Located between Altstadt and HafenCity on Nikolaifleet, one of Hamburg’s oldest canals, Sir Nikolai is an original ‘Kontorhaus’ warehouse, creatively transformed into a stunning luxury hotel. Sir Nikolai’s rooms range from compact Boutique rooms, which are luxe enough with their Marshall sound systems, on up through increasingly spacious Supremes and Suites and culminating in the Residence. The Hotel’s restaurant, Izakaya presents modern Japanese cuisine with South American influences – it’s an outstanding shared-dining concept that will suit the cosmopolitan nature of Hamburg.

I want to share my negative experience with The Nikolai Hamburg hotel. First, I must admit the initial mistake was mine—I accidentally booked for January instead of December. Unfortunately, I only realized the error after my partner and I had already arrived in Hamburg. We decided to go to the hotel anyway, and that’s where the first issue arose: it was a Sunday. For some reason, the hotel’s management doesn’t work on Sundays or holidays. Yes, in 2024, this still happens. This means if you arrive on a Sunday and encounter any problems, you’ll have to wait until the next business day because the decision-makers are off. The reception staff, while polite and welcoming, had no authority to resolve anything. Realizing the situation was hopeless, we booked a stay at another hotel in Hamburg. Even though the mistake was mine, we decided to request at least a partial refund since there was still a full month before our original booking date. The hotel could have easily rebooked the rooms and earned the same revenue from other guests. However, after the holidays (because they also don’t handle such matters during holidays), I received a response stating that no refund would be issued and that the mistake was entirely my responsibility. I expected more from a hotel that claims to uphold high standards and good reputation. In my opinion, a truly respectable hotel should demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to accommodate its guests in such situations. The hotel’s management left me deeply disappointed.

Comfortable Hotel with professional service close to central tourist attractions such as the model railway (miniature wonderland) and culture (Elbphilarmonie). Not terribly close to the S or U bahn transport Excellent breakfast menu, view over the harbour

We stayed 4 nights at this property. Its simply elegant and charming. This hotel is located in a refurbished heritage building. The rooms are very unique with beautiful views of the canals. Everything is clean. the beds are massive with great pillows. Breakfast is plenty, really great presentation. I have to mention here the staff at the hotel. Everyone we spoke to is from a different country, which is very refreshing. Angela ( Breakfast) and Amal ( reception)were incredible hosts. Warm, charming and very helpful with all my questions. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a unique experience, stylish with a heritage touch.

Lovely hotel ideally situated for exploring the Aldstat, the waterfront, Miniature World and the Concert Hall. We had a well designed room overlooking the canal and we found the staff very good, friendly and helpful. Only warning is breakfast at the hotel is expensive unless you want the full works. If you are a light breakfast type go to the Cafe Mozart on the corner and save some money.

Very good option, close to the center and to the docks. The room was spacefully and elegant. The bed was really comfortanle. The only think I did not like was the bathroom whith the sink outside and no free water. Good breakfast with high variety of sweet and salty.
