New year celebration stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

I chose to stay at Wilson President Hotel for my New Year’s Eve countdown after reading many positive reviews. However, my experience did not meet the expectations of a five-star luxury hotel. We arrived at the hotel around 12 PM, well before the regular check-in time, hoping for an early check-in. Unfortunately, there were no rooms available, but Ines at the reception assured me that my room would be ready by 3 PM. That was fine, as I had booked a La Mer facial and thought I could use the spa facilities while waiting. However, the receptionist informed me that I could only access the spa after my facial. I found this disappointing, as it left me with nothing to do but sit and wait until my appointment at 1 PM. After my facial, when I inquired about using the spa, the beautician advised against it, stating that it would not be beneficial for my skin. This was frustrating because the receptionist had originally advised me to use the facilities after the treatment. The misalignment in communication between the hotel staff and the spa team was unprofessional and disappointing. At 3 PM, I checked back at the reception, but my room was still not ready. I waited patiently, but by 4 PM, there was still no update. Despite checking more than 10 times, I was given no clear answers or estimated time for the room’s availability. Ines repeatedly stated that she was not in charge of housekeeping and couldn’t provide any updates. This response was extremely unhelpful—surely, a five-star hotel should have staff capable of handling such basic inquiries. As the wait dragged on, I also asked Emma and Laura, but they, too, claimed not to know anything and asked me came back to check later. It became clear that the hotel staff were either poorly trained or simply unwilling to assist guests properly. Finally, at 6 PM, I went to check once again—only to find that my room was ready but no one had informed me. This lack of communication was unacceptable. To make matters worse, upon checking in, I noticed that my reservation had disappeared from my Marriott Bonvoy app. When I asked about it, Ines once again had no answers, while another staff member vaguely suggested that the app might be updating. It wasn’t until checkout that I discovered the hotel had incorrectly registered my name, which resulted in my booking being completely removed from the system. Given that I had provided my passport at check-in, this was an inexcusable mistake. It gave me unnecessary trouble to claim back my missing nights at Marriot Bonvoy apps. On top of all these issues, the level of service I received did not match the price I paid. For a hotel that markets itself as a five-star luxury experience, I expected far better service, proper communication, and a seamless check-in process. Instead, I encountered poorly trained staff, mismanagement, and a complete lack of professionalism. Overall, the reception staff were poorly trained and lacked the professionalism expected at a luxury five-star hotel. From the disorganized check-in process to the miscommunication about the spa facilities, and the inability to handle basic guest inquiries, the experience was deeply disappointing. I had high expectations based on reviews, but this stay fell far below what a hotel of this caliber should offer.

Could have been better

We are a Marriott-staying family. We arrived to a pleasant employee at check in and were checked in and escorted to our rooms immediately. The hotel is nice, clean and in a good area. What we didn't like... the hotel seemed to "nickle and dime" for everything! In all my years of staying in hotels, I've never seen the hotel charge for coffee in the room. We also had the unpleasant surprise that Switzerland needs its own electrical adapter (which we didn't have), but we could pay $13 to use the one in the hotel room. For a $650+ per night room, throw in the adapter and coffee. We booked two rooms (4 people) and were given two complimentary breakfasts (due to Marriott status). I will never understand that. Why not throw in the other two for your loyal customers? The bathroom was nice with all needed amenities. The exit from the bathtub is treacherous though. This was a nice place to stay but left an ick feeling for charging for everything. Bring walking shoes, the city is very walkable!

Beautiful Property But Disappointing Check-In Experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Traveling as a family, so we needed two rooms. I booked them well in advance, however when we arrived at the hotel at 4 in the afternoon, neither room was ready and we were told our rooms would be on separate floors. We were offered free drinks at the bar... Finally, at 5:30, one of the rooms was ready and I left my contact information for notification when the other room would be available. No call or anything. When we came back after dinner at 7:30p, I checked at the front desk and got the other key - no explanation for no call or update. No big deal, just very surprising. The whole aura of the hotel seemed a little uppity, and I get that it has a couple of really nice restaurants in there, but it didn't feel very hospitable for a Marriott property. While the hotel and the rooms are luxury nice, if in the area, I would probably choose another option. There are other Marriott's in better parts of Geneva, too. Having spent 50+ nights in Marriott hotels in business travel this past year, this one was probably the low point, unfortunately.

CERN visit.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

Stayed at here at Easter while visiting friends at CERN. Huge room, really comfy bed, well stocked mini bar. Concierge was excellent. Spent a bit more on this hotel than I normally do when in Geneva but it was well worth it. Never had time to visit the spa and ate out with friends every day so other than the excellent breakfast I never got to visit the restaurants either. Location is excellent, I think my room was used as Tremayne's office in The Champions. (See Youtube). Really good for transport links, seems about 1 minute from everything. If I'm in Geneva again I'll probably stay again.

Awful

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

This is a run-down, cheaply operated hotel. The rooms are small, bathrooms are tiny (and good luck not breaking your neck getting out of the tub shower), walls are thin (you can hear your neighbor's TV loud and clear), carpeting is 50 years old and stinky, furniture upholstery just as old and stained, bedding lumpy and thin, towels used to be white. Bonvoy thinks that by claiming this hotel as "luxury collection" it will fool people into thinking that it is; 5-star is a stretch. And, by the way, Bonvoy Titanium upgrades at this hotel are miserly compared to other properties. I would not recommend.
