Grootbos Private Nature Reserve

Grootbos was absolutely wonderful and the view of the coastline is better than the pictures! We stayed at the Forest Lodge for 3 nights and we did a beach picnic (highly recommended), cave exploration, flower/fynbos safari, and horseback riding. We even got lucky enough to enjoy a special boma dinner in the forest. Grootbos is an easy 2 hour drive from Cape Town and worth every penny! Our guide, Ruaan, and server, Candice, took excellent care of us. Many thanks to all of the staff for a memorable and enjoyable stay for our family.

Me and my family stayed at Forest Lodge Suite in Grootbos Private Nature Reserve,Gansbaai, South Africa 🇿🇦 I enjoy staying at Grootbos . The place is amazing, the food is awesome, the nature around the place is fantastic. One of my favorite food is venison burger, so juicy and yummy! When we first arrived, we assited by one appointed staff who greet us personally and also as our guide who showed us the room and also arranged our activities at Grootbos. There are lot of activities there: horse riding, flora safari (botanical 4x4 tour), whale watching, beach & cave walk and other attarctions. It's so magical to stay there. I enjoyed the flora safari. It's a great experience to see lot of beautiful flowers and birds. South Africa, a paradise on Earth with its diverse landscapes, vibrant culture, and incredible wildlife, has left an indelible mark on our hearts. Hope to be back there again soon!

Want to be treated like a king and queen - this is your place. Not a far drive off from the highway. From the minute you step in- you are spoilt. Drinks are on the house. The food delicious. Not fully halal but more than enough options to choose from. The activities are well arranged with your personal guide. The rooms are super- we stayed in the Forest Lodge side. Horse riding was special. We bought quite a few plants from their nursery. You are never rushed for any meal. I would return in a heartbeat.

What can you say, this place blew me away. I’ve stayed at some top hotels around the world and this one is right up there. The suite was enormous separated into a large lounge area, then a bedroom, then a large bathroom. There were three showers including one outside on the deck. Everything was spotlessly clean, they provide a fully stocked complimentary mini bar which is replenished everyday – even down to a new lemon for your G&T. The meals in the restaurant are exceptional with service to match. But for me the outstanding part of Grootbos is their Foundation and Conservation work. Our drives and walks with Gareth were so interesting and thought provoking. They also have the Florilegium, where the scientific artwork on display brought tears to my eyes. A truly special place and I would love to return and to stay for longer than 2 nights to fully appreciate the beauty.

We spent time at Grootbos with the whole family. The service, accommodation and nature were fantastic. The entire service team at the reception, in the children's club, in the restaurant and on the tours was excellent. We met the owner Michael during dinner and had a long chat to learn more about the history and development path of Grootbos. We really appreciate that! Our children were surprised at how well he speaks German and excellent storyteller. Grootbos is beautiful because of its nature and the warmth of the team.
