The Danna Langkawi, Malaysia

This review is regarding the food at The Danna. My daughter and I are currently staying at The Danna. This is my second trip this year to Malaysia and on both trips I visited both KL, Penang and Langkawi staying at 6 different 5* hotels. I can honestly say that the food here is THE best we have eaten in all of them. I thought the St. Regis food was good but this surpasses them. Head chef Pari, is meticulous about the food in every restaurant here. He heads a fantastic team of chefs who perfect the most amazing food from so many different cuisines. I have never experienced so much choice at breakfast. All of which is absolutely outstanding. My favourite is their Roti Canai. It is amazing. We are going to miss this morning delight when we leave. I spend a lot of time in France and I honestly thought they had a French pastry chef making their croissants and pastries. But Pari reliably informs me that it is a local chef who clearly has the magic to make them taste like they are from the best boulangerie in France. The food poolside and The terrace are also fantastic. I would absolutely recommend the food at this hotel. Just allow yourself plenty of time at breakfast to try so many delightful things on offer.

Amazing hotel in a great location with wonderful staff. Stayed there for 9 nights, I can not praise the staff highly enough, everyone was really helpful and so friendly, a special thanks to Pari the head chef who we did a cookery class with and his chefs, made such an effort, definitely recommend doing the class, just need to try out what we learned at home now. Also did the morning walk with Selva, again really nice guy, enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable, I’ve already put into practice some of the things he told us. Also have to mention all of the waiting staff in the restaurants, especially Yamin, lovely guy. The facilities are great, the beach stunning and well located to visit Langkawi’s sights, I guess if I was pushed to find fault it would only be the housekeeping who seem to miss some of the obvious but that’s me being picky as they quickly rectified their oversights, overall 100% recommended.

The pool, the restaurants, the cocktails and the view were all equally great. The room was clean, very comfortable and the bed was fantastic. Breakfast was almost too much to choose from. Personnel all very kind and helpful. Perfect for a short getaway.

We had a wonderful stay a The Danna in Langkawi. Overall great experience, nice and comfortable rooms, beautiful surroundings, great food and very kind and helpful staff. Great thanks to all the staff of The Danna. Especially a great thanks to Ananya (in the Verandah) and Ankit at The Terrace. They did a wonderful job in making our stay even more enjoyable. Title doesn't do the Danna justice. I travel a lot for work and stay in some top tier hotels (Conrad Koh Samui, Park Hyatt NYC, Tokyo & London, Waldorf Astoria's, Raffles Singapore, etc.) but I can honestly say The DANNA LANGKAWI tops the lot. Bold claim, but for me this hotel has everything. First, how clean everything about the hotel is. You expect that from top tier hotels, but how many hotels go as far as to routinely scrub the algae off the pond rocks? Or remove the small burrs from the grass that fall off the trees? Everyday before the pool opens the team are in vacuuming it. Even the public restrooms are pristine. Second, the facilities. This hotel has it all. A library, with real books (including a whole kids section), a billiards room, a kids nursery / play room, a cigar smoking room with a great selection of cigars, a wine cellar with a decent selection, jet skis, paddle boards, pedal boats, fish ponds complete with frogs, the list goes on. I wanted to take a cab to the airport so I could rent a car and drive around the island. Why don't you just rent one of the hotel vehicles sir? the concierge asked me. After I explained I wanted to do the driving he said no problem, take one of the Danna's BMW X1 for the day. How many other hotels have vehicles the guests can rent and drive themselves? Third, the staff. Incredible. From the executive chef who comes and checks on every guest to make sure their food is just as they like it, to the hotel manager to check in staff to the team at the pool and pool restaurant. Too many team members to name individually but every single one of them for the entire stay was impeccable; a smile and a willingness to help make your day unforgettable. Fourth, the activities and the overall vibe. Everyday the hotel has activities that caters for all ages. A free morning walk, a cooking class, bicycles to use to cycle around the area, jet ski tours, sunset cruises, etc. Even though the hotel has one pool (unless you are lucky enough to stay in a private pool villa), the pool is massive, and never feels crowded. The hotel also has pretty much a private beach, which is also pristine. About the vibe, sure some of the hotels I've stayed in felt more luxurious in one way or another, but The Danna somehow manages to find that sweet spot where everybody feels at home without it being too pretentious. From check in to check out the Danna team will make you feel like you're at home, whether you're a solo traveller or a family of five. Fifth, the food. Four restaurants all serving different cuisine, so everybody can find something they like. And the portions are huge!!! We are fortunate to live in KL so only an hour away, and the Danna has become our go-to destination. Thank you to the whole team!
