Located close to downtown Hangzhou, China, Shangri-La Hotel Hangzhou stands along the north shore of West Lake. This stately hotel overlooks Solitary Hill Island and the graceful Xiling Bridge from its position amid 40 acres of rolling countryside. The Temple of Yuefe is positioned 50 yards from this property, and Hua Gang Park lies less than two miles away. Multiple restaurants and bars serve the guests of this historic hotel. Peppino encompasses the aromas and flavors of Italy, whereas the elegant Shang Palace specializes in Cantonese and Hangzhou cuisine and hosts traditional live Chinese music.

Strategically located besides West Lake, the staff more than make up for the old rustic experience. It has the grandeur of an old palace but in a very good way. Its my choice hotel despite the many choices in Hangzhou. breakfast is great and rooms are comfy.

The staffs were generally very friendly and welcoming. Whenever we walked to the restaurant for breakfast every morning, the service staff would greet us and point us to the breakfast restaurant. There is also a garden where peacocks, chickens and rabbits are kept which i suspect are for the kids. Location is good if west lake is the main reason you are here. Literally right across the hotel and there are some restaurants and convenience store nearby. The hotel is old and outdated. The handle bar beside the bathtub broke off from the wall while i was using it to lift myself out of the bathtub. It was dangerous and I could have injured myself. I reported it and the repair team came to fix the issue.

Hotel is old, but nevertheless a very comfortable stay with all requirements fulfilled! Accessibility to Xihu is a plus. The staff will impress you beyond words. From the FO manager Grace Wang, to the coffee garden breakfast staff consisting of Michelle Zhu, Gary Liang, Anny Zhao, Rita Peng, Jason Xi, Nancy Chen and Chef Cain. Their thoughtfulness and diligent efforts for details is one of the best I have experienced

This hotel was shangri la branded by combining 2 local hotels in 1984. There is currently the 1st ever renovation happening in the other wing. I am staying in the unrenovated one I don’t know about theresa may or angela merkel who stayed here, but i don’t fancy staying in a 1984 hotel not yet renovated Apart from the small tv, everything else is 38 years old. When i walk around the small room, the tv cabinet shakes. And i do dislike having to shower in a bathtub, it’s a safety hazard Plus as a Diamond golden circle member, i didn’t get a suite upgrade. They said they are full 🙄 I was planned to stay here for 7 days but my assistant and i moved to another hotel after 1 day. So i helped them release another 2 rooms since they are so full and popular The staff at the coffee garden are very good though. (But not the food quality) And Karl the GM came to say hello as well, which is a nice touch Stay at the new shangri la midtown or return after the renovation 5/10, unusual for a shangri la
