Stranded on island oasis with ocean swells that rise with the tide, Alila Villas Hadahaa is a rapturous Maldives retreat situated in the North Huvadhoo Atoll. The visionaries of this eco-friendly resort raised the bar by preserving the surrounding vegetation, using natural timber and leaving as little environmental footprint as possible - making Alila Villas Hadahaa the first Maldivian resort to comply with the Green Globe standards. When it comes to the 50 exquisite villas, the lines are blurred between interiors and exteriors by uniting the two in design, with the ocean lapping up to the edge of your private deck. Additional appointments such as private pools, living areas and personal gardens complete the picture.

We spent our 1st anniversary on this lovely vibrant Island for 4 nights. It’s unbeatable for its spots for snorkeling. The sunset view from our over water villa, the galaxy and star gazing…so many more things that can’t be described in words. Special thanks to Sherry Yu for her hospitality and great guest services! 😊😊

The best holiday in the Maldives so far. Excellent food in all restaurants, perfect wellness, wonderful snorkeling right on the island, our beach family villa with pool was nicely and purposefully furnished. The resort will take care of the perfect organization of everything necessary. It's a bit more travel to the resort, but you'll experience a speedboat adventure and you're close to the equator!

Outstanding service!!! We travelled all over the world to 110 countries and stayed at many hotels and resorts, but the service was never as breathtaking as in Park Hyatt Maldives. The team is fulfilling your wishes before you even can express it. Thank you for an unforge time. We thank especially Hassan Shamin and Avinish. Sven & Silvia

