Reviews for Petit Palace Savoy Alfonso XII

Special hotel, wonderful city.

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

My wife and I have not even finished our two week stay at the Petit Palace Alfonso but I did not want to wait to post our glowing review. This is our first visit to Madrid, but we have visited quite a few places worldwide. We are from the Washington, DC area, have stayed at many hotels throughout the world, and would easily recommend this wonderful hotel to anyone. You cannot beat the location across the street from the wonderful Retiro Park, which itself is worth a morning or two for its botanical and historic interest, and just a short walk to some of the finest museums in Madrid. The hotel building is antique, which means high ceilings, working balconies (where do you see that in major cities?!), and fewer amenities that you might see in more modern buildings (no gym, for instance). But, who cares? The staff here are wonderful, kind and friendly. I must mention in particular Laura at the front desk, and Tonie at the breakfast restaurant, but everyone has been exceptionally kind and helpful, even to someone like me who speaks no Spanish. Our room overlooks the park and is very comfortable. The breakfast is enormous, fresh fruits, wide array of breads, eggs served to order, great coffee, you simply can’t find a better breakfast anywhere on Earth. But mainly you must come here to experience the warm hospitality that everyone here has extended to us, they really treat you like family, I can’t thank them enough. So please, do yourself a favor, come to Madrid, a wonderful city, and stay at the Petit Palace Savoy Alfonso, you will be very glad that you did!

Stayed twice in the Family Rooms (four people). Excellent accommodation and location.

We stayed here twice on our 11-day trip to Spain, at the beginning and at the end. Everything was excellent. We stayed in the family room, which was huge and had a king size bed plus a set of bunk beds. At the beginning of the trip we had the family room on the first floor, which was ready for us when we arrived after our transatlantic flight at 10am. It was awesome to check in early and take a good nap in a good bed before beginning our Madrid sightseeing, and we're so grateful for the hotel staff who made this possible! I was concerned about noise since we were close to the street, and we did hear a little bit of street noise while we were awake, as well as a little bit of noise from people gathered in the lobby at the bottom of the stairs, but it got quiet at bedtime and I heard nothing at night (and I am a very light sleeper). The first floor family room was one huge room with two bathrooms (one with a sink and toilet, the other with a sink and shower). At the end of the trip we stayed on the fifth floor family room, which was quieter because it was higher above the street (but again, the first floor room was totally fine at night for sleeping.) The fifth floor room had a wall and a door to divide the king bed room from the area with the bunk beds which was nice, but it only had one bathroom with the sink, shower and toilet all in the same room. I'd definitely stay here again, and would choose the first floor room due to the convenience of two separate bathroom areas. Other things of note: The breakfast here was huge and delicious, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was spotless, they left us a nice Christmas gift on Christmas Eve, the lady serving drinks at the bar was really nice, and it was all-around a great stay. Excellent location to walk to many sites in Madrid, and a very easy walk to the train station as well. We loved both of our stays. Thank you!

Decent place with excellent breakfast

This is a decent hotel for family or business stays. The rooms are big with high ceilings and some charm. The decoration was all in fitness with a mix of modern and old. And what a breakfast! All you can imagine beautifully presented to inspire your morning. Some attention should be given to cleanliness in the common areas and some of the furniture was a bit tacky. My room gave onto the boulevard which was quite noisy even with the windows closed

Amazing stay, amazing view, amazing food!

Wonderful hotel with a view overlooking the Retiro park. The Room was nice and spacious for Madrid. The queen bed was very comfortable and the decor was pleasant. The bathroom was spectacular with a waterfall shower. The staff are some of the brightest people I've had in a hotel. Always accommodating and very patient with my horrible Spanish! The manager, Luis, was spectacular! And finally, the included breakfast was fantastic! It had a plethora of options to choose from and they offered eggs and omelets made to order. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. Next time we are in Madrid we are looking forward to staying here again!

One of the best places we’ve stayed.

Such a lovely place in a quiet but central location. We stayed in a junior suite, which was very spacious, and included a separate bedroom, a living room with a sleeping area with bunk beds, and a beautiful wrap around glassed in balcony with views of Retiro park. Breakfast was fantastic, everything you could want. The woman who manages breakfast service was especially helpful. But everyone there was great.
