Hotel Ranga is a lovely Scandinavian hotel located in Southern Iceland, perfectly located in a vast and panoramic scenery. This hotel ideal for viewing the Northern Lights and taking in the beautiful nature of the arctic, such as Glacier Lagoon or Mount Hekla Volcano. Hotel Ranga also offers guests a unique fine dining experience as well, with culinary twists on traditionally Icelandic dishes. There is an on-site observatory and from September to April, a local astronomer guides guests through a tour of the dazzling night sky.

Meeting Fridrik, the owner, was one of the best highlights about Hotel Ranga (aside from seeing the Northern Lights). He was so friendly and generous, even shared some fermented shark and Brennivin with us! We were very grateful at the opportunity to stay here, just like to Orange County Housewives :) Great location, lovely staff, beautiful food!

One of the best hotels we have ever stayed at. Every detail is thought of. Restaurant is phenomenal, but service was a bit slow on Thursday and Sat night. Aurora wake-up call worked perfectly. Saw auroras 2 of 4 nights. Observatory closed. Close to many natural sites.

Loved every minute of our stay at the Ranga. It’s located approximately 1,5 hrs from Reykjavik, so perfect for exploring the south coast and if you want to catch the Northern Lights. Everything about this small hotel shouted generosity. As our stay progressed we became increasingly aware of features that are rarely found in most hotels now a days. The Complimentary mini bar, which was stocked with alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages was refilled every day! Bags of crisps and little chocolates were also replenished so you always felt looked after! The generous bathroom came with a jacuzzi bath and large tubs of Bath salts and salt scrub which were also refilled every day. Large bottles of Shampoo and conditioner were also provided which I often struggle finding in chain hotels! The food was really good and the extensive menu ensured that you’d not be eating the same thing every night if you were on a multi night stay as we were. The GM greeted diners and guests in person every night and graciously chatted to everyone for a few minute. A lovely tough which shows how much the guest plays a central role at this hotel. By far the most standout service of the hotel was the Aurora wake up service!! You simply asked to be notified if a sighting was possible via the touch of a button on your in room phone. We were not expecting to see the lights as we were visiting at a cloudy time. So imagine our delight, when we got THE call on two nights, which meant we could witness one of nature’s most mesmerising spectacles from the comfort of the hotel balcony! We’d have missed the Northern Lights without this feature!! In summary, I’d highly recommend for a secluded break away the hustle and bustle of the city lights and for Aurora spotting.

Very comfortable accommodations and excellent service. Unfortunately we did not see the Northern Lights during our four nights due to clouds but we greatly enjoyed exploring the many natural wonders in South Iceland. Hotel Rangá is an excellent base. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious with excellent fish as well as meat courses including reindeer steak.

This was an excellent hotel that featured a great restaurant with good food and drinks. The amenities with hot tub access; great drinks at the bar, pool table and games would be great for families and groups. The decor was nice and a wake-up call to go outside the hotel to see the Northern lights was a great feature. Thank you!
