The InterContinental Samui Baan Taling Ngam Resort sits perched on the western coast of Thailand’s third largest island, boasting views of the Gulf of Thailand and the five islands beyond. The resort’s spacious rooms and villas are designed with traditional Thai features like vaulted ceilings, ornate fretwork, and intricate, open-air sala pavilions inspired by Buddhist temples. Baah Thai Spa sits nestled on a cliff overlooking Taling Ngam Bay, surrounded by a lush forest of banyan & palm trees. The spa specializes in relaxation treatments, utilizing local tropical elements, like Thai oil, kaffir lime leaf, and Samui Island Coconut husks. At Amber Restaurant, which overlooks the Gulf of Thailand, Master Chef Tao infuses Thai classics with his own style, dishing up rich Kurobuta Pork Chops. On the beach, guests can dine by lantern and torchlight at Flames Restaurant, specializing in curries and grilled seafood. The area’s seclusion, relaxed atmosphere, and reputation for brilliant sunsets earned The InterContinental Samui the title of “Leading Honeymoon Resort” in Asia.

We spent four nights here in late December. Nice hotel, beautiful views, really lovely staff. We quite liked the relative isolation of this area vs the north/east sides of the island, although there are still local options. You can walk 10 minutes up the beach and find a cheap Thai massage and amazing beach shack lunch. We walked down to the tiny shack Pada Thai for a delicious lunch for about $5. The hotel is big and on a hill so get ready to hike up & down to go to the beach, gym etc. My one complaint, and it’s a serious one: the staff actively did not enforce the only Adults Only pool. As in, when one family had their screaming young child there, and another solo woman said to them it was the Adults Only pool, they had a member of staff pass by and say “Oh they’re ok”. The woman left; we did shortly thereafter. I just think it’s important that if large hotels full of families advertise that they have a “safe space” for those of us who don’t want to be around screaming kids especially at the holidays, they enforce it. Every single day we were there, kids came to the pool and staff never once told the parents they couldn’t. (There is an enormous family pool by the beach). So that’s the main reason we probably wouldn’t stay here again. But everything else about our stay especially the breakfast service was lovely.

This resort would have to be one of the most beautiful resorts I have ever visited. When I booked considering it's the opposite side of cheweng I thought it would be a bit boring, but once you are there you don't want to leave. We booked the presidential 3 bedroom villa and although it says you don't have ocean views, you have epic ocean views just with a few huts in front. We were super happy here. We have a 3 year old and the pool door could not be locked from the inside without our toddler opening it. The staff kindly modified the door from the outside with an external lock for our kids safety and wow we were blown away by such care and hospitality to our families safety. Restaurants are great, highly recommend the prawn quesadilla ( had it 3 times) kids clubs great, pools stunning and if you hire a car there's so much freedom to explore the island. Staff are suburb , nothing a problem. Only comment is to watch the tours to Koh Tan atm as the beach is full of rubbish from the storm. Will come back to Intercontinental in a heart beat.

My stay at this hotel was a mixed experience. It is a beautiful hotel on a great vantage point of the island. The views are amazing and the hotel is generally beautiful. However, the rooms are showing their age and could definitely use some updating. Especially the washroom. Multiple areas of mould were noticeable. There was also a crack in the wall around the toilet. The location of the hotel is far from almost anything else on the island. This may be a pro or con depending on what you are looking for. However, please note that some tour operators will charge you approximately 1500 baht for pick up / drop off services due to the location of the hotel. This applies even if they generally offer free pick up / drop off as part of the tour. Service was excellent throughout the stay apart from one strange occurrence. When I checked into my room, there was a snack platter laid out with macarons and nuts. However, I noticed that the date sticker showed it had been prepared the day before I arrived. I checked with the staff if it was still safe to eat and they recommended that I should not consume it. However, no effort was made to replace it and the plate of expired food continued to be in my room the entire stay. The breakfast buffet was good with a large variety of food available. The hotel spa was great as well. Overall, definitely an acceptable stay but not quite worth the premium pricing, in my opinion.

It’s our 2nd time staying at IC Samui and this time we have chosen to stay at Private Pool villa. The high standard of service started immediately when I arrived and continued all the way until I left. The level of service delivered by all staff were simply exceptional- kind, attention to detail, personalised. It really reflects the competency and training delivered by the management team. Special mentions to all Club Lounge staff, such as Mint. The room was big, clean and well equipped. IC Club Lounge was special , daily afternoon tea and cocktail hour were a highlight of our stay- good varieties of food and alcoholic drinks. Everything here at IC was so much better than Anantara Lawana which I’m staying at right now . Overall it’s another memorable stay here and will definitely come back for a 3rd time expecting equally amazing service and property.
