About the Hotel

The contrast between the deep tropical wood enveloping the villas at Conrad Koh Samui and the bright azure sea it overlooks is striking. From this hilly vantage point, surrounded by rainforest, guests preside over the famous Five Islands of Koh Samui. In the late 1800s, Koh Samui became a refuge for fishermen, sailors and sea traders seeking shelter from storms and high seas. "Samui," some say, is derived from the Chinese word "saboey," which means "safe haven". More than a century later, the exotic fruits and idyllic weather entice visitors to relax… and stay awhile.

Great kosher stay at this top resort (with one minor suggestion)

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Just left the resort - what a fabulous visit… with one minor complaint/suggestion. Firstly I was surprised by the previous review - as were also kosher guests and experienced the exact opposite. The resort arranged daily breakfast from Chabad. They offered a new pan and separate portable gas cooking element to heat our food. They also made us salad and cut fruit that we liked (wife is a big mango fan). Minnie by the breakfast area took such great care of us and our kosher needs. Never experienced anything like this before (not in Maldives or other top resorts.) We had a two bedroom villa - and it was absolutely gorgeous. The view is to die for. Pool is huge and villa is nice and luxurious. Bathroom is one of a kind. My wife loved the spa. We all loved the pool. We took the long tail boat trip - pig island was a waste but snorkeling and the boat ride was lots of fun. Their long tail is bigger and safer than all the others (they actually brought it from the Andaman sea where water is tougher. We did the jet ski ride twice - and loved seeing the nearby islands up close. The hammock in the water during high tide is so nice! Only tried it the last day. My one complaint: they had a wedding on one of our days there - and was so disappointing the pool was closed all day for the wedding and the beach bar was also closed. We also got no notice until the night before. GM agreed was a mistake and apologized - but I saw many guests very disappointed that because of a wedding their vacation was severely compromised. Had we known a few days earlier we would have made arrangements to go on a trip. And having a bar open by beach (as pool was closed) is a must even if celebrating a wedding. Overall great stay would come back with pleasure. Highly recommended.

Superb Samui resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This is an outstanding resort with a fantastic team making it an enjoyable stay from the very start. We stayed in a few resorts around the island before ending our stay on Samui at the Conrad for 3 nights. Our groups meant several villas were needed and we were upgraded to premium ocean view locations on level 2 which made access to breakfast and the pool within walking distance. The resort is literally built on a steep hill, so if you find yourself on levels 3 or above, or at the end of some of the lanes, you will need the buggy service to get around. Even the walk from the beach to our villas was OK, but often we would ask for a buggy. There's a lot of info available on the large number of reviews, so I won't dwell on the more general topics, but do think there are some worthy mentions… The staff are excellent and many from Thailand which is consistent with the other resorts we visited on the island and makes the feel more genuine that you would perhaps see at other popular overseas resorts of this standard. The GM made the effort to greet people at breakfast which was a nice touch and we learnt a lot about the recent history of the hotel and how it survived through covid, the impact that had, and what they did to overcome those difficulties. You can see a good example of how they adapted at the hotel’s own farm called “Iris” located near the resort entrance and one of the complimentary experiences you are offered as a guest and very worthwhile booking a slot to join the daily afternoon tour. Other experiences are also recommended from how they roast coffee for the resort at Botanika, the resort’s coffee shop, to practicing your singing at their very own karaoke room (a lot of fun). I’d also recommend the beach to take the chance to try snorkelling, kayaking, and paddle-boarding made available by the fantastic beach team who went out of their way to make our group welcome and helpfully served with water, all the kit needed for the activities and chairs or loungers to relax and take in the scenery. The beach was never busy; maybe a lot of people prefer the pool or each villa’s own pool, but I’d suggest you take a trip and enjoy this peaceful corner of the resort and stroll along the promenade (or if you’re into running, use it for your morning jog as it’s the only flat bit you’ll find). In summary: I think the Conrad Koh Samui will cater for whatever you want out of your stay. If you’re ones to enjoy the well-appointed villas and just relax, then you’ll enjoy your time here. The main pool and cabanas will satisfy those wanting to mingle a bit, and as mentioned, the beach is ideal for some activity and relaxation. The resort, in a nutshell, will give you what you want out of it, and provide it to a very high standard. Thanks Conrad!

A Perfect Resort Getaway!

A wonderful stay that I would do it all over again. We would like to thank Emily, for her excellence service in ensuring the comfort of our stay. She's very pleasant, competent and gave excellent recommendation for food, driver and itinerary. Throughout our stay, from the frontdesk reception staff, to the cabby drivers and restaurant & room service staff, everyone was prompt and service-oriented. I'm an avid traveller and I have never been to a hotel with all the staff scoring a 10/10. The breakfast spread was sumptuous and delicious. In my 5 days' stay, only the first and last day breakfast was similar. I rarely encountered a hotel who has put in such great effort to ensure variety. Thanks to Emily, we were upgraded to room 315, premium ocean view villa and the room view is awesome for sunset. There were a couple of cons for the stay. The first day of arrival, there were ants crawling on one of the bedside table despite our effort to clean it. This was quickly resolved after giving our feedback to the room service the next morning. The second con was the corner of the rollaway bed frame sticking out at the narrow walkway, resulting in couple of bruises on our legs. Though I have personally feedback to Emily and she has apologised, I would like to raise it here so that the management can ensure to prevent similar incident from occurring for the next guest. Overall, I would rate it a 4.5 out 5 for the excellent stay.

