There is a vivid image of old world Mexico that is found within the confines of La Mision, a newly-built resort with vintage sensibilities. Located in the mission town of Loreto, a historic city tucked between the mountains and the Sea of Cortez, this intimate retreat lives up to its namesake by delivering a style of architecture that is undeniably one of sacred beauty. Beneath its roof are is a choice of 68 stunning accommodations, including lovely rooms and sprawling two-bedroom suites all boasting a hacienda-chic ambiance with protected terraces or patios, cool marble baths, and modern amenities that complement rather than collide with the authentic surroundings.

Things to be aware of: - "ocean view" rooms is broad description, including anything on the water-facing side, including rooms with no view due to vegetation or because you're on the pool deck with no privacy and lower than the perimeter wall. I refused the first room and they did graciously provide an alternative. - The pool is very chilly and has limited sun. It's not heated, so beware that Whistler has warmer pools in winter than this one. Everyone comments on this. Christmas day, the hot tub is chilly too, and I'm told it must have been left off. Why not cover at night instead of massive surges in energy to re-heat and risk it being of no use to rate paying guests? But of course, they had time to complain to us by calling our room because we were drying our towels on the patio (to spare the maids a room to do on Christmas day). Can't make this stuff up! Perhaps they'd offer new towels when they called but no, not here. - Service is mediocre, and the staff will let empty cans accumulate around the pool for hours. - Hair in our tortilla and dirty tables at breakfast. The food with hair in it was quickly taken away, but nothing was done about it...pretend it didn't happen, right? - Loud late-night parties at the hotel's top floor disco that's closed to guests (and no response to an email about that fact that kept us awake with an early start the next day). I thought I was paying to rest and relax but they proved me wrong! Funny part is they have a strict silence sign for 10 pm, yet break their own rule when it benefits them. - And limited service...no way to refrigerate anything, or self-serve ice, and there was an attempt to get a mini fridge that mysteriously ended with no communication. If no one from the hotel is going to serve at the pool I should at least be able to fetch my own cold drinks from the room. Accommodations are decent but this is not even close to a luxury hotel if you've ever been to real ones.

Hotel is very clean and best in town! Restaurant is also the best in town. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Excellent service! Every meal was fantastic! Just had Christmas Eve dinner. Five Star meals! Turkey or prime rib dinner. Absolute perfection by highly trained chefs! Highly recommend

This is the second time we went with family to this hotel and it was an amazing experience. People at the reception were very kind and resourceful. Specially Agustin, Rudy and Eder. Rudy help a lot to find a good deal with rents car and even to find a tour for scuba diving. Food at the hotel was very good as well as the service. I totally recommend Hotel La Misión!

We have been going to La Mision for over 10 years. Multiple times a year. We are a family with young kids and also have been with large groups The rooms are perfect, clean and suit our needs! The restaurant and the pool bar have great food breakfast/lunch/dinner and in between. The pool area is perfect for a snack and a cocktail, socializing and relaxing. Perfectly located close to town with a beautiful view! The staff can't be beat, Fili, Rudy, Javier, Paolo are a few of the names I can remember that really go out of their way to make everything that much better! We are already planning our next vacation

The service in the restaurant was incredible. I can’t thank Tulio, Victor and Poli enough for their hospitality. It’s the best restaurant in Loreto hands down. The staff went over and above while we were there. I’ll definitely be back there next time!
