About the Hotel

Designer Philippe Starck conceived St Martins Lane London as a surrealist wonderland viewed through the looking glass of classic British eccentric taste. Cheeky and daring with a touch decadent, the lobby and social spaces are signature Starck style. It’s fitting that the hotel is situated in the bustling theatre district in Covent Garden - it is pure drama. Just ask the garden gnomes; this is classic London with a seriously seductive twist. Floor-to-ceiling windows at St Martins Lane pull the cityscape into each guest room, offering a dramatic perspective on the energetic city below. The Tim Andreas of Banjo design rooms evoke a sense of spaciousness and luxury by using a mix of both naturally inspired and modern materials. The overall effect is an ethereal, yet sensuous experience.

I want to express my sincere thanks for the excellent service we received from the waiter Frayer. From the moment we arrived, he was very attentive, friendly and professional, which made our experience even more special. We feel welcome and valued at all times. Not only did you guide us in the choice of dishes, but you also demonstrated a deep knowledge of the menu, something we really appreciate, because it helped us enjoy an extraordinary culinary experience. In addition, your speed to attend to our requests and the kindness with which you attended us, made every detail count. This type of service is what makes the difference and undoubtedly makes us want to return. Thank you for your dedication and for going further at every moment. Congratulations on your excellent work and we hope to see you on our next visit. We have a pleasant impression thanks to you!

Outstanding

I loved everything during our two night stay at this fabulous hotel. When you first walk in it doesn't feel like you're at a hotel but more of a funky bar/art gallery sort of feel. The reception staff were welcoming and the room request we'd sent prior to arrival was accommodated. The rooms are really fresh and bright which I loved. By London standards it was a decent size. There was a safe in the room which was a great size and free to use, plus a kettle and Nespresso machine. The bed was one of the comfiest beds I've ever slept in and on both nights I had a great sleep. The bathroom was also really nice with plenty of space and a powerful shower. The whole hotel was immaculately clean. It's in a truly unbeatable location and above all else - I'll definitely be returning.

Not 5 star. Stay elsewhere or suffer from regret.

I’ve stayed everywhere from hostels to 5 star resorts around the world, and my honest take on St Martin’s is that it’s basically like a typical Marriott in a Four Seasons location. I’m giving this hotel a generous 4 stars based solely on the location, nothing else. While the proximity to theatres and sites can’t be beat, the rooms, lobby, and service sucked. I had expected to be overwhelmed by the lovely decor of the lobby and dining rooms, but frankly they seemed old and faded, like much of the hotel. As for the room, we were initially given a loft “suite” on the first floor and it was atrociously loud. The streets are very busy and I wouldn’t recommend anything on the ground level. After tussling with the check in person (clearly a disengaged employee), we were moved to a third floor room. The floor to ceiling windows were great … especially when they immediately faced the construction scaffolding of the Opera house next door. We had to keep the drapes closed all day, so forget about any natural light. Oh, and your lamps won’t work in the room either, so basically use your iPhone flashlight. The furniture and bathroom are showing signs of wear, as well. Basically the hotel needs new furnishings, new paint, and a facelift. For extra bonus fun, don’t expect to rest at the hotel during the day. Either the construction noise or their rooftop work or the street sounds will thwart you in that goal. Perhaps if we had something on the 5th or 6th floor, it would have been much better, but it was clear that the check in staff were not interested in sorting out our room. To add insult to injury, they tried to add a charge for a travel kit to our final bill for the first room we were given. One more reminder of why this hotel was a disappointment. After our check in and disappointing room experience, we made sure not to dine at the hotel so that we weren’t throwing good money after bad. My advice; stay at a different hotel in this area, or book the lowest level room here for the location only.

Excellent hotel and great location in Coven Garden!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Excellent hotel in an amazing part of London. We arrived on a sunny Saturday and walked out into the lively action of Covent Garden & SoHo. The hotel also provides a quiet escape from the busy surrounding streets. The rooms are well appointed, particularly the bathrooms!

It's The Little Things That Make Good Become Great.

Booked St Martin's mainly due to proximity and reviews. It's a superb hotel and excels in every regard. The rooms are excellent in all aspects. All the little details are above the line. The bed, the toiletries, the mini bar, the awesome shower, the lighting, the TV channels and even the toilet paper :). Nothing disappoints. The Blind Spot is exceptionally good. Add to this the friendly and efficient staff plus the great location and you have one of the best hotels in London. Will return.
