Reviews for Marlfield House Hotel

Fabulous place where everything was excellent

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Just last weekend, we indulged ourselves with a weekend at Marlfield House. We like to stay in nice places, and make no mistake Marlfield house is very, very nice! Check in was very smooth and seamless and we were offered complimentary prosecco which was a nice touch and actually very nice prosecco! After dropping our bags in the room, which was really nicely appointed and very comfortable. It didn't take us long to find our way to the bar where we enjoyed the prosecco before going to the Duck restaurant for what turned out to be the first of two fabulous evening meals. On Friday night I had Risotto of Leeks and seafood to start. The Minister for Happiness had Shredded Confit Five Spice Duck Salad. These tasty dishes were followed by Wild Wicklow Venison Tagine, for me and also a Creamy Seafood Rigatoni Pasta dish. It's very hard to say who made the better call! We washed these down with a very nice New Zealand Sauvingon Blanc. The weather was terrible, which of course is no fault of the venue, but it was a great excuse to indulge ourselves with Afternoon Tea. Unsurprisingly this was an excellent experience too! The Risotto of Leeks and seafood was so good that I had it again on the Saturday night!! Herself started with Sriracha Prawn and Chorizo salad, again both excellent. On saturday the main courses we selected were the Kilmore Quay Haddock and the Seared Rump of Slaney Lamb. As in now the pattern for this review, all dishes were excellent, very tasty and just the right amount of food. On Saturday an excellent Albarino was the vino of choice! Both nights, we sashayed our way back to the bar where we enjoyed generous selections from the drinks menus. I do recommend the house cocktails as they were inventive and very tasty. I would like to especially call out the wonderful people who looked after us so well! The service was genuine, professional, friendly and discrete. It's the little things, such as, on the Saturday, being welcomed back to the Breakfast room, The Duck Restaurant and The Bar. We were made to feel special. I have no "constructive" comments to share! I thought the decor was spectacular and clearly very well maintained. The place was immaculate. I can only imagine how nice Marlfield house must be when the weather Gods are being kind! I certainly intend to find out!!

WE GREATLY ENJOYED OUR STAY @ THIS GREAT VENUE & HOPE TO RETURN...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

It took us a few years to get to stay here : my Son had warmly recommended it + had given us "Blue Book" vouchers, but problems as regards opening days for a time frustrated our wish to book a 3 Night D/B/B visit - we were glad we persisted with our patient efforts to get a booking. This is a truly lovely venue, within a close driving distance of Dublin - the main House is very impressive, on well-maintained grounds. We were extremely well-received by a wonderful staff member called Dawn Q, who, for the duration of our stay was absolutely superb in her kind, warm and patient attention. Our Bedroom was excellent. We had booked a mix of Dining experiences, rotating between the more elaborate "Conservatory" and the less formal "Duck" : we were actually quite disappointed with the former. Breakfast in "The Conservatory" wasn't at all as requested, despite requests to not "over-cook" sausages & bacon, but the service was warm & attentive, while having to apologise for the Kitchen's poor performance, even when a Plate was sent back. This is a Family owned/run venue. The current generation of Sisters, while clearly wishing to sustain the high standards set by their Mother, do not readily engage with Guests, but are OK when you address them. We hope to come back : Thank-you Dawn !

An exceptional experience for my father's 80th

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We recently stayed in Marlfield House to celebrate my father's 80th birthday. I really cannot recommend the location enough for the following reasons: The staff were all exceptional, Dawn at reception was amazing, polite, friendly and so efficient. Philip in the bar was courteous, gracious and nothing was a problem. Paul and all the waiting staff that looked after us at the meal were brilliant and again nothing was a problem and served the food with ceremony & professionalism which added class & charm to the occasion. The bedroom was out of this world and for a large, old house it was cozy and warm. The bed was extremely comfortable and it was all spotlessly clean. The reception areas were also fantastic - there was plenty of room to sit and chat and for larger numbers of us to gather and raise a toast to my dad. Finally, the food at lunch, dinner and breakfast was exceptional. Fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. It was a 5 star experience all round and both our family and my dad had a celebration to remember. Many, many thanks to all the team at Marlfield House. Happy Christmas and a peaceful 2025 Lindsay Delahunty

Relais & Chateau never disappoint

Lovely stay in the main house, very relaxed atmosphere, beautiful furnishings and resident pets which add to the ambiance of the place. The breakfast was excellent. It is a very peaceful place to stay and we would love to go back and stay at one of the lodges round the lake.

Simply paradise

This is my second stay in as many months. It is simply a stunning hotel, oldly worldly in the best possible way. The grounds are beautiful and you instantly feel calm as you walk in the door. The food is five star, every morsel is exquisite from a casual lunch to an outstanding dinner to a sumptuous breakfast. Service is impeccable. Special shout out to Dawn. Manager, who is a powerhouse and is a true asset to this hotel! We have booked again for Jan, 2025.
