The NH Collection Firenze Porta Rossa, part of the Lifestyle collection of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, is thought to be the oldest hotel in Italy, complete with a 13th-century tower and ancient frescoes. It has an outstanding location in the center of Florence, just a few minutes’ walk from the famous Duomo and Uffizi Gallery. The hotel’s 72 rooms are the epitome of sophistication, fusing old-world charm with modern furnishings in ivory cream and brilliant red.

Everything about my stay was perfect. From the greeting upon arrival, showing me the room, breakfast in the morning, staff at breakfast, everything. I had a fabulous room. The little gifts were very thoughtful. The size of the room and bed super comfortable. Every evening someone would come and leave a chocolate, towel on the floor and in the bathroom. Small touches that make you feel well taken care of. Breakfast - highly recommend the omelette with zucchini and onion. Ana and Giani were always warm and welcoming and both remembered my order from the day before. I wouldn't skip the breakfast. The location is perfect. Right by the Strozzi palace, Duomo, Piazza de la Republica, Ponte Vecchio, Palazzio Vecchio. The hotel is accessible by bus from the train station. A perfect stay.

Bed Bugs Meet Apathy: This was my second stay at NH Porta Rosa Hotel (10 night stay at the NH Porta Rosa) and I was scheduled to stay at the hotel for a third time, in late November, for the Thanksgiving Holiday. I have, since my last stay, cancelled my third visit. (It is important to note that this is the only hotel I stayed at during this trip to Italy) Unfortunately, the Family Room that I booked was infested with Bed Bugs. The bugs were feasting on me for several days before I became concerned. This was partly due to me dismissing the bites as regular mosquito bites and partly to my inexperience with Bed Bugs. It was not until I was consistently being bit in new places, including my face, that I asked the Hotel to recommend a doctor. I went to see the dermatologist that the Hotel staff recommended. The Dermatologist, immediately upon seeing the bites, asked if I were staying in a hostel. The doctor then explained that they were bed bugs that originate in the place that I was sleeping. I informed the hotel staff that the doctor diagnosed the bites as bed bugs and that the source is in the room I was currently staying in. Only after considerable debating and a full day of dealing with only the staff, because the General Manager never had time to speak to me himself, did they change my room and not charge me for that night’s stay. It was only after considerable effort, in explaining that I had to undergone several days of discomfort and interference with my vacation plans, as well as additional costs in medical and laundry bills (to have all my clothes laundered before being able to bring them back into my home) did they discount me for another nights stay. Unfortunately, the Hotel staff did not seem to understand the difference between cleaning the room and exterminating the bugs from the room. I do not believe, after having several conversations with the staff, that they will take the proper steps to avoid another hotel guest from undergoing the same fate. To further note, I have travelled to Italy my entire life and am a fluent Italian speaker, I have never experienced this level of indifference and apathy in addressing a serious concern.

A gorgeous characterful building with stylish decor and one of the best breakfasts I have experienced on holiday. The bar drinks and snacks were delightfully elegant. Room was quite small and cost was high but it is certainly worth it for the central location and for a special experience. Staff are first rate.

Our Costo Travel package included Florence & Rome . Florence is walkable and great central location to restaurants & sights . Breakfast buffet included w fresh fruit double expresso s eggs and pastries. Much more . This is a 15 th century former estate . Our floor had a ice machine & fizzy or still water machine. Staff great . We practiced our Italian. All staff speak English but they appreciate our efforts. Close cab ride to airport & train and walk to scenic river w bridges.
