Mixed experience but great customer service

My partner and I stayed here for four nights in April. The hotel is excellently situated with fantastic views over Florence, and is a 30-minute bus ride from the city. It’s also a 5-minute bus or 10-minute walk from the lovely town of Fiesole. The hotel is charmingly furnished and styled, and occupies beautiful buildings. Our room had some pleasing amenities, including a double-shower and dressing gowns, and a fantastic view over the city - although the room was marred slightly by the busy road outside, which is presumably also a feature of other rooms at the front. Unfortunately there were a few things that didn’t meet our expectations, but the hotel bent over backwards to make up for them. Our shower drain was blocked and then, after this was fixed, there was a bad smell that came from the drain. I thought this had eventually been sorted out, but on showering on the final morning it turned out that it hadn’t; housekeeping staff had had to put a towel over the drain to stifle the smell. Moreover, a few features of our stay meant that we had to treat the hotel essentially as a bed and breakfast, and couldn’t relax there on any of our days (the breakfast was a decent continental breakfast). There was loud construction work onsite during our stay, and also just above the hotel site; it would have been very useful for this to have been flagged on the hotel website. Additionally, the website (at least the mobile version) stated that, as well as the Michelin star restaurant onsite, there was a less-expensive menu as well as all-day dining; it turns out this information had been misleading and that these weren’t options during our stay (we couldn’t afford the Michelin star option!). Finally, the pool was closed during our stay; it turns out that there are rules in Italy about when outdoor pools can be open, but this wasn’t clear from the website. If we’d known all these facts, we’d probably have booked somewhere else. However, when I spoke to the manager, Beatrice, she was absolutely lovely - very understanding and so generous in wanting to make amends. In the end, on our final evening the hotel gave us a delicious aperitif and nibbles all on the house, and booked us into a gorgeous restaurant for dinner - Terrazza 45 in nearby Fiesole - taking care of the bill. So despite the problems, our stay finished on a wonderful note. I can imagine that once the construction work is finished, and if they sort out the plumbing issues that seem occasionally to arise, and rectify the info on their website about dining options and the pool, this would be a really lovely, beautiful place to stay - as so many other guests seem to have found.

Exemplary

We enjoyed a wonderful 5 days staying at this lovely hotel. The staff can't do enough to help from reception (incredible staff of which the group should be proud), restaurant, rooms, you name it, they are all fantastic. Our room was spacious, the bed really comfortable and towels lovely and soft. The dressing gown felt very luxurious. We ate breakfast at the hotel (which had a great all round choice) and since the weather was good we ate outside with a view over Florence. Each evening we ate in the village, a two minute bus ride up the hill. There is a busy road outside but that is because you are on the route up the hill. It is quiet at night. The advantage is that the bus stops just outside! We visited Florence, Venice and spent two days in and around Fiesole which is lovely. A fabulous hotel which offers easy access to Florence but the enjoyment of a gorgeous hill you town with amazing views. I would love to stay again. A big thanks by the way to Nicola who made our breakfast on the last day perfect. Tip. Don't miss the Roman amphitheatre in Fiesole.

Amazing place. The views of Florence and surrounding areas are breath taking. The staff are very helpful & friendly they really can’t do enough for you. Nicolas who was our waiter at breakfast during the whole time we were there was just perfect , so very kind and thoughtful, & everyday he made us just smile. Informative and helpful on the things to do around Florence. The room we stayed in was so clean, lovely super king bed and everything you would need for a stay . We never ate in the Michelin star restaurant as we preferred trying lots of different restaurants in Florence. So glad we stayed just slightly out of Florence - can’t wait to stay at this lovely hotel again . When you stay at this hotel we seriously recommend taking the bus into & out of Florence as the bus stop is 3 minutes away from the hotel. We found the taxi’s a complete ripe off a trip into Florence which is approx 3 miles would cost (depending on the taxi driver) anything from €32 to €45 euro - bus approx £2.50 return. Enjoy

FH55 is a very nicely located hotel overviewing Florence. It is about 10 km to city center and there is a public bus leaving every 10 min infront of the hotel. The rooms are small but contains all the necessities. They even have a Michelin marked restautant. Breakfast is rich and well served. For nice weathers there is a large garden to enjoy. Reception team is wonderful.