Forever a special place in my heart

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Long review following. On March 30th 2019, I reached out to Conrad to discuss hosting our destination wedding initially scheduled for March 15h 2020. On May 3rd 2019, I paid the initial deposit and secured the venue. On March 17th 2024, we finally had our wedding, after dealing with Covid, plus many other personal challenges and hurdles. It finally happened after almost 5 years of waiting. Here are my thoughts on the property and their team: Location / Hardware: Conrad is located roughly an hour's drive away from Samui airport, at the southern tip of the island. The property's situated on the hilltop, therefore not so much a beach resort. Shortly after you see the hotel logo and as the car turns into their arrival pavilion, you see a fountain in the middle with a backdrop of the infinity view of the ocean, as well as five islands. Their hardware is absolutely gorgeous, very well maintained for a 13-year-old property. Incredible main infinity pool with comfortable loungers dipped in water, which is my favorite set up. My second favorite offering they have is the sunset lounge, another perfect spot to enjoy the sunset straight on, with music and decent drinks. The only thing I would point out is the lower beach, which felt to me was either a bit underdeveloped or somewhat left behind. It would be worthwhile to further develop it into a much nicer beach if possible to go along with otherwise a pretty perfect hotel. Room: My husband and I've had the privilege of being arranged to stay at the one and only Conrad Royal Suite, needless to say, the room blew our minds, and we've stayed at multiple suites in other properties around the world. We also visited the standard one-bedroom where our families and friends were staying and it was nothing short of amazing, both indoor, outdoor and the pool was beautiful, everything was of high quality, and the best thing was the yolk was right in front of their villas, every evening they were blessed with a beautiful sunset. Back to our suite, we were first shocked by how big it was, it was two stories, and the first door led us to a patio with actual greens and a panoramic sea view. The second door downstairs led us to our actual suite, most areas were covered in marble, and each section of the suite was equipped with a glass sliding door that allowed you to go straight out to the patio, you could even go straight into the incredibly humungous pool from the doors located in the bedroom and bathroom. Bath amenities were all from Byredo, which I appreciated, and the suite also came with a kitchen, a full-size dining table, and a built-in seating area inside the pool. The only downside about the suite is due to it being situated at the lowest level and to the far end corner, we weren't able to enjoy the beautiful sunset directly from our room the same way as the other standard villas. Restaurants / Food: If there's one element that this hotel is slightly lacking, it would be the variety of restaurants on site. This hotel has a Thai restaurant doubling as breakfast, a poolside restaurant, and a fine-dining steakhouse. For most, this would be a contributing factor to them limiting the number of nights spent in this hotel. The only reason it doesn't bother me as much is because, for a hotel that has villas of this calibre, I simply order room service and enjoy my villa, I don't feel the need to always go dine out every night. Food, in general, is good, nothing to write home about, they do have complimentary fresh coconut every morning at breakfast which was nice, and a complimentary mimosa station, which was also appreciated. I find their breakfast caters a little more to Asian taste, with quite a bit of selection of Asian favorites such as noodles and soup, which I liked but it would be even better if they could even it out, offer more variety of fruits, and expand their selections a bit more. Spa: The check-in level boasts yet another panoramic ocean view with the golden yolk right in front of you, I don't know which part of this resort does not bless you with perfect sunsets. Even the sauna box downstairs has a floor-to-ceiling window, I was sitting there having my sauna session while enjoying the ocean view, partial property view, and the sunset, it was quite unbelievable, and it definitely was the best sauna facility I've ever been to. Everything else with the spa is up to standards, the only minus was the service. My husband and his brother had a spa the previous day before I went and that's how I found out about the sauna facility downstairs, when we finished our treatment, we were escorted back to the main check-in area but we were not told or offered the gem downstairs. When I asked about it, I was told I needed to make a reservation for that, I then asked whether it was occupied, they replied no but then still wouldn't ask whether we would like to use it. Naturally, I was not the most thrilled to hear about it, in the end, I was allowed to use the facility but I had to ask and push for it, this all happened presumably with them having the prior knowledge about me and my husband having a wedding on site and the spa session was part of our wedding package, it would've been much nicer if they did everything without us asking, as a way to make the wedding couple feel special. Our wedding: I won't get into too much detail but the wedding was essentially a dream come true. A special shout-out to our wedding planner Tinnakon, who really took care of me in his best capacity, especially for some odd reason the entire month of March, there were only 2 weddings and both happened over the same weekend, so naturally Tinna was swamped and overwhelmed. Thank you also to the F&B director, Pia, for helping out and being around on the day of to make sure everything was fine. Our guests were all very pleased with the service they received during our wedding, and the attentiveness the team offered. Our entire day was also captured by the amazing Nok and Toa team, we would not have all these beautiful photos to treasure for a lifetime without them. Overall, a stunning property, expensive of course. I do think it's worth a splurge and staying a few nights here. I highly recommend this hotel and I look forward to revisiting in the not-so-distant future.
