Large groups of rowdies ruined the experience

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

We have been celebrating our anniversary here since 2011. We have come every year same time. The place is going downhill. They now cater to large groups of drinkers which ruined our experience this year. It used to be a nice romantic getaway but not this year. After coming 14 straight years we are going to have to reconsider staying here again.

Large Groups Take Over Resort

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

Beware and make an inquiry before you book, if they are hosting large groups of young men (200-300), DO NOT GO! We booked a week and upgraded to Altamar in an Ocean Front Plunge Pool Room. What we expected was a nice romantic relaxing week in paradise, as advertised. What we got was the pool and bar being overrun by obnoxious drunk your men, all part of the Vivint Group. During our stay, 3 groups came and went, each time a group left the remaining guests were thrilled only to find out a day later another 200 would arrive and take over. This group is more suited to a Carnival Cruise or a Party Hotel, not the Hilton. Many couples were complaining about the noise, drunks, and rowdy pool activity. The hotel itself was clean and comfortable and the staff was outstanding. I would be giving them 5 stars if we had not had to deal with the obnoxious large groups. Be prepared to spend big $$$ on food and beverage, a glass of wine in the evening $22. We had a Diet Coke, a beer, bottle of water and nachos at the pool $50. The cab prices are set by the cab union and those are sky high too, use your Uber app and save 50% of the cost. We went to San Jose Del Cabo 3 times and had wonderful dinners that were not overpriced, La Lupetia's Tacos and Jazmines - both great options. The breakfast buffet was included with our room and it is the only option for breakfast, $40 PP - you can not order from a menu. I listen while a guest pleaded her case as she only wanted toast - nope. The breakfast buffet was overwhelmed by all the young men in the group. You are not near a store or any other options for food or drink, the neighboring property is all inclusive. I will note that upon check out I detailed our experience to the Altamar Client Services. Once at home we did receive an apology notice with an offer for 2 days complimentary for future. The only way I would go back is if I was 100% assured no large groups. We have been loyal to Hilton since the 80's and were truly disappointed in their decision to host this type of group at this hotel that is advertised as relaxing and tranquil. I follow Hilton Los Cabos on Instagram and FB and at not time did I see them advertise a party atmosphere and that is exactly what we experienced, shame on the management for allowing this type of behavior.

Have stayed here 4 times and will be back again. Ocean Front rooms have a great view and they are one of the only hotels in the corridor that has a swimmable beach. They have 3 pools, 1 infinity with a swim up bar, 1 adult only, and one by the kids center for families. Restaurants are very good. Food/Drinks a bit pricey... Uber to San Jose for shopping/dinner cost us about $20 with tip.

So far ....just average.

We arrived today after a wonderful week in Cerritos. And so far, I am not impressed. We stayed a year ago during low season and it was not nearly as busy. Today the staff seem harried and our rooms are just "ok." WiFi not accessible and no servers on lower deck to be found. Truly hope the week gets better.

Friends Trip

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

Recently stayed at Hilton Los Cabos and booked with the Altamar package. The hotel was great on the communication front ensuring everything was lined out for us before our arrival. Check-in was seamless and the staff was very welcoming. Room was spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. Only downfall of the rooms is that they could use some additional lighting. The hotel hotel grounds are very well manicured and shows that it is taken care of. As far as where the hotel misses the mark. Food and overall service. The food was VERY bland. We ordered some guacamole and chips by the pool and there was little to no flavor. We did get dinner at the Italian restaurant one night and the food was fresh but still lacking a bit of flavor. The best food item that we got at the pool was the tacos. It appeared that the hotel was understaffed around the pool. We were constantly having to flag someone down as there were often times no one was around. Overall it was a good trip. We were there when a tropical storm was coming through and the hotel was great at communicating with everyone about the storm and precautions in place. I think that it's a great hotel but could work on food and service.
