonvoy history. May not be related but after this experience I cannot tell. MARRIOTT please close this facility until it meets the standards your clients expect and revisit customer experience training with your teams.
