Reviews for Henry's Fork Lodge

For ever spoiled...

During our 2023 fly fishing trip we stayed at 3 premium fly fishing lodges (North Fork Crossing, Henry's Fork and Ruby's). This was our favorite. This lodge stands apart in each element of location for fishing, hospitality, gastronomy, atmosphere and comfort. Nelson, his sister and his team have thought about everything... from the fine French Jacquard napkins, the insanely plush bath towels, the exquisite duvet and bed linens, down to the ribbon on your cookie bag - I am not kidding, you will want to keep it and tie it on your gear! The food is incredible. The team of chef and pastry chef will offer you morning scones to make the brits blush and a evening menu that is really hard to pick from - especially since it changes every day. After a generous and flavourful apero with your selection of wine, you have a choice from 3 appetizers, 3 main courses and 3 deserts. Their house wine list is well limited but well balanced, and most of the guests bring their own bottles which the kitchen will set to the perfect temperature for your. It is not uncommon to see the finest french bottles around: the food is well worthy of your favorite Pouligny Montrachet... The staff is attentive and extremely helpful in making sure everything is up to your expectations. The setup is such that it is very easy to either mingle with other guests or keep more private as you wish. With regards to fly fishing, the river is generous and the average fish larger than at other locations. I recommend you book directly with Jamie, the lodge manager and ask him about local guides - the best in my opinion are from Big Sky Anglers... This place sets such a high standard that it can only be compared to a few of the finest small private hotels of Europe.

Great setting, view, and food -- but a lot of money for an OK room and meh fishing

Things to like: - The view / setting, over the river. Beautiful. - The food, limited choice but outstanding. Goes with the turf in a small restaurant if you want fresh ingredients. - The staff / service. People are very nice. Service is excellent. Jamie was great as were many others. - The patio and two main rooms in the lodge -- great places to have a drink and a chat. - The clientelle. Everyone we met was really nice. Things not to like: - The price. I think we paid $750/person/night for two people in one room -- without angling (that was $700/day on top to a third-party guide service) - The tip. They suggest a tip on the package that includes only lodging and food. Ours, on a 4-night stay, was $900. I know some fishing lodges do this and it may be bult into the staff compensation model but I don't generally tip 15%+ on hotel nights. - The furniture -- the patio chairs were a little tight for a big guy and kinda cheap looking. The dinning room furniture was old, a bit flimsy, and uncomfortable. The furniture in the room was just OK. And for $1500 a night, I'd expect more. - The fishing. It was poor (first week of June). 3 days with 2 different guides and I caught a total of 3 trout. My buddy did better, maybe getting 8. All that said, while this wasn't our cup of tea, it might be yours. I'd recommend coming if you want the setting, the food, and the upscale clientelle. For example, I'd say this is an excellent choice if you're looking for a nice fishing lodge to bring your spouse, as many people did. There's no gruff to it, the setting is amazing, it's quiet, and the food is great. For two fishing buddies, we'd probably have been better off letting our hair down as a less fancy lodge with a bar and TV to watch the Stanley Cup.

Henry's Fork Lodge is a great place to stay! Our cabin had a bedroom, bath with a walk in shower, and a living room with a wood burning fireplace. They help you arrange guided fishing if desired (do this ahead of time ). Everyone who works there is very friendly and happy. The food is truely amazing, and included in the room charge.

We stayed two nights here, booked at last minute. What a fantastic spot. Staff is great, as are owners Nelson and his sister Patsy. We also met some really nice people. We will be back with our family.

Gem on the Snake River

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed September 8, 2020

I cannot say enough about this Lodge. From the moment we arrived everyone was attentive and accommodating! The lodge is located on the Henry's Fork of the Snake River and is very peaceful. There are many areas to sit and relax. There are rooms in the lodge and there are 2 buildings which also have rooms with sitting areas and fireplaces. The food was amazing! Breakfast was anything we desired (they make their own granola), lunch was to go and dinner consisted of a choice of 3 appetizers, 3 entrees and 3 desserts. Everything we ate was delicious and expertly prepared. We were there for 4 nights and could have stayed longer for the food. They have a decent wine and beer list. The lodge mainly caters to fly fishing persons and some river activities. Don't expect a dynamic town nearby, there isn't one. We would go back in a second. Well worth the price (did not come cheap). Quality everywhere! All the staff was friendly and always asking what they could get us. Definitely made our trip!
