Quirky, friendly and comfortable. I was extending a business trip to Raleigh on my own dime and decided Durham would be nice to explore. Such a good break from boring corporate hotels. The staff, including housekeeping and front door staff are friendly. I was skeptical of the whole art gallery thing but the art was actually really interesting. Getting a free sip of bourbon and walking around it in the evening is worthwhile. I liked the architecture and the room was very comfortable with good showers. Good bar in the restaurant with friendly bartender named Drake. Near the amazing 9th Street bakery for breakfast and lunch. Parking is a bit pricey.

I was looking forward to staying at Hotel 21C as I had never stayed here before and its location is centrally located in a revitalized and vibrant downtown Durham. I would say that overall, it is a mediocre hotel with regards to the services provided and not worth the $400+/night we paid for our stay. The rooms themselves are nice and we had booked a suite, which was a nice size. That being said, we had 3 people in the room (which we indicated on the room request), but there was only a king size bed. One would think there would be a pullout couch, but that did not exist, nor was there bedding for the couch. I found the service at the hotel to be lackluster for a 4 star hotel. While at check in, which was a smooth process, they ran through the usual, including where to refill water. One would think that for a hotel of this caliber, there would be daily housekeeping, but I was told the next day that this needed to be requested upon check-in or the morning service is requested. Obviously, 2:30pm was too late to request. When I asked for a refresh in towels, I was told there would be no problem, but they never came. Lastly, my room was one that backed up on the elevator bank and you could hear it whizzing all night long. Overall, an adequate stay but not one that I would rush back to.

Dirty carpet, no managers available, staff oblivious to no heat, no bartender, cold food, elevators broken, no body wash in room, weird noises from neighboring room that was empty and saw underage female buy alcohol drinks Staff members walk away into stairwell leaving front desk empty

Do not stay here! We are currently staying at the Durham Museum 21c hotel Durham. When we arrived our room was very hot - the thermostat read 85 degrees. The air did not seem to be working. A housekeeper was there in the hallway and said she would report this to the front desk, as we were rushing to an appointment. When we returned the thermostat read 78 degrees. We called the front desk and were told that the engineers had left but she would see if she could move us to a different room. She did not call us back, so again we called and she said the hotel was sold out but they had brought us a fan. When we checked there was no fan. Over the next hour they continued to say they brought a fan and knocked on our room door, but we were by the door and checking the whole time and no fan was brought. I asked if there was emergency maintenance on call and she hung up on me. I called back and nobody answered the phone. I called back many times over about 20 minutes and nobody answered the phone. I called on my cell phone and tried to explain there was no fan brought up. She was extremely rude and argumentative and hung up again. My husband went to the front desk to retrieve the fan and try to find out whether there was emergency maintenance. The front desk manager then said we were harassing her and she was going to call the police. My husband never threatened or raised his voice. He was simply asking a question in a very calm manner and she would not answer. I have never in my life been treated this way or accused of harassment. Please do not stay here as it is very low budget and has terrible service.

Clean and comfortable rooms. The staff was very helpful with any questions. Lots of cool amenities and art to check out! Several food options right across the street as well as a bar inside the hotel. 10/10 would stay here again. Came here for a business event and the catering and meeting rooms were well managed and delicious.
