About the Hotel

Designer Philippe Starck conceived St Martins Lane London as a surrealist wonderland viewed through the looking glass of classic British eccentric taste. Cheeky and daring with a touch decadent, the lobby and social spaces are signature Starck style. It’s fitting that the hotel is situated in the bustling theatre district in Covent Garden - it is pure drama. Just ask the garden gnomes; this is classic London with a seriously seductive twist. Floor-to-ceiling windows at St Martins Lane pull the cityscape into each guest room, offering a dramatic perspective on the energetic city below. The Tim Andreas of Banjo design rooms evoke a sense of spaciousness and luxury by using a mix of both naturally inspired and modern materials. The overall effect is an ethereal, yet sensuous experience.

Reviews for St Martins Lane London

Perfect in every way

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

We stayed at the St. Martins Lane hotel during our recent spring break trip. When I booked our stay, I had no idea how perfect this place would be. As we arrived early, we were pleasantly surprised that our room was ready and available to us! We were greeted by the kind and helpful doorman, Visar. He was always there offering to assist in any way! The hotel is centrally located, easily accessible by the tube and only a few minutes walk to all of the things we wanted to see. We had breakfast and afternoon tea and both were delicious. Our room was nice, the bed was comfortable and the water pressure and temperature was great! Will definitely stay here next time we are in London.

Perplexing hotel experience - know what you're getting into...

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

A very mixed review for a quite perplexing hotel experience. This hotel is clearly billed & branded as a top notch accommodation boasting requisite photos & high price tag all deeply within 5 stardom. The reality we experienced was a peculiar mix of 5 star luxury and things you'd expect at a stay in your aunt's old guest room. The room we were initially given, though an upgrade, looked like an upscale basement guest room - large and seemingly opulent but incredibly dark and strangely bare but not in an aesthetic minimalist way. We were shown 3 other rooms in an attempt to find anything similar to the photos of the room we ordered - hard to describe the stark contrast btwn the hotel's photos and these rooms. We didn't need to say much, our expressions said it all and thankfully the front desk manager understood the situation (and possibly knows this problem well) and after some nimble work was able to find us the room from the photo which indeed was lovely and apparently a one-off among the 200+ rooms. Even if you're lucky enough to snag this marketing-friendly room, the thing I would have appreciated knowing in advance is that the room, like the rest of the hotel, is plagued with problems from simple things that need fixing (e.g. mold on shower fixture) through questionable design (and sometimes lack thereof), and one of the oddest in-room purchase points we've ever encountered in the form of two large Ikea baskets filled with a variety of odds & ends for sale that made it feel like a garage sale in the middle of the room. On a positive note - the location is fantastic and the hotel generally looks nice however with this price tag there are likely better options.

Let down by poor service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This hotel is very centrally located to theatres, attractions and many restaurants of Covent Garden and decor was also intricate and quirky to match a luxury hotel, however the service wasn't that of five star hotel. Before the stay we had emails about concierge and a WhatsApp number for any issues (we didn't need to use) but this was a nice touch to know help was at hand if we needed it. Upon arrival we were quickly welcomed in and the man on the desk gave us a courtesy call to check we were happy with the room. On the booking we had added that we were celebrating our wedding, so when we had a knock on the door with a complimentary bottle of prosecco, we were very impressed! We weren't so impressed with the plate that said 'happy birthday' and the attendant who was ready to wish me a happy birthday when I said we're celebrating our wedding... Kind gesture regardless. The room was modern however the toilet seat wobbly and door lock didn't do anything. Windows for the room had built in blinds but these couldn't be adjusted, which was a shame as we had a good view of the eye and the city. The service at breakfast was disappointing. For a five star hotel, you'd expect to be served quickly and with a smile. This was not the case! On the second morning we had to flag someone down to take our order. The food quality was good however. The real let down was being charged £3.50 for a chocolate bar on our final invoice, which we didn't have. Regardless of whether this is dishonest staff, we sent a couple of emails, which have both been acknowledged but not taken any further - and have resulted in me scoring this review 1 out of 5. Otherwise it would have been a 3. Wouldn't return.

VISAR, THE EXCELLENT CONCEIGE PERSON!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

Concierge always always looking after us. Especially Visar who is always attentive and makes up for shortfalls of service from other departments. Like making sure we have enough srinking water for our room, knowing when is our departure date to make sure he will be timely in attending to our luggages.

Friendly service

The staff were very helpful. They quickly found us a table for our large group. Our server Frayer was very helpful. Note that the açai bowl doesn’t actually have açai. The omelettes were good. The coffee was good. The eggs were cooked perfectly.
