Kyoto is a city where the future and the past co-mingle in a vibrant harmony. As sleek steel structures arise, setting the tone for modern architecture, traditional wooden machiya still line the streets. Kyoto was spared during World War II, and as a result is one of the only places left where traditional Japanese culture and architecture can still be fully explored; Hotel Granvia Kyoto is the perfect place to begin your journey. Incorporated with the customary Asian style is their use of modern furnishings, and an impressively, breath-taking use of futuristic architecture that is part of the Kyoto Station complex. Hotel Granvia offers striking views of Kyotoâ€(TM)s mountainous skyline, and luxury accommodations that combine natural elements with modern conveniences, a full gym as well as fourteen first class restaurants. Designed to meet all of your needs under one beautifully designed roof, Hotel Granvia gives you a private entrance to the wonders of this historic city.

The hotel is located directly above the train station which was great. The location allowed us to explore the city by foot although some areas are a long walk. The hotel is clean and well kept. We were upgraded to a larger room upon check in and were very surprised how nice it is. We had a beautiful sitting area along with an upgraded coffee machine, DVR, robes, etc. The beds were comfortable and the AC/heat worked great. The staff is very welcoming. We will be back.

Of the four hotels that we used in Japan, this was our least favorite. The location is terrific as most reviewers have stated; the front desk staff is very hospitable; the housekeeping is generally good. However, the hotel needs refurbishing with areas near the elevators showing signs of wear and tear. Our room had chipped furniture, plumbing that was often running, and bathrobes straight out of 2nd hand stores.

This is our second time staying at the Hotel Granvia Kyoto. The first time we stayed there, we had a room overlooking the trains which was very interesting but a little noisy. This time we got a room with a view of the city between two buildings and the room was very far away from the elevator. I asked for a view of the Kyoto Tower and was told our room type did not include a tower view. I booked through Expedia and there was no option to book a Kyoto Tower view. I think booking directly with the hotel is better for view preferences. The breakfast buffet was good with many choices and I liked the small omelette with tomato and cheese. The concierge, Mr Kawabata, was very helpful. He even walked with me downstairs to show me where the JR train entrance, buses and taxis were located. He went above and beyond my expectations The location is very convenient if you want to take trains, buses and taxis. We switched hotels and were more centrally located to many attractions including the Nishiki market which was a totally different experience which I preferred. The Hotel Granvia Kyoto is a good choice for first timers to Kyoto but it depends on your location preferences.

The hotel is very good but rooms by the south tower lift side face the railway platforms, soundproofing is bad and sleeping is difficult. Having said that, for those luckily awarded north tower or who can sleep with noises, the hotel is great. 9 or 10 restaurants, great staff, located on top of Kyoto station and in front of Kyoto Tower and many shops and restaurants around. Trains and metro are just there. . The room was big with good lightning, a good safety box, a kettle and instant coffee and tea supplies, a minibar with basic selection, kimono, bathrobes, slippers good towels, good bathroom with all kind of amenities, good bed and pillows, working area, large TV with screen mirroring possibilities...Storage capacity for suitcases and luggage hardly enough for two persons doing a long journey. Breakfast should improve. Massified, queues... Quality was average and variety insufficient, specially poor referred to pastries. I would return to this hotel only if lack of noises was guaranteed.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Our private tour company made reservations at this hotel as it’s in the train station so very convenient when traveling to the Japanese Alps. It is a huge hotel and walking to our room was down a very long corridor that felt forever. Our room was nice and large. Our bathroom came with a shower/bathtub. The toilet seemed easy to use after we figured it out. The breakfasts were amazing and had a wide variety to choose from. Hotel also has fine dining restaurants. We ate at 3 of the restaurants. Each restaurant catered to French, Chinese or Italian cuisine. All dinners was very good We were too tired to go out and look for places to eat after sightseeing all day. The staff and service was good. The hotel really adhere to check in time so if you arrive early be prepare to sit in the large lobby. They will store your luggage while you do some sightseeing if you arrived early.
