The Danna Langkawi, Malaysia

It is apparently a luxury 'small' hotel of the world. And yes, it doesn't have hundreds of rooms but some of the spaces inside are bigger than many concert halls. Beautiful building, stunning large bedrooms and huge bathrooms. Quiet aircon, vast beds and lovely bedlinen. Top marks for getting rid of little plastic bottles of toiletries and as much single use plastic as possible. Peranakan and Italian restaurants first class.; buffet restaurant has everything for everybody though might benefit from some simplification of the offer. Beach and pools kept immaculate, the sea very safe to swim in. Staff mostly young, attentive, helpful. A slightly odd thing to have in such a hotel but, fabulous, a huge library with the most interesting books - and not a curly battered John Grisham in sight! Had a treatment in the spa - booked reflexology which was more of a leg and foot massage but very pleasant. Only negatives for us were the 'roll out the barrels' type pianist at breakfast (not everyday) - I could do with peace and quiet in the mornings - and the crooner in the bar - again, not every evening.

We spent two weeks at the Danna after a hectic week in Bangkok. The hotel was all the reviews had promised Things to bear in mind - it is jellyfish season so if red flag up you should avoid swimming in the sea which wasn’t an issue for us at all. Sunbeds and towels always available pool or beach so no worries and only one or two people left stuff for hours unusing the bed but pool staff kept watch. The Reading room is beautiful and cool but don’t rely on it for popular fiction in English - ensure you take enough reading matter with you that you want. Some people leave their books on departure but they get snapped up. The rooms have nespresso but also the most delicious TWG tea - best herbal tea I’ve had. The showers were really good and powerful. When it’s raining not so many places to sit under cover outside and watch the rain - there is a covered area by Italian bit they tend to start laying it up early but we found that had shade and shelter with a drink from pool bar. Sometimes they give you an afternoon snack by pool and sometimes they give you a buzzer to order drink and food when sitting by pool. We enjoyed eating outside in the evening - is possible with all 3 restaurants if you book. Bottled water on tap and by beach and pool they always have iced water to help yourself to - both plain and flavored eg mint/apple. There is no on site shop and no shop you can walk to get anything. Highly recommend the mangrove tour and the sky cab trips. Happy hour in main bar in evening 5-7pm with 30% of their excellent cocktails All the food in every restaurant is just the best with so much choice. Attention to detail by Chef Pari is second to none - he seemed to be in every restaurant at every meal checking everything was ok with all the guests and staff. He runs an amazing brigade. All the staff were faultless in their help and politeness. Look out for the green glow of the squid boats each evening and the pair of hornbills

Don't get me wrong scenery and room are amazing and people are nice but its annoying when they don't get things you ask for right. Whether its not topping up shower gel and doing housekeeping as late as 3pm when you want to get in the bath. Ordering food and drinks most of the time they get it wrong like not the right pizza or too many drinks when you ask for 1. Had to ask for an expresso cup 3 times because they kept bringing glasses or mugs. Food quality is nice when you’re paying £30 a dish.

We just love The Danna Langkawi! We were so impressed from the first time we stepped foot in this beautiful luxurious resort that it eventually became a place for our destination wedding. Our guests, from far and wide, were also impressed with the whole set up and said we couldn't have chosen a more beautiful and romantic location for a wedding ceremony. Pristine bedrooms and bathrooms; they are so well maintained. Various cuisines to savour. The Danna Langkawi has a lovely bar where one can relax in the evenings. Great spa service (be sure to make reservations early as the slots get taken up fairly quickly). To top it all, the staff are friendly and professional. Kudos to Ms. Marzura and team for giving us the most memorable wedding celebration.

We stayed at the hotel and had an unforgettable experience. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home. The hotel has amazing views and is located on a nice serene beach- a perfect spot to unwind and chill. The breakfast was excellent offering a variety of options and again the service was excellent especially from chef Pari who remembered our choices and delivered these every morning. We would recommend dining at The Terrace Italian restaurant which served food comparable to any restaurant in Europe. Overall this hotel delivers a comfortable stay and helps one wind. Unfortunately there are not many restaurants within walking distance but taxis are cheap so this was not a problem for us.
