This is the first time we stay in this hotel. The location is great. We arrived early and room was ready for check in. How great it is. Thank you Carman Yeung for your kind arrangement.

We stayed here for three nights as part of my birthday celebrations. The hotel has a grand entrance and lobby and the hotel staff were helpful and assisted us to pay for the airport taxi as we didn’t have any cash so the charge was added to our final hotel bill. On arrival we were informed that there were no double rooms available despite requesting a double room however two twin beds were moved together to make a double which was fine. The room was fairly small on the 8th floor but had all necessary amenities. The highlight of the stay here was the buffet breakfast which was one of the best we’ve ever had. There was a huge selection and all really high quality. The Portuguese tarts were divine! The hotel has an outdoor rooftop pool however we couldn’t use this on one of the days as it was closed due to the typhoon. Overall a great stay and we would definitely return.

The Intercontinental brand is to a large degree a hit-and-miss with most properties being good, a few outstanding and some being just decent. The Stanford in Hong Kong is unfortunately barely hitting the decent button, with a few bright spots. The check-in was without much ado, with an upgrade to a top floor room, but the same category as booked. The recognition of status (ambassador Platinum) was generally poor - maybe at this point there are too many with status? The clerk was polite enough, but not a smile in sight. In the room was a plate with four pieces of (rather bad) fruit and a bottle of water waiting. Being a Hilton Diamond I’ve seen welcome baskets, whine and fine chocolates - but again it seems that recognition at IHG is just below par. I’ll hit the top level tier with this stay, so that may help - though I’m not getting my hopes up at this point. The room itself is okay, although the view is from a rather small window. Wall to wall carpet should really be a thing of the past at this point, but the rest of the decor is decent without any frills. The aircon is slightly noisy, but can be turned down to a reasonable level. In summertime it may be an issue, though. The gym is small and if there are more than two people at the same time it feels cramped. The equipment is poorly balanced, with too much space taken up by machines no-one uses. The pool is small, so not really for swimming. However the space itself is kind of cosy and during our stay hasn’t been crowded. Having a club membership gives access to the Intercontinental club which is at the moment being renovated, so it’s instead in a corner of the hotel restaurant, which is a fair solution. The breakfast is decent without being outstanding in any way. The high tea and evening cocktail time sees a lot of repetition, but is fairly good quality. Service here varies, but in the evening time the waiters seems a bit more service minded and there’s even been a few smiles here and there. During our stay I had a birthday. I’ve had quite a few birthdays at hotels and have always been recognised with everything from a bottle of wine to something resembling a birthday party at the Hilton Maldives last year - with gifts, Champagne, a birthday card and room decoration as well as special food in the restaurant. Usually it’s been a card and a bottle of wine or something in that order. At the IC…? Nothing. Not even a card. I don’t really expect them to bring out something extravagant, but when you choose to spend a special day at a hotel, it would seem the polite thing to do to at least leave a card in the room, congratulating. Overall, the service is not really five star, and I’ve been treated better at a Holiday inn in Germany. Even though I wasn’t expecting the Stanford to be luxurious as such, I did expect it to live up to the IC brand of a level of service that would at least include a recognition of status and a smile here and there. All in all it’s been a disappointing stay in an average hotel.

My family and I went on a 10-day stay at Intercontinental Grand Stanford and I’d say we were lucky enough to have booked our stay with Intercontinental Grand Stanford, the room was kept clean at all times, all of the complimentary water and coffee/tea were replenished every time they cleaned the room, everything was basically flawless! The breakfast at Cafe on M wasn’t only what we expected from a five-star hotel, it went above and beyond what we expected! A special thanks as well to Thomas Biju who was very friendly and extremely helpful whenever we needed him!
