Renovated in 2014, Nikki Beach Resort Koh Samui is the slickest member of the global Nikki Beach brand, whose Miami Beach flagship earned the reputation as being the sexiest place on Earth, according to The London Observer. Indeed, the Beach Club is the place to be in Koh Samui – Sunday parties are epic, and the signature mojitos go down smooth. During the rest of the week, the atmosphere is more laid back. Don’t miss Wednesday night’s Cinema on the Sand, when classic movies accompany gourmet cuisine by the Bay of Thailand.

Nikki Beach Resort and Spa is a gorgeous property set on Lipa Noi beach on the Western coast of Koh Samui. We stayed for four nights in the two bedroom villa which is a beautiful space located at the very front of the hotel and adjacent to the beach. The property, though stunning, suffers from spotty service, particularly in the evenings and management that seems more focused on revenue from the Beach Club than on the comfort of hotel guests. The dining service during the morning breakfast as well as for lunch in the afternoon was perfect. The restaurant staff at both breakfast and lunch service was wonderful and the food was great. Copter at breakfast was amazingly attentive to all our needs. Nax from the kitchen took excellent care to ensure that the meals we requested for our baby were made perfectly and as required. We used the spa and salon and were happy with the treatments that we received. The hotel has a small but adequate Kids Club with two wonderful members of staff who are hands on and engaging with the children. Sadly, in stark contrast to the service we received during the day, we received some atrocious service during dinner. We are vegetarian for religious reasons. We clearly conveyed our dietary requirements to the hotel before making our booking, again before arrival and also each time while placing orders for our meals. On each occasion we were reassured that these would be adequately met. Despite this, a non-vegetarian item was served to the table at dinner which we started to eat without realising due to the extremely dim lighting in the restaurant. When we did realise and pointed it out to the staff all we got was a half mumbled apology and an offer to replace the dish. This was one of the most distressing experiences we faced at a five star property in recent times. We had a late arrival to the hotel and placed an order for dinner while en route from the airport. This is something we have never faced an issue with before at any hotel where we had a late check-in. When we arrived, Deya at the reception confirmed that the order was received and forwarded in writing to the kitchen. However when we finally reached our room and inquired for the food, the dining team was absolutely clueless and the server went on to blame the reception staff as being "incompetent". Incidentally, this was the same server who served us the non vegetarian dish later during our stay. To us it appeared that the hotel has made some major cutbacks or entirely outsourced the dinner service to some third party which has resulted in an absolutely terrible deterioration in the service levels at dinner. We were actually told one night that we needed to make a reservation to dine at the restaurant in the evening. This, in a hotel which is on a secluded corner of Koh Samui and which does not have a second dining option for dinner (except room service). When we protested and pointed out that this had not been informed to us at check-in or at any other time, a table was quickly arranged. On 30th night we (including our nine month old infant) were rudely awakened at around 10.45 pm to sudden and extremely loud pumping music. On inquiring with the front desk we were informed that set up for the New Year's party had just commenced. A party that was 24 hrs away needed to be set up at 10.45 pm by disturbing guests! The music was stopped only after voices were raised. Absolutely terrible experience with the management which is a shame considering how amazing the property and rest of the staff is!