We just returned from seven nights at Park Hyatt. This is an absolutely gorgeous, very serene island with one of the friendliest staffs I’ve ever met. The beach in front of The Bar is out of this world beautiful and several mornings there were small, black starfish washing up on the shore there. There were also fruit bats, lizards, and shore birds. Most importantly for me, the snorkeling lived up to its reputation. Although there was quite a bit of waves the first day and we were forbidden to enter the water the last two days due to wind/waves, the circuit along the edge of the overwaters and from the overwaters to the arrival jetty is stunning and not difficult to snorkel or access. PHH has some of the best corals I’ve encountered in the Maldives, along with some very nice fish soup. There was decent and very easy snorkeling from the shore in front of the The Bar as well. I did not see rays or turtles, but there were always sharks (black tip, white tip). The visibility, even after some torrential overnight rain, was perfect. They very much deserve their reputation as having one of the best house reefs in the Maldives. The people who work at PHH are out of this world nice. The dive shop went above and beyond by charging my GoPro batteries for me (they simply would not charge in the room, although my other non-laptop electronics mostly worked—the plugs/outlets are very old). Sangita in the bar would make us special smoothies and was always a ray of sunshine. Hamzan, in The Dining Room, was the most cheerful, funny, efficient waiter. Bek and Arnish were also outstanding—Arnish is apparently the sommelier and makes up cocktails. He made us a special molecular mimosa with yuzu that was out of this world. Our housekeeper, Subhankar, was also much appreciated. In addition to being super friendly and thorough, he also noticed what we used/needed and took care of things before we could even ask: more towels, more water, a laundry bag whisked off for cleaning when we left it sitting on the counter, turndown treats delivered before our extremely early bedtimes. I only wish I knew the name of the room service waiter too from our first night—we ordered room service, being jet lagged and exhausted, and he not only set it up outside for us but also took it upon himself unasked to move our patio table and chairs out of the dark side corner and into the center of the deck so we could watch the sun set as we ate. Our island host Niso was always available on WhatsApp. Everyone we passed said hello, and the buggies were always stopping to ask if we wanted a lift. We had overwater villa 44. This was a super quiet location with gorgeous views from the deck and easy access to the drop off for snorkeling. Nothing could beat lounging on the huge outdoor bed, watching the fish life swim by underneath. I was pleasantly surprised that we never, not once, heard noise from the buggies on the walkway or from Koi. Very occasionally we heard a next-door neighbor (most yelling for their kids to come look at the turtle—very understandable!). The bungalow was surprisingly light and bright, despite all the dark wood. The toilet and shower have sunlights in the ceilings, too. I was astounded at how well the wifi worked—usually when I’m way out on the pontoon, it’s understandably not great—but it worked extremely well everywhere at PHH. People have commented on how you feel like you’re on a private island even when the occupancy is actually quite high, and I concur. Except at sunset (when everyone popped out to admire the view), we were often the only ones wandering up or down the beach at any given moment. There was almost no one at the main pool and we never saw anyone at the spa pool. It was quiet and private—exactly what we love! The food was outstanding. We absolutely loved the breakfast spread. In addition to the a la carte offerings (and they invited you to pick TWO dishes), there was a really fun buffet that changed daily. Whoever does their pastries is a genius—the pastry person made a different flavor German krapfen and stuffed croissant every day. There were simple syrups for flavoring cold brew coffees, a brilliant selection of cheeses and fruits, and all sorts of interesting Asian dishes to try. As it was Chinese Golden Week, PHH did a Chinese breakfast one morning and a Chinese buffet one evening—we really enjoyed these. The seafood buffet was not to our taste, but if you want to eat your weight in fresh grilled lobster and shellfish, this is for you (we would have preferred more vegetables to be honest). The beignets at Island Grill rival the rosemary creme brûlée at The Dining Room for one of the best things I have ever eaten. It was also truly delightful to curl up on a swing chair in The Bar and have reef popcorn fish and chicken tacos while we worked our way through the mocktail menu and Sangita’s special smoothies. Overall, it was an outstanding trip to a beautiful place. There are, indeed, a few gotchas with the overwater villas. First of all, as previous guests have noted, quite correctly, it can get VERY hot inside the bungalow in the afternoon when the sun pours through the windows. The hotel’s solution is a set of heavy wooden doors you can pull shut in the main room, but then you’re essentially sitting in a dark box. The bathroom has lighter, automated shades that allow you to see out some—it would be lovely if these were also available in the bedroom. We chose to be slightly hot in order not to sacrifice the view. Secondly, we had some quite bad weather and extremely high wind for our last two nights; unfortunately, the beautiful windows are not watertight and we had some flooding. Fortunately, Subhankar proactively popped by in the middle of the storm with extra towels to buttress the windows and stop the leaking. Thirdly, the tub is useless. It takes well over an hour to fill it up (and more like 90 minutes). Even if you get it filled, it will be at best tepid, and at worst cold (it seems to be dependent on how many other people are trying to use hot water). The head of housekeeping offered to have our housekeeper start the bath for us while we were at dinner, but there was no point in sitting in a tepid bath, so we passed. I wish resorts would stop putting in these monster stone tubs that are so huge and impossible to fill up—just go with the nice, white standalone tubs that are in all the beach villas please! And oh the dreaded domestic transfer… I knew, going in, that domestic transfers can be relatively quick—or take hours. We’d done one in Summer 2024 to a resort in Baa that required a three-hour wait in Male going in and then perfectly aligned our return domestic flight with our international flight. This time, I had no such luck. There was over a 4.5 hour wait when I arrived in Male followed by the hour-plus-long flight and the 30-minute boat transfer to the airport. It was 7.5 hours from when we landed in Male to when we reached our villa at Park Hyatt. On the way back, it was 8.5 hours from when we left the resort to when our international flight left. I knew it was a gamble, I took it, and I lost. If you choose to visit PHH, consider carefully your tolerance for the added travel time. It is out of the resort's control and you may be lucky--or you may not be. Would I go back? I really, really would love to. I just need to figure out how to better time the domestic transfer and/or at least end my trip within speedboat distance of Male airport. PHH is a beautiful gem with world class snorkeling and its team has so much heart.

This was our third stay on the island and we cannot wait to return. The weather was perfect (despite being "low season") and, as usual, the island feels like a private unpopulated island even when the majority of the units are occupied. My favorite thing to do is to put on my snorkel and simply swim a lap around the island. It takes a couple of hours but the reef is excellent and it truly gives a sense of perspective. Also as usual, the highlight here is the staff. They are like family. Our son is 3 (we came before when he was 22 months old) and being here is like having 20 of your favorite uncles and aunties doting on your kid. We cannot wait to return.
