“We’ve tried to evoke the ambiance of a space remembered by a great writer, by a Marguerite Duras or a Noel Coward,” says Eric Verschelden, designer of Villa Maly. Indeed, these guestrooms are memorable: Parquet floors, tropical hardwood furniture and artful décor combine British and French colonial tastes, and the effect is timelessly elegant. Deluxe Rooms occupy the Plumeria villa, which once housed His Royal Highness Khamtan Ounkham, the grandson of a Lao king. It’s an authentic immersion in the history of Luang Prabang, hailed as the best-preserved city in Asia by UNESCO.

Everything was excellent, welcome, very friendly staff, food and atmosphere. A must do. A particular interest in art which is fantastic. Quite nice place very near from the center and the hotel organised for us a day trip to the cave. Fantastic experience. We will certainly come back and recommend this hotel to our friends.

I absolutely loved my time at Villa Maly. The place has this calm, peaceful vibe that makes you feel like you’re worlds away from the hustle and bustle. The garden and pool area are especially beautiful—perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring. My room was cozy and had such a nice mix of traditional and modern touches. It was super clean, and the bed was really comfortable. I also appreciated the little details, like fresh flowers in the room. Breakfast was great, with plenty of options to choose from, including fresh fruit and some local dishes, which was a nice touch. Sitting outside in the morning with all the greenery around was such a relaxing way to start the day. The staff were wonderful—so friendly and helpful. They gave me some great recommendations for things to do in the area and even helped arrange transportation a couple of times. The location is also really convenient. It’s close to the night market, temples, and the river, so I was able to walk everywhere. Overall, it was such a great experience, and I’d definitely stay here again if I come back to Luang Prabang.

We recently enjoyed a delightful stay at Villa Maly right before Christmas this year. The hotel is located in a serene neighborhood of Luang Prabang and is conveniently located close to the city’s central attractions. The rooms provided cozy comfort, though it was a bit chilly to spend much time by the pool. However, we often dined at their restaurant and found the food to be excellent. Overall, our experience at Villa Maly was very satisfying.

This was our first stop on a tour of south east Asia and it did not disappoint. We had room 25 with a lovely view over the pool. Lovely old world decor with French influences. Staff were all extremely friendly and the service was perfect. It’s a short walk to the centre of town but if you don’t fancy that there is an electric courtesy buggy on offer. We only had breakfast while we stayed but that was good with enough choice. This hotel was a great start to our tour and we would highly recommend it.
