To sit in the beautiful room overlooking the mountains and the deer herd was simply magical. It was raining but we still enjoyed just watching the deer. Bed was comfy and room was quiet (we were in a room upstairs in the main lodge). We appreciated the complementary wine, snacks and drinks. But the real hero is the chef. Our dinner was OUTSTANDING - a real culinary masterpiece. And I’m not a big breakfast enthusiast but the egg/hummus/toast combo ranks as one of my fave breakfasts ever. We hope to come back!

This is pure luxury, such a beautiful location and the interior design and architecture was lovely. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The dining experience and food was very good. Unfortunately, we were only staying for one night and wish we had stayed longer to take advantage of all the great facilities.

This is an A++ boutique lodge. We stayed for 3 nights in Treehouse #5. The treehouse accommodations were of the highest quality. Great views. Unique experience. Very comfortable and modern. Top-notch all around. Breakfast and dinner were included. The food was outstanding. Each dish was expertly presented, creative and the flavors exploded in your mouth. For dinner each night had a different menu. The dining experience is what I have come to expect from highly rated/reputable/renowned restaurants. Our meals were some of the best we have had in our many travels. Service was impeccable. The grounds are beautifully landscaped. You can tell that there was a lot of thought that went into creating a quiet, beautiful and natural landscape. The land around the property is amazing with a grove of olive trees in the back and large New Zealand deer in the front. The landscaping has been designed to attract certain birds. The sounds and sights of birds were ever-present (and very soothing). Finally, all of the staff we met (at check-in, check-out, dining or just on the grounds) deserve high marks for customer service. They all had great energy, pleasant personalities, and were very attentive. You could tell they wanted you to have the best experience. Collectively, this was one of the best assembled support staff we have been exposed to in our many travels in the USA or around the world. We did not use the pool area or the SPA. But both looked first-rate. If we ever returned to the Kaikoura area, we would definitely stay here again. If you can swing the higher pricing, definitely stay in a treehouse. Thanks to Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses for delivering a very memorable experience.

We had a “wow” moment when we entered our treehouse… complete with two panoramic windows, our room was spacious and extremely well appointed with a superb attention to detail - shower & free standing bath, vast array of additional toiletries, coffee/tea making facilities with freshly baked cookies and a complimentary half bottle of wine (daily room service with fresh towels & top-up of beverages & cookies). We couldn’t quite believe the privileged scenes - the Pacific Ocean on one side, and the mountain range from the other with herds of majestic deer in the foreground. The whole site is well managed, with an olive tree plantation, and a vegetable garden with salads & herbs used in the breakfasts & dinners. There is also a swimming pool, hot tub and sauna. Hapuku Lodge & Tree Houses is roughly 15 minutes drive from Kaikoura, where there are a few shops, cafes & information centres as well as ‘the Peninsula’ where seals can be found (in season).
