This is a lovely hotel situated about a 5 minute walk from Princes Street. Rooms are spacious and beds very comfortable. There is parking at the rear of the property, albeit limited, however we had no issue finding a space. Our only issue is we found the staff at reception when booking in and checking out to have no interpersonal skills and basically showed no interest in us. This is a minor point, however in a 5 star establishment I would certainly have expected to have had a warm welcome and upon leaving be asked if I enjoyed my stay and if everything was to my satisfaction.

This period property is very elegant and classical throughout. There is a nice ambience, feeling calm. The staff were polite and helpful. Unfortunately, other aspects of the hotel really disappointed. Cooked breakfast 🍽 The cooked breakfast menu was a let down. On the first morning, I chose pancakes with banana and honey. I have to admit, I was rather sceptical when the pancakes arrived to my table literally seconds later. They were cold, bland, tough and chewy. I had to notify the (nice) waitress, who was quick and helpful in dealing with the matter. She took the plate away and offered me the menu again, so that I could order something else. Bedroom 🛌 I have slept in many hotels and this bed was by far the hardest bed I've ever slept in. It felt like sleeping on a rock, and I didn't sleep well during my 2 night stay. I had ventured out during each day, and walked over 16,000 steps on my first day, and over 18,000 steps on my second day. I would have thought this would make me tired enough to sleep through each night. However, no such luck. I tossed and turned and woke each night just trying to get comfy somehow. I had assumed that since this hotel had a 5 star rating, the beds would be comfortable. I don't know if it was just the mattress in the room I stayed in, or if this is consistent throughout the hotel. The temperature during the night ranged from warm, too hot, to cold and chilly. There was no way of regulating the temperature of the room. The room was pleasant decor wise but definitely on the smaller side space wise. There was hardly much room to walk without banging into furniture (chair, table etc). I've stayed in other 5 star and even 4 star hotels which were cheaper per night with more spacious rooms. It was hard to get any peace when I could constantly hear noises from the room. If it wasn't staff moving cleaning equipment or speaking loudly, it was doors squeaking and slamming. I also heard chatter, laughter and the television from other rooms. The room was slightly dusty in areas, i.e. the table and above the shower vent. The hotel is a 25 minute walk from the main attractions and places of interest. I would recommend staying closer to the attractions to save having to walk thousands of steps (which I did) or paying for cabs and buses. I had spent ages searching for a nice 5 star hotel to stay in on my first trip to Edinburgh. The Bonham Hotel did not live up to my expectations. For the price I paid for my two night stay (over £300), it wasn't worth it. I wouldn't recommend this hotel and I wouldn't return unfortunately.

I really liked this hotel, I can't remember a better hotel experience. The staff were amazing, so helpful, friendly. I wish I knew all their names, but Lucas stood out as a model for all hotel staff. The location is quiet and about a 10 min walk from some great restaurants, and about 20 from the old town. This place has an old world feel, which I love. Oak paneling and beautifully decorated areas to relax and have a drink. The room was great, plenty of hot water, and though it's old, everything worked perfectly. My room key card was only required for entry to the room, not for the elevator, not to keep the room lights on, I liked that. If there is anything that could be improved, I'd say the food. It's not that it was bad, just felt it lacked the oomph that the rest of the experience had. But that wasn't an issue because Edinburgh has a great selection of places to eat. Price wise, it was very reasonable, I've paid more for much much less.

Beautiful, elegant hotel in one of Edinburgh’s handsome(so many!) New Town streets.Area very quiet at night though perfectly safe of course. Our room was stunning, understated, a bit like a bedroom on the Royal Yacht, I thought.Classy.Classical music playing in it as we entered c/o of a Robert’s radio, setting the tone so to speak. Lovely sitting area overlooking the private park opposite. The cocktail lounge was just gorgeous and the best Margarita I’ve had anywhere at a reasonable price too. Lovely staff.
