Located in the privileged Habsburg district next to The Royal Palace, The Opera House and The Cathedral, Gran Melia Palacio de los Duques is a luxury urban resort offering 160 spacious rooms and 20 luxurious suites behind a magnificent Elizabethan façade. This beautiful hotel, completely inspired on Velazquez’s master pieces is the former Palace of the Dukes of Ega and Villahermosa. In the artistic and cultural heart of Madrid, a short walk from some of the most important monuments in the city, such as the Royal Palace, the Teatro Real and the Almudena Cathedral, behind its magnificent façade the Palacio de los Duques Gran Meliá combines vintage splendour with a delicate contemporary sensibility. More than just a luxury hotel, the Palacio de los Duques Gran Meliá is a canvas that inspired a most extraordinary way of life.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We had gone for our 40th wedding anniversary and our sons sent flowers, cava and chocolates to the room and they were all top quality. We couldn’t manage all the cava but the cleaning staff were great at tidying it up and leaving fresh glasses. The concierge and reception staff were extremely helpful and helped us organise our trip to El Escorial. The hotel is expensive but you get a great experience. We would definitley stay there again if we were returning to Madrid.

From the moment you walk through the door here at the Palacio it just has the WOW factor Greeted with a glass of fizz great start The decor is just incrediable Rooms spacious Amazing bed Stunning bathroom and everything you need from hairdryer to umbrella you won’t want for anything But what stood out for us was the exceptional staff at the hotel All very highly trained and always happy and smiling and that goes such a long way as the hospitality industry is tough Julia from main bar area was just so so sweet and Dennis on front door great fun Dennis the menace we called him The weather was awful rain rain rain but it did not ruin our trip the hotel has the best location and we are already planning our next trip

Amazing building, rooms, and service. We had a red level, peaceful, large room where housekeeping and cleaning were absolutely amazing. Couldn't find better. The free tapas area was very nice and staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

Everything about this hotel is exceptional from the historic grounds dating back centuries (one can ask for a tour of the grounds), to the decor in homage of Velasquez and the royalty that once lived in palace, to the private Red Lounge area (a must when booking) that is connected to their garden and serves delicious breakfast and tapas throughout the day consisting of a vast spread with champagne/full bar, the quiet, superbly clean and comfortable rooms, a full gym, two onsite restaurants serving delicious food, free shuttle to center city, and most of all, the kind of service that is as good or better than most other 5 star hotels such as the Four Seasons and Ritz Carlton. The location is also fabulous - on a quiet street not far from the Grand Via with all its shopping, the Callo Metro stop and not too far from Plaza Espana. This hotel is just a gem and I will never look to stay elsewhere during my future trips to Madrid.

My family (two adults, three teenagers) stayed in a couple of the Red Level rooms last week. This hotel was fabulous. The building is gorgeous and updated, and everyone was extremely friendly and accommodating. It has everything you would want from a five star hotel. The food at the restaurant on site (Jardin de los Duques) was some of the best we had when we were in Madrid. We all enjoyed the complementary tapas and drinks in the Red Level lounge (on the 1st floor with very good garden views) every day after our travels. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone going to Madrid.
