Modern luxury

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 6 days ago

This hotel perfects the modern vibe—beautifully designed rooms and thoughtful touches all around. One standout feature? The automatic night light that turns on when you step out of bed. It’s clever, practical, and a game-changer for us midnight wanderers. The tech-heavy push-button lighting and room controls are impressive, though they might have you reaching for your reading glasses if you’re not used to them. A minor learning curve, but worth it for the sleek setup. One oddity during my stay was the rain. Heavy downpours led to some dripping sounds outside the window frame—a bit distracting but not a dealbreaker. On the plus side, the push-button shower was a highlight—easy to use and wonderfully indulgent. Overall, this hotel delivers on style and comfort I’ll happily return next time I’m in LA!

Largely Luxurious Stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

This hotel still feels new and sleek. The staff aim to provide a responsive and professional experience. I enjoyed the ability to use the text messaging communication forum. I asked for a quiet room and was provided with one which was generally very relaxing and good for sleep quality except for the first night of my stay which was a Saturday night and there was a crazy loud concern of sorts nearby with very loud audience participation. That wasn't the hotel's fault but it impacted my stay considerably. Room was spacious and I didn't have any trouble with the lighting control panel which I was worried about given other reviews stating it was confusing and I'm a bit of a technophobe. It was a little surprising that my bathroom was missing the bottle of shower gel on arrival. My preference is for a room with a soaking tub but there are relatively few at this hotel and they are for the upscale rooms. Spa - I loved having access to the spa but there were a couple of areas of opportunity - upon being shown into the spa changing room, it was in disarray and clearly hadn't been serviced for a while. I was surprised that there was only a sauna as a facility for this size of property, I would have expected at least a steam room in the spa as well. The relaxation room was great though it was odd to me that snacks like apples were served but no paper napkins for wiping juicy fingers etc. I loved the flower teas that were provided, they were different. The tomato and basic cookies were amazing - unfortunately the refreshment area was out of them on the day I went in for my massage, but they did have them the day I went in for my facial which I was grateful for. I enjoyed my massage but didn't react well to the Codage facial products which has never happened to me before. In fact, I'm still suffering irritation a week later which is a bit worrying. The Jose Andres restaurant is nice with indoor and outdoor seating. I had lunch outside one day and it was pleasant, with very good service, though I personally still felt like I was in the concrete jungle of downtown LA rather than a resort environment. I had breakfast indoors every morning and was disappointed one morning to hear a server upset that someone had been seated outside because she didn't think she should be running back and forth inside and out. There were only four or five tables of restaurant diners and the outside area is no great distance from the inside area. I felt bad for the host who seated the guest and got scolded by the server - if you're going to have outdoor seating in California, people are going to want to sit outside. It seemed like pretty crap service to protest this with a close to empty restaurant at breakfast time. Breakfast was quite expensive and I say this as a Southern California resident with fairly high tolerance for bougie level pricing. Drinks at the bar were however in line with market pricing. I had no trouble getting a seat at the bar on a Sunday evening. I was also disappointed to not be able to garner much value from the destination fee. I already find these unethical to charge in the first place but particularly detest when it's unappealing to use any the perks. The $15 dining credit should probably be at least $20 if you insist on having a destination fee, but why even disrespect your guests in this way with a mandatory fee for stuff they didn't elect? Valet/bell team was very friendly and efficient. Overall, I enjoyed my stay but I think the hotel could do a bit more to review whether they're being fair to the guest - especially the destination fee when the area the building is in is not exactly a hot spot. Just feels like price gouging.

Perfect city break!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Truly a wonderful experience! It always feels like you’re not in Downtown LA when you come here. The staff is always very friendly from the valet to concierge to room attendants. My partner and I stay here each time we visit the opera and it’s always a wonderful experience. The restaurants are delicious! A great place to visit for an escape from the city. The property is gorgeous as well.

Nice business hotel in somewhat of a wasteland

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We picked this for a central LA location for touring. It’s kind of in a wasteland and there’s no streetlight or easy restaurants to walk to, right on the border of scuzzy neighborhoods. That being said, the rooms were nice but not sound proof. The bathrooms are set up in that stupid glass box way that controls neither light nor sound nor odor. The lighting system is annoying. The pool was nice and heated but no hot tub. Hotel overrun with show goers. Ridiculously expensive bar. But good service overall. Nice view. Okay for business but not family friendly.

Crowded bar and poor service

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

The hotel is located conveniently for the Walt Disney Concert Hall, and is new and priced low. However, the lobby restaurant and bar was clogged with people from the concert hall/ members of the public and we could not find a seat or get any service. No hostess, so stood around until finally got a table, and drinks arrived 30 min later, and food never did. The room we were given was next to the elevator lobby, despite assurances it would not be. Turned out that noise filtered in not from the elevator lobby, but from the road/ concert further down at the civic center (head banging, rave type music/ road racing sounds). Housekeeping was remiss- we had no toilet paper, and the room reeked when we first entered (ac was off). Service however did arrive promptly when called, eg for laundry bags/ room service menu/ toilet paper. Worst experience was at the spa- my teenage daughter and I went down to use the "complimentary dry sauna", and were told no lockers/ robes available for us and that we should go back to our rooms and come down in our robes! When we said we'd just use towels, the woman rudely directed us to the accessible restroom (no towels there)! When we approached her again and repeated we didn't need robes or lockers, she eventually showed us the way. There were empty lockers for sure, with available robes inside. Incredibly rude. My husband went separately and simply walked into the Men's sauna from the gym with no one aggressing him about getting a robe from the room. Totally upset.
