Fine Hotel

Excellent hotel. Breakfast was great. Housekeeping was perfect. The front desk was always helpful. The view from the water facing rooms is spectacular, and we had a terrace where it was wonderful to sit outside and enjoy a drink, even in the cold weather. The room was quiet and unlike other Swiss 5 star hotels, you could cool the room below 20C if you prefer cooler temperature for sleeping. They arranged an honest taxi to take us to the train station at a very fair price. The only issue is the excessive complexity of the light and other systems. At one point, the control panel wasn't working and we had to tap it repeatedly to change the temperature. Another time it was difficult to turn off all the lights, some kept going on and off. Eventually it worked. These are minor details.

Nice hotel off the beaten path

We stayed here two nights as part of a tour. Many of our group got the lake view while we got the parking lot/street. The rooms were well appointed, good space, and updated. We did find all the electronic switches confusing and no instructions. Only one restaurant was open and the food and generally the service was very good. A great place to have a drink and look out on the lake. Not cheap by any means, and it is located a ways off from the downtown area, where you walk 20 minutes or take a bus. The breakfast was very good, a great selection of items and you can order off a menu.

Beautiful city view from our window

I can't say enough about the awesome location and the amenities in the room. I don't think I ever stayed in a hotel with a separate room for the sink, another for the toilet and yet another for the shower - all adjoining, and incredibly large. It felt luxurious! In the evening it was an easy stroll along the promenade or you could take the bus - the stop was right outside the hotel. Very convenient. We traveled as part of a pre-cruise tour group. There was, however, an issue with the breakfast process - not with the food, but rather with the organization. You arrive at the breakfast room, give your room number to the host, who then takes you to a table. Normally this isn't an issue unless you have many people in a group standing in a queue. It takes far too much time to check off the first couple, then go to the table, then come back, and so on......Why not have several hosts to accommodate larger groups, especially when the hotel knows the group is leaving that morning? The coffee - again, this could be due to the number of people at the dining room at the time, but on the first day it took about 10 minutes to get coffee after the waiter took our order. It is Cafe Americano (we prefer stronger) so on day 2 we asked for the coffee accompanied by a double shot of espresso. 35 minutes later and after asking multiple waiters, our coffee arrived. Each waiter seemed surprised that our coffee had not yet arrived as they could see on their tablets that it had been ordered. There is no coffee machine where someone could simply get up and get their own cup. Clearly we would have done that. I think on this particular moment the waitstaff was overwhelmed by the number of people eating breakfast at the same time. Our group was heading out and perhaps there were other groups doing the same? Aside from the long wait time at breakfast, we did enjoy our stay.

Great Location, Great Service

Had such an incredible stay at the Mandarin Oriental Lucerne! The front desk was very kind and provided us with a beautiful upgrade in honor of my birthday/wedding anniversary. We even had champagne, cake, and a personalized card waiting for us when we arrived to our room. During turn down service, they placed flower petals on our bed. The room was spacious and appeared to be recently renovated. The bed was so large and comfortable. The bathroom had an incredible shower and was filled with diptyque and dyson products. Our package included breakfast, which was very delicious. All the staff were very kind. While we didn't get to enjoy the spa, we found the gym had all the necessary equipment. The location also could not be beat. All in all, I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to staying there again someday!

Worth the extra $$

Everything about this hotel was exceptional which one would expect given the price of rooms. From the hands on welcoming with our car and luggage to the awesome service from the staff differentiated this hotel from many other luxury hotels we have stayed at. We were upgraded to a beautiful suite (not sure what our original one would have looked like). Bed very comfortable and bathroom large and had everything you would need. The breakfast was by far one of the best I've ever experienced throughout Europe. We didn't eat in the "fancy" restaurant, but at the bar/restaurant and the food was very good with enough choices too. The hotel is expensive as most of Switzerland is, but it delivered on all levels. The view was beautiful in spite of the rainy weather. Would definitely come back.
