Originally built in 1942, The Post Hotel resonates with the spirit of its colorful founder, Sir Norman Watson and the dedication of its current owners who were raised to appreciate good food, good wine and good company. For more than 35 years, their shared passion has been to welcome guests to this world-class Canadian Rocky Mountain resort. The Post Hotel & Spa is both the ideal accommodation for relaxation and the perfect starting point for most Canadian Rockies tours.

We has stayed in Lake Louise many years ago at the Fairmont Lake Louise and we wanted to try another hotel. Whilst the Post Hotel & Spa cannot rival the Fairmont Lake Louise in terms of location and view, it is still a good choice for a comfortable stay. It is a very nice hotel but not everything is perfect. On the positive side, the hotel has a cosy feel, the staff was friendly, the swimming pool (indoor) is of decent size and the restaurant was very good (also nice to have free coffee at the reception in the morning - and tea in the afternoon). On the other hand, there are a few things that could be definitely improved. As a starter, and stating the obvious, the hotel is not on the Lake and to go the Lake one has to take the public shuttle (but the first one in the morning sees to leave after 9am) or drive up with one's own car but in peak touristic season the parking will easily be full by 7/8am, which means there are no real options between 7/8am and 9am+, which was when we wanted to start our day hike (we ended up walking up to Lake Louise which added a few kilometers to our 20km+ day hike). I found it quite surprising that the hotel would not organise its own shuttle service to Lake Louise (this should be a must have for a hotel of this standing - and I would expect a free shuttle). On the other hand, they do offer (but at a price) a shuttle service to Moraine Lake (need to book). That being said, the main letdown was the room - quite dated, small, tired carpets, a bit stuffy (no A/C - it was hot, we had to leave the balcony door open - luckily we were on the river side and not disturbed by trains), old-style bathroom etc. Also at the time of our stay the hotel only had two options for dinner - the gastronomic restaurant (as I said before, it was good - but please note it is a fixed price menu and one has to book in advance) or the bar. If you stay a few nights, you will probably want to go dine outside at least once.

The desk attendant failed to inform me that it cost money to park at Lake Louise when I told him I wanted to go for a morning run. I drove all the way up to Lake Louise because he failed to suggest I take the free shuttle and wound up having to turn around as I was unwilling to pay in excess of $30 to go for a run in the early morning. Rooms are motel like, dated and do not feel clean. Fan in the room (no a/c) was broken. Not a great location if you want to walk out your door and explore. Pool and gym are an embarrassment...both are run down and suffer from a lack of air circulation.

We have enjoyed the restaurant for many years now, and thought it was time to finally submit a review. The meals have been consistently excellent, as has the atmosphere, the servers (many of whom have been there for years), and the sommeliers. It is now a family tradition to enjoy some special holiday meals at the Post Hotel during the Christmas holidays, and some years, on Christmas Day itself. We have never been disappointed, and hope to continue this tradition for many years into the future. New this year is a vegetarian menu option, which was much appreciated, and, of course, delicious. We hope that the head chef continues in his position for many more years!

Our family has made special memories dining at the Post Hotel over the Christmas season. The meals are made up of four choices from a set menu which includes vegetarian options. We had far too much fun debating the choices and sharing the selections , especially the desserts. There are no bad choices , the food is uniformly excellent. What sets the Post apart and keeps us returning over the years is the atmosphere and the service. The staff are personable, knowledgeable and truly interested in helping to make the experience memorable. We took advantage of the sommelier , Cetin's , knowledge to enhance our meals with unique wines. Our family has the opportunity to gather so seldom these days it is important to make the occasions special and the Post Hotel does that. We will return again.

We have been coming to the Post Hotel for many years. It is a very unique and special place. We were worried that the service levels would diminish under new ownership but were pleasantly surprised that we enjoyed all the personal touches we’ve come to value. The hotel is the definition of rustic luxury - the rooms are cozy and charming with big open fireplaces and comfortable beds. There is nothing better than finding a quiet spot in the lobby or in the library to read a book and enjoy a glass of wine. Watching skaters on the private rink makes you feel like you are in a post card. The hotel backs on the river and is close to Lake Louise Ski Hill and a short drive to the Chateau Lake Louise. The restaurant is fantastic and the wine list is second to none. Service is professional yet personal. The hotel is situated close to the railway tracks so best to book on the mountain side. However it is also an authentic reminder of how these historical hotels were built in the remote areas of the mountains. The hotel is an expensive and indulgent treat, and a wonderful experience that will leave you with lasting memories for years to come.
