Great dining experience

Came for an overnight stay as a last minute treat and will definitely be back! The Cameron Grill deserves a mention for both evening and breakfast service, our night time meal was delicious and the service was perfect! Breakfast the next day was the highlight of our stay from the second we were greeted at the door by the hostess ( and her lovely smile, we think her name is Eilidh? ) we felt welcomed and could tell how professional all the staff working were as they handled every table with the same care and attentiveness! Overall a great stay with all the staff making us feel like VIPs!

Another great visit

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

We are lucky enough to have stayed before on a few occasions and we had another great visit to the Hotel this time as well. The rooms in the older part of the hotel are lovely and so spacious - its hard to find fault. They are immense and everything is on point. We had dinner in the Cameron Grill in the evening and that was excellent. The prices are not cheap and there isnt a massive selection (no chicken dish which is odd??) but the food quality is 1st class. After dinner we had drinks in the main bar and this time there was live music which was a welcome treat. Breakfast was excellent as usual even though we had to queue for 10 mins for a table. Service is good but its not quite top notch - when we arrived we walked past the doormen with 2 big bags - nobody offered to assist. We didnt bother with valet parking. The person who check us in was lovely and so was our server in the restaurant although she didnt know much about the drinks on offer. Generally, staff are very good and very pleasant so its minor point. We will definitely be back but I have 2 small niggles. Firstly, check out is now 11am when most hotels are 12pm and check in is not until 4pm when most are from 2pm. Considering the price of rooms, a few extra hours makes a difference and seems to have changed since we visited in February. It just makes check out in the morning feel like its a rush by the time you factor in breakfast. Our second niggle is the lack of any minimum dress code in the main Cameron Grill restaurant, especially at breakfast. Given Cameron House says its a 5 star hotel, we didnt think some males being allowed in to the restaurant wearing football tracksuits and others with shorts was in-keeping with the standard the hotel is portraying - I dont think you would see this at other 5 star hotels. Breakfast is more relaxed and causal clothes are totally mine if its "smart casual" but it seems like anything goes and that just opens the floodgates to standards slipping. Looking forward to our next visit in 2025.

Cameron House

Cameron House is in perfect location. We have been coming here for many years. Hotel beautiful. Room amazing. Disappointed that we couldn’t enjoy a light lunch in The main bar on arrival. Staff very helpful especially lovely girl on reception. Also Ghillie’s in Reception Area who always extend a warm welcome.

Poor Customer Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 days ago

I have been trying to arrange a dinner for a special occasion at Cameron House for two weeks. My initial email to the generic Reservations email address (as the only contact details available) was met with a response to a completely different question, which was not relevant to my circumstances. My subsequent emails were not responded to until this morning whereby they spelt my name incorrectly and stated it had been passed to a different department but with no timeline for a response or details of someone I can follow up with directly. It is incredibly frustrating that something as simple as arranging a dinner has now taken several weeks and continues to be unresolved.

Urgent - FAO the Food and Beverage Manager. They are dragging the reputation down.

We were obviously expecting a first class experience from all the hype and stories you hear about the famous Cameron House on Loch Lomand. When we arrived we instantly saw how beautiful the property was. What was first class was the concierge team! Faultless, perfection and effortless are some of the words we’d use to describe how they performed. Nothing was too much trouble, they second guessed what you’d need, they were there in a flash. Top class for sure and they certainly lived up to the expectations. Next- front of house: professional, knowledgeable, attentive and accommodating: they too were exceptional. They really set the scene for a memorable and exclusive stay. The rooms and facilities were excellent too. The resort had everything you’d need for a relaxing stay. The housekeeping team were like ghosts! Everything was spotless, attention to detail, perfect and all without being noticed! What a brilliant team! So why have I rated this 5 star experience a 3 star? It’s all because the Food and Beverage team drag them down. They are miles behind the other departments and what a huge pity for the resort and disappointment for guests. They don’t have any of these 5 star skills, talents or services. What a terrible let down. They were poor. Here are our immediate experiences during our stay: 1. In the Great Scot bar we ordered two glasses of white wine from the menu. We ordered Verdejo. From a distance we could see the staff member ( the one who wasn’t using the mirrored bar to clip up her hair) pouring red wine. Red wine arrived. We asked if that was our wine - she said yes. She said didn’t you order the rueda. We said yes. Verdejo is rueda. And that is white. She apologised, took it away and brought us two £14 glasses of Verdejo. Then the bill arrived totalling £54. I asked her what she’d charged us. She said “there’s a service charge”. I said not for that much there isn’t. She said it is. I said 2 x £14 = £28 how much service charge is it? Then she looked embarrassed and said she must have added someone else’s drink to our bill. Poor and tardy and lack of basic knowledge and badly trained. 2. In the Italian restaurant that same day we had a similar experience. The waiter explained the specials but forgot to tell us what wasn’t available. After waiting 10 or 15 minutes, we ordered what we really wanted and he apologised because that wasn’t available. We revisited the menu. We opted for spaghetti carbonara. Away he went and 20 minutes later the senior restaurant manager came sheepishly to our table to explain the 5 star hotelˋs famous Italian restaurant hadn’t got any spaghetti! We politely stifled our laughter at that faux pas and accepted the tagliatelle alternative. We wondered if any other Executive Chef at any other luxury hotel would forget to order spaghetti in their Italian restaurant. 3. The following evening we ate in the Tavern because we were enticed by the Thursday quiz. The team were wonderful and attentive and the two bottles of white Albarińo ( £46 a bottle) was delicious. When paying 5 star prices you expect 5 star service. Once again, when we asked for the bill, it arrived with our drinks and food plus other people’s drinks too. Another embarrassment for the Food and Beverage team. I never usually unpick a bill. I never check every item but here at Cameron House it’s essential. That’s not 5 star luxury at all. So all in all, this lovely team is dragged down by a poorly trained, tardy, sloppy and scrappy food and beverage department right from the highest paid job to the lowest. Would we return? No. We don’t ever receive that many mistakes in any hotel we visit. The level of service is something equivalent to what we’d imagine a 2 or 3 star team would deliver, but having said that, we’d probably not encounter mistakes in every venue on every visit. To achieve this level of poor service is quite an achievement. Sorry Cameron House, but you need to show this review to your F&B manager and get them to make drastic changes. We don’t need the Hospitality Ambassador to explore this further with us. I can’t possibly go into more detail. All you need to do is sort out this imploding department before the December guests arrive. Good luck.
