Reviews for The American Club

Incredibly Welcoming

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

I was blown away by how welcoming everyone was at the American club! To add some context, I used to work at the American club, and I was coming back to celebrate my former coworkers engagement! When I came back, everyone, from the bellmen, to the Front Desk, to the Concierge, to the barista at the Greenhouse, to the host at the Black Wolf Run all remembered me which made me feel very welcomed. As a guest, I experienced first hand exceptional service when a worker at the Black Wolf Run Golf Shop went out of their way to get me mints after lunch, as they knew I was running late for my party. During my quick stay, I went to The Wisconsin Room for brunch, The Kohler Design Center, The Greenhouse Cafe, Sports Core, and Black Wolf Run for lunch. Each place offered the experience that I have had the past 23 times I have stayed here, thus, the American Club has, once again, created a memorable experience for me!

Just Wonderful

My wife and I had the opportunity to stay at The American Club in December- the hotel is like a winter wonderland! We stayed in the Herbert V. Kohler suite. It is very possibly the most luxurious hotel room I have ever stayed in. The bathrooms amaze with all the top end Kohler fixtures. We ate dinner one evening in The Wisconsin Room. The food was superb and the service was relaxed but so professional. The staff throughout the hotel was friendly, efficient, and helpful. My compliments on a hotel that impresses - even for a couple that has stayed in many ultra-luxury hotels.

One word: Memorable!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

If I had to sum up our visit to the American Club, I would say with one word: memorable. Not just because of the place, but the people. After all, the name says it all. When you think of Club, you think of a collection of like-minded individuals. And at the American Club, you get not only a five star facility, but also a five star collection of staff. When we first arrive, we were greeted by the nicest valet staff we had ever came across: Zach and Alex. our amazing host Ethan. We mentioned to him that we were there for our anniversary, and he gave us an incredible upgrade! It didn’t stop there. That night we were greeted with champagne and beautiful chocolate as well as a card that said happy anniversary with my name on it. And again, this is all within an hour of arriving. Leanne and Breanna did a really good job as our concierges. They were able to connect us with the Koehler design centre which got a set up for a tour at the Kolher center. The tour was spectacular, and that night we retired to the Wisconsin around where we had some delicious steak frites (I recommend it!). Our waitress was Olivia, which did a good job. The next morning we got up and went back to the Wisconsin Room had a delicious breakfast. Sam was our waitress. We liked her not only because she was sweet and professional, but it was also interesting to hear how some of the locals lived Destination Kolher. That and we thought her a little kid that she told us about was adorable! We did some shopping is at the local shopping centre and came back to grab some shakes at The Green House. Now I will admit this is where the part of the trip was not so great. The manager there named Ayana was completely rude and disrespectful when we tried to ask for a highly recommended sundae. We were mortified by her behaviour. No worries, when we talk to the front desk, a manager by the name of Shuvi took care of the matter immediately!!! We fetl way better and continued our trip for the coming days. However, one of the best part of the trip was the tour of the hotel that was given by Ingo. One of the first amazing things that we found out was how the name international club came to be. The story is so beautiful and yet so American at the same time. Both my partner and I just felt amazing and we are proud to be Americans. Something that we, given the current climate in the country, is tough to feel from time to time. And yet here is a getaway to a five star resort that takes away all those woes in worries. Lastly, we have to give a shout out to our Cleaning Lady Sultane who did a fantastic job. Every time we went back in the room, she left a cleaner than when we left it. And the turndown service was top tier! So, to sum it up, if I had to write American Club on a scale of 1 to 10, I will give it a 15. Even that number is not doing it justice. It is arguably one of Wisconsin’s best secrets, if not America’s. I highly highly highly recommend American Club. Save your money for one of the most amazing stays you whatever experience. I know we’ll be back for sure. :-)

Not what we expected. Not very 4th of July festive either

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 months ago

We stayed at the American Club for 3 nights from July 3-6 expecting a fun Fourth of July family get together. Bell staff, valet parking staff restaurant staff were all very pleasant. It was my husband and me, our 2 young adult children, and my parents. We were not informed about the Spa being closed until we called to book appointments but the golfers in our group had plans and the rest of us mistakenly assumed there would be a hotel pool and other festive events so we were ok with accepting the spa was closed except for some treatments. Those who played golf during the day were happy and entertained. The rest had the option of a quick spa treatment or exercise or a dip indoors or in a small lake behind the sports center which is like a nice YMCA not a 5 star resort. When we got to the hotel the paperwork about 4th of July events suggested taking blankets and chairs early in the day to get good seats but it’s a 5 star hotel on a holiday weekend advertising a holiday event and lots of fun… we asked the desk staff that morning if there were blankets they had to check with housekeeping. There were no folding chairs. We bought them at target. The city canceled fireworks. That’s not the fault of the hotel. But there was not other sign of the holiday. Apparently on Saturday there was a lawn event but that was the day we left for Chicago. But during our stay there were a few flags at check in and that is it. We would have expected the hotel to have had more involvement in the fireworks and concert had they taken place. We spent a good part of the morning getting that situated. We ate breakfasts and one dinner in the Wisconsin room - mediocre and excessively salty. We ate at the pub in the hotel. Nice atmosphere for lunch - also excessively salty. Our best meal was at black wentlook at the immigrant room, one we had not booked ahead, and were told by the host that we could not walk towards the restaurant to look at it as there were diners. I believe there was a couple in the room at the late hour that we went down to explore that part of the hotel. Rooms are dark, my bathroom was dated - perhaps early 1990s. Not what we expected at a Kohler owned resort. Our children had a room that was nicer than ours. Both before and after we changed rooms from a small dark room to a larger room. The person who helped us said that we had booked through through Fine Hotels and resorts, a third party company like Expedia so she was limited in what she could do. But we heard and could feel that the hotel was at a pretty low capacity. We had booked a reservation months in advance for the art museum. We chose not to go when we pulled up and there were absolutely no cars in the parking lot. Best for golfers or when the spa is opened and probably more of a fall, winter or spring resort or just couples or families with very small children., Or a business event. Better yet for those in driving distance. Highlight was cocktails before diner in the Library. But even there you had to line up to order a drink from a very nice bar tender (no servers) and there were no nuts or snacks. We still enjoyed our time together. Just would not run back.

Amazing Historical Upscale Lodging Property - Great Service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 10 months ago

This is such an amazing historical property and at Christmas time is is magical with all the lights and when it snows, even more so! Yes it is a 5 ⭐️, 5💎....but they still seem to impress me. From chocolates in your room at check in, to chocolate at evening turn down service. I travel with a little crochet mouse - when I returns to my room, they even had it's robe n slippers in a little American Club tray. ❤. We came for a holiday party and I'll definitely return in the future.
