Beach Republic stands for freedom – forming its own autonomous region of Koh Samui, the resort is 10 minutes via free shuttle from the action in Lamai, but more often than not, partygoers in Lamai make Beach Republic their destination. A swanky Beach Club buzzes day and night, and its Sunday Sessions – starting with an elaborate brunch – are renowned across the island. Rooms and villas are also self-sufficient, equipped with a kitchenette and a terrace dining area. Bright, modern décor pops with bold artwork and splashes of color, and the onsite restaurant is equally edgy: it ranked among Thailand Tatler’s Best Restaurants of 2014.

Pros: Modern style bathroom. Has a pool and tiny beach. Cons: It’s all the little things that add up to such a 3 star rating. First of all there was no luggage rack so I didn’t have to put my suitcase on the floor. As I stated at the hotel I could see where they broke holes into the wall, due to a poor paint job. Given that it can rain hard on Koh Samui, I was surprised by the lack of cover leading to the front desk and other places. I had to badger the hotel staff to make sure my laundry was brought to me on time. If I see baby roaches wondering around, it makes you wonder what other critters may be in your bed. I can keep going on and on.

Hotel is good but could be great. Rooms are bright modern and spacious, bathroom large with good shower with good water pressure. Good AC within the room. Balcony is really a great size with table and chairs. A small kitchenette with a very cold full size fridge. These are the positives about the room, however you will notice quite a few scuff marks and damp patches that could easily be fixed. The hotel has a spare key that keeps electric on all day so room is cold to walk back into, which is great after a hot day Pool is fairly small with a few beds and cabana spread around. There is a grass area with you walk across to get to pool. Some beds are showing signs of wear and tear but most umbrellas need urgent attention. There also needs to be a rethink in positioning of beds are some are in direct sunlight with not chance of shade. There is another pool onsite but this is just an eyesore at present. Hotel seems to be starting to try and rectify the problem areas but need to continue and not stop. Breakfast was acceptable for the week we spent there but again the negative is you can only have 1 tea or coffee with breakfast? How many 4.5 star resorts would do this? Overall hotel is good value for money at present but again the downside to that for me was a 4 fold increase in prices over the Xmas period so we decided to move on Hotel is about half way between Lamai and Chaweng so expect to use the local transport to reach these for some nightlife. There are some local restaurants and bars but not loads We did see quite a bit of improvements to the hotel in the week we were there hoped that continues
