In Greek mythology, the Thracians were an ancient civilization of the Balkans that favored beauty, adornment, passion, and war. Times change, but beauty, design, and passion for the peaks of luxury continue to reign supreme at Bulgaria's Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort. Situated on a rocky coastline along the western coast of the Black Sea, this expansive resort offers breathtaking views, five-star service, and a one-of-a kind golf experience for enthusiasts and beginners alike. One has to differenciate between the golf course and service at the resort. The golf course is in immaculate condition, perfect fairways and greens with a spectacular view. However the service starts here: on two occasions the breaks did not work, the roof needs to be fixed otherwise it falls, there is no water in the ball/club cleaning box. The resort: we stayed in a one bedroom suite which is well equipped, housekeeping is good, the room is clean, mold on the balcony. Unfortunately there is no other possibility to dine except in one of the three restaurants. the beach restaurant like the entire beach is filthy, the food is good if you are lucky to get it hot, the Italian restaurant is very good and the fine dining is anything than fine dining. It is discusting! There is no bar, no cafe.

We were expecting to spend a few days at the most famous resort in Bulgaria, but we were strongly disappointed. The main reason for this feeling was the personal attitude, specially at the restaurants, with very few exceptions. They refused to sit us at a certain table because we didn’t asked for that table at the moment of the reservation, even though that exact table and all the similar ones remained empty the entire evening. Also, you don’t receive many or accurate information at the check in. If it is the first time here, well good luck… The second reason was the cleaning service in the common spaces which was not made properly. The hot water doesn’t work all the time and for the heating it sometimes takes a few hours. In one of the evenings, the shuttle from the beach didn’t came to pick anyone up and we had to walk a few kilometers to get back at the resort. Exposing all those issues to the manager, he didn’t cared at all and had a very passive attitude. All he was interested in was if we are thinking of returning. No thank you :(

I went to this hotel with a bunch of friends on an annual golf tour. The hotel has a great location with an exceptional golf course attached to it. The beach restaurant is top notch. The general quality of the hotel is average, it needs maintenance. The standard is quite low. What is really missing is customer service and focus. The most shocking example was my experience upon checkout. The manager of the hotel, Mr Boër, got the message I had taken liquor from the mini-bar, which was untrue. I told him this was not the case and I needed to get to the airport urgently. They sent out two sets of people to room to check and kept me waiting for 20 mins. The conversation went sour, he basically accused me of being a lier and a possible thief, as some customers 'steal the entire mini-bar' In the end it was confirmed the liquor was still there, but a as a result I had such a bad experience I would never recommend this hotel.

My son and I took a trip there to play golf. We were not disappointed. We first learned of the resort through the YouTube series Adventures in Golf. In fact, we flew United on the way to Bulgaria and the series and the show featuring this course was available to watch for free on the plane. I am an 11 handicap, my son is a 2. We played different tee boxes. No matter what tee box you play from, you will find the course to be very challenging. And Beautiful. The first 8 holes are along the cliffs. The Black Sea is right beside you, albeit anywhere from 30 to 70 meters below. The remaining 11 hoes are a little further inland and at even higher elevations. There is not one place on the course there the view is anything less than spectacular. We met Jordon Borisov, the head golf pro the first day we were there. I took one private lesson and my son and I also took a 9 hole playing lesson. Jordon is a terrific instructor. Whether you want to have someone look at and correct correct minor things in your swing or want more serious changes Jordon is the guy. We left the property once to paly played one time at Black Sea Rama and wondered why we bothered. Thracian Cliffs was one of the most beautiful and challenging courses I have ever played. Well worth the time to travel there. I see that many people have complained about the price of the food at the resort. The breakfast buffet at the resort is superb. One of the best I have ever encountered. You name it they have it or will make it for you. Moreover all the staff were very accommodating and friendly. We did not have dinner at the resort. Instead, since we had a car, we traveled to restaurants in the little villages/towns near the resort. All the meals were excellent and you could not beat the prices. Rarely was any entree over $10 US. Beer, wine and drinks were also at unheard of prices. Simply go on Yelp. These places are not hard to find. That said, Simply go on yelp. Our 2 bedroom unit was spacious and well appointed. There was also daily maid service. Were this course in the United States it would be known as one of the top courses in the world. In Bulgaria, it remains one of the golf world's best kept secrets. Go play it. And, unless you are a scratch golfer, and maybe even if you are, bring plenty of balls.

This resort is more closed than open in May. It is set up for self catering at least partly but they hadn’t bothered to open the supermarket so it isn’t possible to self cater. You can’t buy a drink in the “Sports Bar” and there is no other bar to drink in. That leaves you with two restaurants on site which have extortionate prices and no wine by the glass so you will be paying through the nose for poor “Bulgarian” wine by the bottle. The service in the restaurants is rude and horrendously slow even though the food is fairly good. You can get a taxi to the local village but the dreadful service is equal to the resort. It took two hours to deliver a simple meal at one restaurant locally and we just walked out, it was too late to be eating. The golf course is stunning but the make shift bar on the 18th has no toilets which is bizarre. The course is so difficult it destroys the average golfer and you can expect to lose an awful lot of balls which is not my idea of fun. Overall a missed opportunity to create something special and we will not be back.
