On the dramatic, volcanic island of Madeira, southwest of mainland Portugal in the vast expanse of the Atlantic, Quinta da Casa Branca blends uniquely contemporary style with an original manor -- site of the hotel's gourmet restaurant -- that dates back to the 19th century. Every room and suite boasts a glass wall opening directly onto the beautiful grounds, and the glass-walled bar, lounge and library beckon the sunshine as they look out over magnificent gardens toward magnificent vistas of the mountains and ocean.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in November 2024 — it is a very beautiful hotel with excellent service - there was a very nice excellent garden outside our room which was amazing and the room was very good. We took the Garden Room with garden view — It had a very nice terrace with 2 comfortable loungers. The staff were very very friendly / cordial - on the first night we had food at one of the restaurants in the hotel and it was really good - I ordered the Veg Burger which was amazing. The french fries that I ordered were very good - the breakfast was very good. In the staff, Ms. Erica at the reception and Mr. Nuno were excellent. The location of the hotel was very good because there were nice restaurants like the white house restaurant and Papa Manuel Lido restaurant very near to the hotel and they had amazing food and great service. Grocery stores like Spar and supermarkets like Pingo Doce were very close.

What a beautiful hotel, a 5 star experience from start to finish. The staff truly can’t do enough for you and are so conscientious. We had our 18 month old toddler with us, and although this hotel isn’t child focused, everyone (guests included) were so kind and friendly with our son - I’m sure he felt like a celebrity all week. The grounds of the hotel are spectacular! It is very tranquil, it’s like its own little Oasis. Having breakfast in the garden was a joy each morning. Fresh orange juice, champagne, fresh fruit, bread and pastries each morning. And an array of meats and cheeses that change up everyday with tasty hot food available too. The manor restaurant is a beautiful setting with stunning food and service. The restaurant staff/chef would cook my toddler whatever we asked of them, nothing was too much trouble. Our twin room was spacious and kept very clean. The cot was good quality and comfy. It was nice to be able to step into the garden from the patio doors. We can’t thank QCB enough for making our stay unforgettable. We met some lovely people and made fabulous memories.

The hotel is set in beautiful and well maintained gardens but apart from that it has serious limitations for a five star hotel. The rooms in the main block are tired and out of date and sadly lacking in some modern facilities. Our room lacked a walk-in shower, only offering a shower over the bath, not really suitable for older guests. Room furniture, like bedside lockers, was cheap and dated. Most annoying is the scarcity of power sockets in the room and complete absence of any near the bedside lockers. Charging everyday items like phones and tablets is a challenge and a nightmare for guests with rechargeable hearing aids or watches. Room cleaning was careless at best. I was able to draw in the dust on the television stand and writing desk. There is serious discolouration on the timber panelled walls in the corridors and in the rooms. I suspect there have been water leakage problems as there are residual smells of stale water. Breakfast is provided in an outhouse in the garden which is accessed by a stone pathway which is a real slip hazard when wet. The building used for breakfast is too small for the purpose, especially on days when the outside terrace can't be used. The Breakfast Buffet is congested, poorly labelled, especially in regard to allergens, and not really fit for purpose. The problem could be solved in an instant simply by moving breakfast to the spacious Manor House. We made the bad mistake of buying the "3 dinners for €45 each". What you actually get is a very limited choice (especially if one has allergies) from an already limited menu. Although we stayed 8 nights we found it hard to find 3 nights on which there was anything suitable on the menu. There is much better fare on offer in the many outside restaurants nearby. My recommendation to anybody considering a visit to Quinta da Casa Branca is to wait until the hotel has had a makeover and modernisation.

An excellent hotel above the busy town of Funchal. Sitting in its grounds it was hard to believe that you are only a few minutes from the busy tourist centre of west Funchal. The hotel has created a green pleasant oasis amid the hustle and bustle of a busy tourist area. Food was very good, try the tuna dish with local wine. Choice of breakfast was very good, choices included full English through to fresh fruit and savoury dishes. I can fully recommend Quinta fa Casa Branca.

We had a very enjoyable 4 night stay. As others have said, this hotel is set in beautiful garden grounds and is very tranquil. Our room 500 was exceptionally well appointed and looked after by friendly staff who always greeted us in passing. In fact all the staff here should be congratulated in the way they treated us. Breakfast was excellent each morning. Cold buffet fully stocked and the cooked option was fresh and tasty. We had one evening meal which was also very good but ate out as there are restaurants close by. We felt that the main centre of Funchal was more like a 30 to 40 minutes walk to reach the market and cable car area and chose a taxi back after a day’s sightseeing. It was only 6 euros. A highlight during our stay was being involved in seeing how the banana plantation’s were watered. Staff showed us around and it was entertaining and informative. All in all we loved this hotel.
