Hotel Cafe Royal

We called in on spec for coffee but could not resist the cakes. The cheesecake was fantastic. The best I've ever had. I rarely post reviews but it was so beautiful I had to share it, the review, certainly NOT the cheesecake. The staff were lovely and sooo obliging

Our festive afternoon tea in the Grill Room was just perfect from the moment we arrived until the minute we left. The attention to detail, impeccable service, exquisite food, and wonderful ambience just couldn’t be faulted. As soon as our taste buds were excited by the amuse-bouche of truffle scone with chicken liver parfait and port jelly, my friend and I knew we were in for a treat. There was a selection of four types of sandwiches, all of which were delicious, although my favourite was probably the pickled cucumber with goat’s curd, closely followed by the turkey, cranberry, stuffing and chestnuts. Unsurprisingly, we couldn’t resist having a few additional sandwiches, when offered, although we certainly didn’t need them! The warm scones were divine (plain and cranberry), and just melted in the mouth, but we couldn’t manage to eat both types, as well as the rich, sweet delicacies that followed. Fortunately, the staff were happy to box up the uneaten offerings for us to take away and eat later. Judging by the number of diners leaving with boxes, we weren’t the only ones to be defeated either! Undoubtedly, the food was fabulous but so were the different teas which complemented the savoury and sweet courses perfectly and which we drank to our hearts’ content. I’d be fibbing if I said that the occasion surpassed our high expectations because, after all, this is Café Royal and we had high expectations anyway. However, we certainly weren’t disappointed with any aspect of our visit. All the staff were excellent and service could not have been better. We also loved the live piano music which added just the right touch to the occasion, creating the perfect, relaxed ambience. Café Royal exudes elegance, sophistication and perfection. The bar has been set high.

One of the best 5 star hotel experiences in my 88 years. Besides the incredible location, the hotel finishes were extraordinary! A wonderful mix of modern and antiques, with many artifacts a part of the original architecture and decor, which have been maintained brilliantly. The attention to detail by the staff was second to none…present, willing, anticipatory, festive (celebrated my birthday while there), professional, and kind. Everyone seemed to employ a “pride of ownership” mentality. The history of the property is overwhelming and evident. Maria of Guest Services made the stay extra special by surprising me and making sure the room was decorated for my birthday and providing some special treats as an acknowledgment. We will never stay anywhere else in London and we have stayed at them all, including the Ritz. We didn't want to leave!

I don’t usually write reviews, but our stay here was so great that I feel like I have to share it. We love the perfect balance between luxury and relaxation here, and the room layout was fantastic. The staff were incredibly friendly and thoughtful. Plus, the location was spot on. A special shoutout to Victor for being so attentive and sharing the hotel’s story in such detail, it really changed how we experienced the place. Knowing about its rich history made us feel more connected , as if we were part of its ongoing story. We’ll definitely visit again!

I absolutely love everything about this hotel – the location, the staff, and the stunning decor and design. Despite being in a high-traffic area, I feel completely safe, thanks to the attentive security always keeping an eye on the street out front. It's also conveniently within walking distance to SOHO, Chinatown, and all the nearby shopping areas!
