Almost Perfect

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

We stayed here a couple of nights recently. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it for anyone coming to the area. The location is perfect for the city center, either a short walk or bus ride will get you to most places you want to. The hotel itself is clean and modern, and all the staff encountered were excellent, friendly and helpful. The only thing that let it down slightly was a few small maintenance issues in the room. The towel hook was coming out the wall, the bed sheets had a small hole worn in them and the shower head couldn't support its own weight. None of these issues were bad enough to make a complaint just let the perfection down slightly. The room we had overlooked the usher hall and castle and the small plate of chocolates that was in the room on arrival with 'Happy Birthday' written in chocolate was a lovely touch. We spent a few hours in the bar and the staff there were very knowledgeable and attentive, it had a good atmosphere. We also spent a few hours in the spa thermal suite, which was very relaxing, a very good array of rooms and showers. We didn't eat in the hotel as had planned to explore the city and eat out and there are hundreds of restaurants/bars within a 20-30min walk of the hotel Overall a great stay.

Mediocre

Booked 2 king rooms for 3 nights so our daughter could meet her best friend that had moved to Scotland, booked and paid for the rooms on Hotels.com. When we checked in we were immediately fleeced of a further £300 - some kind of security deposit I was completely unaware of. Bye bye spending money! It will take 7 working days to refund the money to my account. Our time in Edinburgh was pretty much ruined by this and we had to really watch our spending. Despite this, the rooms were nice and very comfortable. Very clean and we couldn’t fault anything. Loved the layout and having a bath and a shower. Swimming pool nice but I booked the hotel so that the girls could make use of it. However, under 16s only allowed in a hour in the am and an hour in the pm. My husband and I went the spa which I was really excited to use - pictures looked amazing… save your money and avoid!!!! It was so cold!!! We lasted

All services 1st class BUT....

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

Service, rooms, food and drinks all 1st class (haggis bon bons terrific). Only thing that needs addressing is the chairs in One Square Bar lounge area are badly in need of cleaning. I understand that they get a lot of traffic from residents and also people just coming in for drinks and food, but the chair covers and cushions are in need of serious attention. Apart from this the hotel is 1st class and will certainly return.

Midweek Break

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

My boyfriend and I got a great value deal midweek with a lovely room and discounted spa entry. The service was excellent and upon check out, we got a day’s free parking, which was a nice and subtle gesture. I definitely recommend this hotel and I hope to return soon.

Good stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Check in was lovely. Receptionist was very pleasant and professional. Room was lovely, bed was so comfortable. Lighting in the bedroom/bathroom a nice touch. We had a club room so came with use of the club, we went, it was busy, noone greeted us, we were a bit like headless chickens. We sat down at the only available seats at a bar type thing in the middle, noone spoke with us, I had to go and get someone. Noone explained what we could have or what was included, bit disappointing. Breakfast was nice, was busy so service was a bit slow, can't be helped. Overall really good, but the experience in the club room which costs extra was really disappointing.
