Vietnam's vibrant Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), still often called Saigon, is an electric destination, a thriving metropolis bursting with energy. Retreat to the serenity of a Saigon luxury hotel in a quiet enclave just steps from the buzzing city centre. Sofitel Saigon Plaza is located on peaceful tree-lined Le Duan Boulevard just a moment from the citys commercial centre with its fabulous shopping dining and landmark attractions like Notre Dame Cathedral and Reunification Palace.

Excellent Sofitel - large city hotel - fabulous breakfast with excellent fruits, egg station, croissants and pastries, but also soups, noodles etc We ate club sandwich at lunch in the Boudoir cafe, which was 30 minutes in coming but was lovely to eat. Pool lost sunshine quite early in the afternoon due to other skyscrapers, so take a dip in the morning/lunchtime. Good security as needed key card to go into lift. Although not very central is easy to get into centre and there is great Czech Beer Keller about 4 minutes walk. Would recommend this hotel.

We had a one night stay before heading back to Australia. We booked a Luxury room, were Diamond members and were upgraded to a Superior Club room. It’s a little confusing how it’s an upgrade other than being close to the club level. But the room was spacious and they kindly put some toys in the room for our toddler which was really nice. Honestly just as fact since being diamond at all hotels we’ve stayed at including this one we really haven’t noticed much difference at all to how we were treated for many years as platinum for those interested knowing that. What was also nice was that with a child under 12 not allowed in the club Millésime they offered us the same benefits at the pool which I couldn’t enjoy as I’d arrived sick from our last night in Phu Quoc but it was a great touch. It’s a really nice hotel and the eating options are very good. Staff are friendly and professional. We requested a late checkout and were given to 4pm which was great. We added some more time for a fee which was ok for us. We would stay here again.

Roof top bar was awesome! Great service team Triet at the bar. Phong and Kiet on service and Vinh the chef in the kitchen! Can highly recommend. We had great food burgers, tacos and hotdog! Prompt service with a smile. The pool is an added bonus loved by our boys.

I have stayed with this hotel every time I am in HCMC since 2022. I have been a guest of the hotel for twice a year (except in 2024), and each stay is at least a week long. Needless to say how familiar I am with the hotel. However, this time round, I couldn’t help but feel that the degree of welcome has dropped. Perhaps it could be due to new management and staff - I did notice many fresh faces, except a few whom I will mention more later. During my stay of 15 days from December 2024 to January 2025, a few situations arose which caused us some unhappiness and inconvenience. Firstly, during my check-in, I asked to confirm that access to the Club Millesime was extended to me during my entire stay. Your staff at the lounge confirmed so. However, I was later informed otherwise and access was denied for the last week of my stay. In any case, the Club Millesime was no big deal. The breakfast menu was limited and dwarfed significantly when compared to the generous spread offered at the Mezz. Juices served at the Club Millesime were bottled juices, not fresh, apart from the orange juice. Tea time selection was also limited and uninteresting. Almost the same pastries, bread and limited fruits are served. If one has been to the Club Millesime three days in a row, you would have tasted everything they serve for the entire week. I do not consume alcohol and cannot comment on the Happy Hour during the evenings. There were two occasions when we were in the Club Millesime and it became too rowdy. There were groups of guests who spoke too loudly. We noticed other guests had to leave due to the noise. Staff should do something about the noise level during the afternoons. Some guests go to the Club Millesime to read. So yes, I was misinformed about access to the Club Millesime. Secondly, the AC in our room was faulty, causing me to lose sleep. I reported the situation and thankfully, the duty manager arranged for someone to fix the issue while we were out. We did receive a fruit platter as an apology for the inconvenience and discomfort. Thirdly, there was a day when we decided to stay indoors but the cable channels were almost all unavailable. I reported the incident and the hotel sent two staff to check. We had to go without cable channels for 5 hours. This happened during the week we did not have access to Club Millesime. By the time the channels were reinstated, it was 3.30 pm. Fourthly, being a 5-star hotel and charging that kind of room rates, the hotel doesn’t even offer complimentary laundry. I had the opportunity to stay at another 5-star hotel in HCMC earlier in 2024 which offered guests staying at similar room category 2 pieces of laundry done free of charge, per day. That is very thoughtful especially for guests who are traveling for business. When we wanted to do some laundry, we realized the astronomical prices Sofitel Saigon Plaza charges for laundry services. We decided not to use the hotel’s laundry services and took our clothes to a laundry 7 minutes walk away. Service is good, our clothes came back clean and smelling fresh. Just to give you an idea, the price charged by the laundry outside the hotel for 4 polo tops and 2 pairs of jeans/pants came to less than what it would cost for the hotel to clean ONE shirt. Seriously. Lastly, there was one morning when we went to the Mezz for breakfast at approximately 9.10 am and we were greeted by staff standing outside the elevator informing us that the Mezz was full and offered to usher us to Le17 on the same floor. Even though the hotel used the adjacent restaurant space as an overflow space for breakfast, the spread is very much minimized and limited. Insisting that we had a table at the Mezz, I walked into the cafeteria and found that there were empty tables, only no one to clean them. Then one staff hurriedly ushered us to a table in an area where it was tight and claustrophobic. I was really unhappy. Seeing this, a supervisor, Van That quickly came to usher us to another table in a better lit and more spacious area. I explained to him that I had asked a day earlier if I should call to reserve a table for breakfast, the staff I spoke with told me if we went to breakfast after 9 am, there will be plenty of tables and reservation is not necessary. But after that eventful morning, Van That ensured we had a table every time we went to breakfast. It turns out that Van That remembers us as regular guests who stay long periods of time at the hotel. He remembers us and never fails to greet me by name. He also never fails to ask how everything was during our stay at the hotel. I thought the Guest Relations Manager ought to have been the one checking-in on us on our well-being. But in all the 15 days we stayed at the hotel, but the Guest Relations Manager was nowhere to be seen. Fortunately, there is Van That. He is the exact example of the welcome I was talking about earlier. I also wish to mention another exceptional staff, Trang Nguyen. She was the other staff who remembers us and never fails to greet us with her sweet smile. She helped us reserve a table for the Christmas Lunch Buffet at the Mezz as well. Her service and hospitality made us feel at home. Van That and Trang Nguyen were the two staff who stood out in making our stay comfortable and memorable. There were other staff who did well but I did not manage to get their names. I apologize. The tall lady at Mezz who wore the Ao Dai and ushers guests to their tables, the nice lady who mans the soup noodle station (she works almost every day but she will remember that we love the Bánh giò and will ask if we would like to have it each morning without fail), the doorman with neatly combed hair and spoke good English, he never fails to greet me and helped us with the door, and the housekeeping crew who made sure our room is clean, and sheets turned down in the evenings. Thank you all who made a difference by making our stay comfortable and for having made us feel at home. It is the first time I am giving the hotel a 4-star rating. Without these exceptional staff, the rating could have been lower. Despite the unpleasantries experienced during our recent stay, I would recommend this hotel to couples, business travelers, families and small groups. The hotel offers the most generous buffet spread at the Mezz and the food is made well. The hotel is located in an area in District 1 which is safe, less rowdy and close to local places of interest like the Notre Dam Cathedral, the Central Post Office, Diamond Plaza, Vincom Mall, the Nguyen Hue Walking Street, and Saigon Centre. I hope management will look into our feedback and do better as we hope to extend our continued support for the hotel.
