Nowhere else but The Modern Honolulu can you find such a dynamic combination of laid-back beach life and cosmopolitan excitement. It’s two minutes from the beach – including prime surf spots where locals flock – and walking distance to downtown Honolulu’s galleries and luxury shopping scene. Explore Honolulu’s bars and street food (don’t miss the roadside shrimp trucks), but don’t stray far from the hotel – Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s fine dining concept constantly wins Hawaii’s top accolades, and at night, celeb DJs turn Addiction into a club straight out of South Beach.

The list of things that are SO WRONG about this property are appalling. Hilton should be ashamed of itself for being associated with this place. What's baffling is that this is marketed as an upscale property. But in so many ways, the place felt run down, dated, poorly maintained and certainly not up to any remotely luxury standard. Any attractiveness to the property is superficial. Looks nice in the photos and some of the public spaces. But the rooms are really not nice at all. And this is definitely not somewhere you will want to stay for any length of time. It's not really meant for longer stays. Here is a list of notes I took while staying there for six nights: No ramp up to the lobby. Have to haul luggage up a flight of stairs between driveway and lobby. Thank goodness for doormen/ bellmen who hauled luggage up the flight of steps for us. There is a lift on the side of the driveway for those who can't negotiate stairs. Our room was five doors down from the elevator banks but can hear the sound of elevators whooshing up and down 24/ 7 Windows are not well insulated for noise – can hear outdoor sounds 24/ 7 Elevators have wall covers peeling No laundry facilities. The nearest place to do laundry is down the block and across the street. No umbrellas for guests – heaving rain/ flood warnings/ storm conditions on Thursday, January 30, 2025. Flooding in the open areas and no way for guests to not get completely soaked...unless you chose to stay indoors for most of the day. What hotel being marketed of this caliber doesn't provide umbrellas to guests?? Black out drapes only. Half of them off their hooks. We had maintenance come to re-install drapes off their hooks but they are so flimsy that a few days later it was back to the same condition. Cheap product and bad design. Strange configuration of window covers – a sliding louvered wood door/ panel so you never get 100% view out of the window. Window always at least 50% obscured by these doors Windows to a partial ocean view were absolutely filthy thus obscuring what little view you could get with louvered sliding doors obstructing 50% of the view at any given time. What is the point of having an "ocean view"? And don't be fooled -- the "ocean view" is in a very very few number of rooms and mostly only if you strain your neck to see a sliver of blue. Most of the rooms on both sides of the hotel (West facing AND East facing) are obstructed by other buildings that are quite close to you....so this means lousy views and limited privacy. Louvers on these wooden sliding doors were loose and incapable of being tightened. Probably from much use, they “relaxed” in semi-open position. Reported this as a maintenance issue. Maintenance staff said they came to address the problem but it wasn't fixed. Had to jerry-rig with a wad of paper to keep louvers in desired positions. Again, so stupid design so controlling light, privacy and enjoyment of the view was futile. Beds on abnormally low wooden platforms with sharp, exposed corners. No drawers in the room -- only open shelves Faucets in bathroom -- both sink and shower -- were extremely tight and difficult to adjust. Odd fixtures and not easy to operate. Broke a few fingernails in the process. This property is not really meant for long-term stays. The room amenities were cheap and minimal. Only disposable beverage containers. Some paper cups (for coffee or hot beverages) and plastic cups (for non-hot beverages). No utensils or dishware of any kind are provided. In a double room (two beds) but only one desk chair and one lounge chair – shouldn’t there be at least two chairs? Bathroom has limited privacy – there are louvered windows between bathroom and the main room. Light and noise seeps through Carpets stained No USB ports at bedside Six-night stay with only one night of housekeeping services offered No free breakfast for Hilton Honours guests. Only concession is 50% off SECOND breakfast entrée! Guest parking expires at 10 am even if we are not checking out. Drove in around 5.30 pm. Shouldn’t guest parking be 24 hours? Requested 24 hours and was told that the best they could do is until 1 pm. This is a rip off Well, you get the picture. It's not a very nice place to stay -- and most certainly not for the rates they are charging!

Location- good Staff- most were friendly Furniture was IKEA quality. Mattress on a platform that sticks out enough to injure an ankle. The bathroom had wooden louvers to the bedroom that diminished any kind of privacy. The curtain wouldn’t completely close. The mini fridge was warm. When they replaced it, a liquid leaked out and stained the carpet. The safe kept locking us out and we had to call security 5 times. The keys to room and parking garage kept deactivating and had to be replaced 3 times in three days. The halls were dimly lit and had a creepy vibe. The air conditioning in the room blows on your face when lying in bed. The elevator was down the hall but you could hear the wind whooshing through it every time someone used it. The walls ate paper thin and we could hear everything in the next room. One evening, I took a walk and bought an ice cream. I arrived back to the hotel and decided to finish it outside by the pool. An attendant came up to me and said I had to leave because any outside food was a health code violation. I respect that they don’t want outside food, but don’t lie to me. I called the health department the next day and they said there is no such code. A very disappointing stay. I don’t recommend you spend your hard earned money there

The Hilton Modern is a timeshare property formerly belonging to Bluegreen Vacation Club acquired by HGV in 2021. It is currently being renovated from standard hotel units to full 1 BR, 1 Bath , Full Kitchen units by connecting two rooms. I was assigned to a spacious 1 BR end unit (#411) with a living room but no kitchen. There was a small microwave and fridge in the living room under the TV but no water or sink other than in the bathroom. We ate out most of the time except for breakfast. ABC and McDonalds were across the street and IHOP was just down the street anyway. The unit was adequate with a great ocean view overlooking the marina and the adjacent Hilton Hawaiian Village lagoon where there are fireworks on Friday nights. A short walk down the ramp from the 2nd floor pool takes you right there. The property is conveniently located right on Ala Moana Blvd a short walk to the shopping center or to the Waikiki beach area. What I like best is the public bus (#20 or #42) stop minutes away on the corner travelling east to Waikiki beach and Diamond Head or west to Pearl Harbor Arizona Memorial, the Aloha stadium swap meet, Ioalani Palace and especially Costco (Hawaiian snacks) all for $1.25 per ride with a Medicare card.

Started off amazing with the best check in service from Courtney. The room is standard, and no complaints at all. Housekeeping did a great job everyday. For some reason there was always a shortage of towels at the pool. Had to go back to our room, get room towels. Asked reception if they could provide towels from housekeeping and were always told, they had ran out... weird to me! Cant fault the pool bar, menu and staff. Loved happy hour and our server Nikki was a total gem!

The property location and staff are perfect. However not meant for families, the rooms have ridiculously small beds, double at best. The bathrooms have wood blinds between the bath and room so kids can see into bathroom if you're in the shower! What.. no lock on bathroom door. I don't mind the older redone room or the noise level from outside all night but the bathroom makes this a never again with 4 people.
