Casa Velha do Palheiro

A beautiful location, wonderful service - food worth dying for. We stayed 10 days with a group - we played golf everyday (is there a more beautiful golf course in this universe?), enjoyed good meals at the clubhouse (the view!!!) and went home to relax and prepare for the evening feast. Such a treat to visit the spa after difficult day at the golf course (due to my lack of skills as a golfer), or just to relax in my wonderful room... or visit the garden... And wait for the highligt of the day: The evening meal. Always beautiful, always good, always served with a smile.

Great 5 star accomodation. Old chique, and within 15 minutes of airport and Funchal. Wonderful gardens, and we love a 5 star hotel with character and history, that was not built for hundreds of guests in a 10 floor building.

The staff were second to non in making customers feel special and well provided for. One small thing noticed and to report was a small plumbing issue in the WC in my room (I gather my friend who stayed in another room experienced that as well): the water kept running. Else it was an amazing place.

Our stay at Casa Velha do Palheiro was simply unforgettable. The elegance of the setting, the warmth of the staff, and the exquisite attention to detail made for a truly exceptional experience. From the refined rooms to the outstanding local cuisine at Oxalis, everything reflected the spirit of Relais & Châteaux. A perfect blend of charm, comfort, and authenticity, we’ll certainly be back.

An incredible property staffed with a team focused on providing exceptional customer service. You will be spoiled and well looked after. Direct access to the Palheiro Garden next door was an added bonus. Roam the gardens early in the morning just after breakfast. You won’t regret it.
