Booked 4 nights on hyatt points. Had a garden view room (I think it was an upgrade because I booked the default award room). Big room. Not sure if it was the room positioning or what but it was the best water pressure of any hotel shower i have ever used. It was incredible. Like a gentle firehose. Friendly staff. Did not have breakfast here, walked to konbini instead. Folks online love to debate this hotel's location vs the other hyatt(s). I think the location is great, you are a 10 minute walk from the metro station, and 10 minute walk from 2 konbinis and some small bars and resteraunts, including a good McDonalds if you need a break from japanese food lol. They provide a free cab ride from Kyoto Station too. It was quite cold and very rainy during our Kyoto stay but I still found the walks reasonable. Went to the bar once, very reasonably priced drinks for a nice hotel bar. I would recommend this hotel and potentially stay again one day.

This is my first review on TripAdvisor, but our stay at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto was so exceptional that it merits taking a few minutes. As a Hyatt Globalist member, I am a frequent traveler and am familiar with Hyatt properties worldwide. The Hyatt Regency Kyoto is truly exceptional. The quality of the property and the staff is inline with the very best Hyatt hotels with the sole exception of the Park Hyatts. We enjoyed a beautifully appointed suite. The gym is well equipped. The breakfast was very pleasant, overlooking a small garden. The best part of the stay was the staff. Front desk, customer experience, valet, concierge, restaurant and housekeeping were all terrific. While we were told there is construction next door, we were not troubled by it at all. For those traveling to Kyoto for vacation or business, we highly recommend this property.

Our room at this hotel was truly peaceful and serene. It overlooked a gorgeous garden with fish in a pond. The bathroom was spacious with a large traditional bath tub. We loved the breakfast, the hotel bar and the maiko evening experience. The staff were lovely, particularly Dennis who was just incredibly kind and delivered us an exceptional experience.

Make sure you visit the amazing temple immediately next door. The statues there are of great importance to Japanese art. The hotel is within a short taxi ride of many of the downtown sites but some distance from the Gold Pavilion. The bar downstairs was better than expected too with a good choice of whiskey.

This hotel is off the beaten path as compared to the Hilton, which is in the thick of it and a brand new more modern hotel though costs more. We were travelling with a 22 year old son and 24 year old daughter so having some distance 2 miles or so form all of the late night action was a a good thing. Rooms were a bit small and dated. Bathrooms/Shower/bath/bidet toilet area was roomy and well designed except no door sink/shower from rorom. so when yo walk by you can see into the shower/bathtub through the glass - expected a pocket door for privacy. We had full days planned with guides and transportation so the Hyatt worked great for us. We were out the door by 9 am and returned late afternoon. In the evenings, we rented e-bikes form the hotel to get to ceramic/food and other shops we had seen while driving too and from our excursions - or - took an easy taxi to the area along the river where the Kyoto action resides. We loved Kyoto.