We finished our 4 week trip with 2 nights at Nikki, we got engaged on our trip and wanted to end our holiday somewhere special. We did let the hotel know but they did not acknowledge this special occasion at all. We never expect freebies but other hotels set up something in our room eg with towels and flowers or at least offered congratulations. There are a number of wonderful things about this hotel but unfortunately that’s soured by the cons we experienced. For context we stayed at 8 different hotels over our 4 weeks and Nikki was the most disappointing for us given what they charge and how they position themselves as a 5* resort. The Rooms are fantastic - we had a lux pool view suite - the room is incredible, bed super comfy, amenities are great and lovely terrace to see the sunset. Loads of room and space and although they’re close together you feel very private. That’s mainly where the pros end unfortunately. One of my biggest qualms with this hotel is the service. I’m not sure if the focus is day visitors or hotel guests? We felt a bit second class to day guests, a lot of focus seems to go into the beach club and the events. Hotel guests cannot be at the beach club unless they pay a minimum spend - also we were informed the beds were fully booked anyway during our stay so we wouldn’t of been able to enjoy the facilities if we’d wanted - not having beds allocated for guests to me is a huge oversight - especially given there were a number of vacant beds all day we were there (despite being told they were fully booked). Set up a waiting list for hotel guests that if you don’t sell a bed / day guests don’t arrive they can have it ‘free of charge’ - guests will likely spend money on food and drink anyway but enforcing a minimum spend on your guests when they’re paying £300 a night to me is just not ok. Yes there’s a ‘private pool’ which has no loungers, no space to sunbathe, unless you want to lay directly outside someone’s room. General service is inconsistent- dinner service was terrible. We waited 10 minutes for a menu on our first night - there were 2 wait staff at the restaurant running back and forward to the other bar to get drinks which seems inefficient. We got a turn down, extra water and a sweet treat our first night and never again - read other reviews on this so seems it’s not been resolved yet. Breakfast service on our first day was also non existent - 3 wait staff at breakfast and 9 setting up day beds for the club. My partner ordered something a la carte that arrived cold and late. Given there’s only 2 restaurants on site - only one for dinner, I’d expect much better than this. On that - nothing to do in the evening at all - this didn’t bother us as we knew the hotel was isolated and it’s how we wanted to end our trip but it’s limited for room service and evening food to 1 restaurant menu only. If you were here for a while I imagine this would get tiresome. I also requested a late check out twice - in advance and on the day of check in - i was ignored in advance and when I asked on check in was told no as the hotel was as at capacity - when I checked online the hotel had multiple rooms free and when I pushed on this I was offered a late check out - lying to guests though is not something I appreciated - again where is the 5* service?! Overall, I found this resort hugely disappointing - it’s still a wonderful room, relaxing etc hence the 3* but for me style over substance is not good enough. We would not return or recommend it unfortunately.

Beautiful resort, Rooms are fantastic as are the staff. (Cloudio ) the manager is world class. The big let down is lack of facilities for children and the ridiculous seating arrangements for the pool. Charging residents a min spend when rooms are €300 per night. Hotel lacks atmosphere in the eve, singular bar on the property has no seating areas apart from day beds. The food was very good, a little pricey but expected for the brand. Nikki Beach is a beach club with a lovely hotel attached to, but the atmosphere dies a death in the evening, it’s quite isolated so be prepared to travel a little, we stayed for 7 days which in hindsight is probably a little too long especially with no activities or facilities for kids above the age of 5.

We've been to Samui many times, but never to the Lipa Noi/Nathon area, so we were pleased to find a Luxury Escapes deal to Nikki Beach. (Unfortunately the resort is a bit out of the way and we never made it to Nathon!) We were allocated a lovely bungalow in tropical surrounds well away from the pool 'party' area (there is a DJ playing house/dance music all day for the guests and day visitors lounging round the pool - so we were grateful to the reservations staff for sussing out our demographic -older generation!). We're keen swimmers and enjoy a pool, but the 'public' pool was way too small for us - more somewhere for the sun lovers to cool off - however the beach is very accessible and perfect for swimming (and away from the music!) and there is a larger guest only pool. Cleaning staff were great and we had no issues with the room maintenance - loved the bathroom! They provide plenty of water in eco-friendly glass bottles (yay!) and an extra little sweet treat delivered each night, which is a nice touch. The Escape restaurant is run by the lovely Kwan and is a very pleasant spot with a reasonable menu (though we were surprised at the lack of Thai options - mostly western style). Breakfast was a bit of a challenge - struggled to get our a la carte/coffee orders right and we found the buffet a bit underwhelming (but perhaps I'm being a bit picky). Cocktails were not good - worst Pina Colada I've ever had! Part of our package included a cocktail each day, so perhaps they weren't as alcoholic as if we had paid full price, but I suspect it's just poorly trained bar staff. Having said all that - I think Nikki Beach is a stylish resort in a lovely location and an ideal place for young couples or singles and for 'influencers', but old fogeys like us can enjoy it too!
