The Fortress Resort & Spa

We decided at short notice to stay on the South Coast of Sri Lanka and relax for a few days at the Fortress. Our stay was exactly what we had planned and the hotel staff were excellent as were all the facilities. The restaurant was good and the resort is close to several beachside areas which had great little restaurants. We were in an entry level Fortress room which was large, clean and well serviced each day. The only disappointment we had was being unable to have our curtains open due to the constant flow of staff talking loudly and walking right past our window and being able to see right into our room while we were changing, having a shower or just laying in bed at night. This was very surprising for a hotel of this quality and price and the lack of privacy should not be an issue even in an entry level room. We would stay again but take care about the room selection.

The room space and cleanliness were good. The buffet breakfast was outstanding, and we thoroughly enjoyed it for nearly two hours. The staff at The Fortress Resort and Spa were friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to enjoy the spa or the swimming pool. However, the seaside view in the evening and the sunset were incredibly relaxing and memorable.

While looking for a place near Galle we booked this place since it’s an ocean front property. There are many things going for this property 1 . Superlative service by staff from check in to the room service to the staff at the White Restaurant . Always friendly and proactive 2. Food at the White restaurant is excellent- both Srilankan and Continental dishes 3. Large and luxurious ocean front rooms and a sprawling and clean pool Few things to be aware of 1. There are no good restaurants in the neighbourhood if you want to try a meal elsewhere. You will have to travel to the nearest town of Ahangama 2. Cabs and Tuk Tuks are pricey- Try Ashintha travels for better deals. Their coordinates are on Google 3. There’s nothing much to do apart from a Koggala lake tour and an evening to Galle fort. Also a day trip to Yala if one has the time. So come here if all you want to do is relax by the beach and watch stunning sundowners

If you’re looking for pure luxury and indulgence then, The Fortress Resort and Spa fits the bill. We spent 9 wonderful nights, being pampered and extremely well looked after. Our sea view room was beautiful, with stunning views. Without a doubt the staff are amazing, with special mentions to Ahmed on reception, Sam in the White restaurant, the Turtle man, for pool duties, and finally a great thanks to Weeasinghe who attended our room, and made a special effort with the decorations for my birthday. The food, in the White restaurant was amazing, with more than enough choice, and special requests were handled without drama or fuss. The buffet breakfast catered for all tastes, and again excellent choices. Probably the best beachfront hotel in Sri Lanka.
